
Dubai to host major gymnastics championship with 750 athletes
The championship, taking place at the Stamina11 Center in Dubai Studio City, will feature more than 750 athletes representing over 16 specialised academies, along with participating clubs from Kuwait, Qatar, and Kenya, reflecting the regional and international interest in this prestigious sporting event.
The championship will be graced by Victoria Listunova, gold medalist at the Tokyo 2020 Olympics and three-time European Games champion. Listunova will be the guest of honour at the event which will also be attended by Sherine El-Zeiny, an Egyptian artistic gymnast who has qualified for the Olympic Games three times.

The championship will commence on Friday, May 23, with an opening ceremony at 3 pm, during which Listunova will present a demonstration performance, along with a performance by El-Zeiny and a welcome show organised by the young athletic children.
The championship features diverse age groups of participants, including athletes between 5 and 15 years of age, providing an opportunity to discover promising talents across various age groups and refine their skills in this sport, which is gaining increasing interest in the UAE and the region.

Aligned with the Year of Community campaign, the Dubai Social Agenda 33, and Dubai Quality of Life Strategy 33, the initiative aims to foster a healthier, more active lifestyle by offering residents and visitors a safe and climate-controlled environment ideal for the summer months. The Dubai Mallathon is being organised across nine of the city's most prominent malls, namely Dubai Mall, Dubai Hills Mall, Mall of the Emirates, City Centre Deira, City Centre Mirdif, Dubai Marina Mall, The Springs Souk, Dubai Festival City, and Festival Plaza. Each location will feature safe, fully equipped indoor tracks, adding up to more than 10 kilometres. These facilities will be readily available to residents and visitors from 7 to 10 am throughout August. Various activities held as part of the Mallathon will engage the public daily across participating malls, offering both residents and visitors a remarkable opportunity to integrate fitness pursuits into their daily routines. A dynamic calendar of events, including sports challenges and community competitions for people of all ages and interests, is slated for the weekends as well. More than 40 iPhones, 10 tablets, shopping vouchers, gift cards, and other exciting prizes will be distributed during weekend events in a festive atmosphere designed to inspire wider public engagement and community cohesion. A holistic vision The Ministry of Defence affirmed its commitment to supporting national initiatives that promote public health and improve quality of life across Dubai and the UAE. The Dubai Mallathon stands out for its inclusive, community-driven approach. Sponsored by the Ministry of Defence and organised in collaboration with the Dubai Sports Council, the event is supported by a broad network of public and private partners. Wellness services are provided by Mai Dubai, the UAE Sports For All Federation, Al Tadawi Speciality Hospital, and the Dubai Cooperative Society, while Uber and Careem offer exclusive discounts for attendees commuting during the event hours. Free health check-ups The Mallathon also offers free health check-ups, nutritional consultations, and access to healthy food options provided by select restaurants and retail outlets, reinforcing the initiative's wellness-first vision. Parallel initiative As part of the Mallathon, another initiative titled 'Walking for Better Health' will be hosted by the Community Development Authority (CDA) in collaboration with the participating malls. This initiative will encourage senior citizens and residents to stay physically active in a secure, engaging space tailored to their needs. Hamdan bin Mohammed witnesses display of skills of National Service Programme recruits
His Highness Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai, Deputy Prime Minister, and Minister of Defence, today witnessed a series of displays that showcased the skills of the 22nd cohort of the National Service Programme for 2024-2025. The event was held at the Seih Hafeer training centre, in the presence of Major General Sheikh Ahmed bin Tahnoun bin Mohammed Al Nahyan, Deputy Chief of Staff of the Armed Forces, several senior officers of the Ministry of Defence, and families of the recruits. His Highness praised the recruits' discipline and readiness, noting that the military skills they have acquired prepare them to defend the nation with loyalty and dedication. He also commended the efforts of the National Service Programme's leadership in advancing the UAE's vision through high-level training and qualification. Inaugural Abu Dhabi World Grappling Championship gets underway in Al Ain
The inaugural Abu Dhabi World Grappling Championship 2025 will officially begin on Friday, August 1, at ADNEC Centre Al Ain. Organised by International Vision Sports Management (IVSM), the three-day event will run until August 3 and is expected to bring together hundreds of athletes from more than 20 countries to the Al Ain Region, Abu Dhabi. This initiative is held in partnership with the Department of Culture and Tourism – Abu Dhabi (DCT) and under the banner of Abu Dhabi Jiu-Jitsu Pro (AJP). The official press conference to announce the completion of preparations was held Thursday at ADNEC Centre Al Ain and was attended Saeed Al Dhaheri, Destination Management Department Director at the Department of Culture and Tourism – Abu Dhabi and Tareq Al Bahri, General Manager of International Vision Sports Management. Several top athletes participating in the event, including Fellipe Andrew (Brazil), Leticia Cardozo (Brazil), Tamerlan Eslemesov (Russia), Liisi Vaht (Estonia), Salem Al Qubaisi (UAE), and Pouya Rahmani (Iran) were also present. Tareq Al Bahri, General Manager of IVSM, said the organising team is fully prepared to deliver a seamless and high-calibre experience for both athletes and fans. He added that the strong international turnout reflects the sport's rapid global growth and Abu Dhabi's rising profile as a destination for combat sports. The competition will begin with professional and 35+ category matches through to the semi-final stage on the opening day. The youth and amateur divisions will take place on the second day, while the final day will feature third-place playoffs and championship finals for the professional categories. Winners will receive 2,000 AJP ranking points and substantial cash prizes, under AJP Tour regulations.
