14 Indian athletes to participate in World Athletics Relays 2025
This year's event at the Guangdong Olympic Stadium will include six relay categories: men's 4x400m, men's 4x100m, women's 4x400m, and women's 4x100m, as well as mixed relays for both 4x400m and 4x100m.
This will be the seventh edition of the World Athletics Relays, and it will be the first time the event will be held in China.
For the first time, the mixed 4x100m relay will be featured at the World Relays. Additionally, India will only participate in the men's and mixed 4x400m races. Guangzhou 25 also serves as a qualifying event for the World Athletics Championships 2025, which is set to occur in Tokyo this September.
A total of 730 competitors from 43 different nations will take part in the World Relays. Each country can submit one team for each event, with a limit of eight athletes per team. The first 14 teams in each category, excluding the mixed 4x100m, will secure automatic spots for the Tokyo 25 World Championships, where 16 teams will compete in each relay.
The final two slots will be assigned according to the most impressive results achieved throughout the qualification phase, which occurred from February 25, 2024, to August 24, 2025. The Indian men's 4x400m team will be led by the top five competitors from the Federation Cup 2025 held in Kochi: TK Vishal, Jay Kumar, TS Manu, Dharamveer Choudhary, and Rince Joseph.

Jasprit Bumrah might be the world's best bowler in the longest format of the game but his struggles with workload in the ongoing Test series against England could possibly force him to rethink about his career in whites, felt former cricketer Mohammed Kaif. Bumrah, who took five-wicket hauls in the first and third Tests against England - both in a losing cause - looked a pale shadow in the ongoing fourth Test in Manchester. He just took the lone wicket of Jamie Smith as England are on course for a huge first innings lead against India. In a video posted on social media, Kaif claimed that the Indian team might need to prepare themselves without Bumrah at least in Tests going forward. In fact, prior to the start of the series, India head coach Gautam Gambhir confirmed that he Bumrah will play three games. "I don't think you will see Jasprit Bumrah in the upcoming Tests, and he might retire. He is struggling, and there is a noticeable drop in pace. He is an honest person. If he feels he is not giving his 100 per cent for the country, win matches for his country or take wickets, it is my gut feeling that he will himself refuse," Kaif said. One of the major highlights of Bumrah's struggles in Manchester has been his drastic drop in pace. The 31-year-old, dropped from 140kph to the range of 130-135 in the fourth Test. But bowling at 125 to 130 kph, and the wicket he got, the wicketkeeper had to dive forward; fit Bumrah's catch carried to a good height, irrespective of Joe Root or Ben Stokes. He is a player who can get anybody out according to his will. I feel passion is there, but he has lost his body and fitness," added Kaif. "His body is not supporting him. His inability to take wickets in this Test is a clear indicator that he will face issues in future Test matches. Maybe he might not play in future. Virat, Rohit and Ashwin have left. Maybe the time is coming when India will play without Bumrah. I hope my predictions are wrong," he concluded.

Diksha lone Indian to make cut in Womens Scottish Open
Agency: North Ayrshire (Scotland), Jul 26 (PTI) Diksha Dagar was the lone Indian to make the cut at the 2025 ISPS HANDA Women's Scottish Open golf tournament and was placed T-59 here. With rounds of 69-76, Diksha was 1-over at the Par-72 course as 71 players made the cut. The leader is England's Lottie Woad, who is making her pro debut. She added a 65 to her first round 67 and is now 12-under. Diksha, the 24-year-old two-time winner on the Ladies European Tour, who shot 3-under 69 in the first round, seemed to be on her way out as she was in danger at six-over through 16 holes in the second round and 3-over for the tournament. As she has done many times before, Diksha rallied from the precarious position to birdie the last two holes and made the weekend on the cut line, which fell at 1-over.
