Where We Are Going Today: ‘Fusion' in Alkhobar
Tucked away inside Le Meridien in Alkhobar, Fusion is an upscale dining experience that blends refined hospitality with a well-curated menu. We kicked things off with the bread basket: A warm selection of freshly baked rolls, each one slightly crisp on the outside and fluffy within. The rolls were served with olive oil, balsamic vinegar, sun-dried tomato paste, and a side of butter — simple, elegant, and full of flavor. Then came the surprise star of the night: the seafood soup. With a perfectly balanced consistency and deeply rich flavor, it was the kind of dish that makes you rethink your stance on seafood altogether. I do not usually go for fish-heavy starters, but I would return to Fusion for this soup alone. Next up was the sushi platter. It was an elaborate, artful presentation that arrived in a wooden boat overflowing with color and texture. From the crispness of the tempura rolls to the melt-in-your-mouth sashimi, every bite was fresh with zero fishy aftertaste. The drawback? The lighting does not do the presentation justice, and I wish the establishment had an Instagram account or at least a more organized menu for browsing. For mains we opted for the grilled salmon and steak. Both were tender, flavorful, and plated with precision. Dessert sealed the deal. We went for a classic tiramisu and a mini apple pie, with espresso. It felt like the perfect end to a luxurious yet unpretentious meal. Fusion might be understated in terms of its online presence, but do not let that fool you. The experience is top-tier. This is a place that lets the food and service speak for themselves.

Saudi Arabia welcomes 1.2 million Umrah pilgrims
JEDDAH: Saudi Arabia's Ministry of Hajj and Umrah reported that more than 1.2 million pilgrims have arrived in the Kingdom to perform Umrah since the season launched. The faithful have traveled from 109 countries worldwide, reflecting surging international interest and the Kingdom's enhanced service capabilities for religious visitors. Ministry data shows a significant 30 percent jump in Umrah visa holders entering Saudi Arabia this year compared to the same period last year. Visa issuances also climbed 27 percent, while more than 4,200 partnership agreements were executed between domestic Umrah service providers and international agents, bolstering the Kingdom's capacity to accommodate the influx of pilgrims. The Umrah season was launched with digital visa processing handled through the government's Nusuk platform. The scheme represents the latest advancement in Saudi Arabia's efforts to streamline religious tourism as part of Vision 2030, the Kingdom's comprehensive modernization blueprint. Pilgrims have been able to secure Umrah permits directly through the Nusuk mobile application, which functions as a centralized digital gateway for pilgrim services. The platform offers streamlined booking and permit processing, complemented by additional digital tools designed to improve the overall pilgrimage experience.

Almadinah Book Fair Showcases Saudi Literary Talent Through Dedicated Authors' Pavilion
The fourth edition of the Almadinah Book Fair, organized by the Literature, Publishing, and Translation Commission, is shining a spotlight on homegrown literary talent through a special section devoted entirely to Saudi authors. This year's fair features 103 self-published Saudi writers, each presenting their distinctive works in a supportive and professionally curated setting. Designed to nurture creativity and celebrate cultural expression, the section highlights the vibrancy and depth of the Kingdom's literary scene. A flagship initiative of the commission, the authors' pavilion is centrally located within the fair and offered free of charge to participants. In addition to providing the space, the commission actively supports authors by handling marketing and sales logistics, ensuring that all proceeds go directly to the writers. The works on display span diverse genres—from novels and poetry to short stories—capturing the richness of Saudi voices and narratives. By offering a platform for independent authors often overlooked by mainstream publishers, the section strengthens the national publishing ecosystem and amplifies the presence of emerging literary voices. Running daily from 2:00 p.m. to midnight, Almadinah Book Fair offers a dynamic cultural experience, further establishing Madinah as a vital center on the Kingdom's cultural events calendar.
