Brandi Carlile poses with Irn-Bru, Scotch whisky and Saltire at Glasgow gig
Carlile, 44, is best known for her hit song, The Story, and has collaborated with artists including Hozier, Miley Cyrus and Alicia Keys.
She is currently on her "Lost Time Tour" across the UK, and played at the Glasgow Royal Concert Hall on Thursday night.
On her Instagram, she shared an image of her with a Saltire flag, Slatire heart pin badge in her mouth, a bottle of Ardbeg whisky and Scotland's other national drink, with the caption: "FREEDOM!".
Former first minister Nicola Sturgeon reshared the image, along with another showing Carlile holding a Saltire on stage, and wrote: "Love @brandicarlile (even more so now [laughing emoji]). Gutted not to see her in Glasgow last night.
Carlile, an 11-time Grammy Award-winning artist, was the most nominated woman at the 61st Annual Grammy Awards in 2019, receiving six nominations, including nominations for Album of the Year, Record of the Year and Song of the Year.
She recently teamed up with Sir Elton John - famous for hit songs such as Rocket Man, Tiny Dancer, and I'm Still Standing - to write and record a joint album titled Who Believes in Angels? which was released on April 4.
Carlile taught herself to play piano after being introduced to the music of John as a teenager. Last week, he was in the audience as she performed at London's Royal Albert Hall.

The two also had a sit-down conversation with Schitt's Creek star Dan Levy in March, and discussed their lives and music careers.
Announcing the tour, she said: "My pre-adolescent Elton discovery was a gateway drug to Queen, The Beatles, U2, Kate Bush, George Michael, Sinéad O'Connor, David Bowie, Radiohead and I imagined a moody, and mysterious utopia of complicated musical bliss.
"I had visions of myself on stage Royal Albert Hall. I dreamed it was me standing on the stage at Live Aid, clutching a half mic stand, and singing Radio Gaga instead of Freddie. When I finally made it over, I was in my 20s, and it was everything I knew it would be. It wasn't easy!
"I've been working my whole life, and touring the UK and Europe as a baby band is not for the faint of heart. Nevertheless, I did THE zebra crossing; drank a real Guinness; had my first Ardbeg, and I experienced the European countryside to me.
"I met my wife in London & got married at Chelsea Town Hall, and I now cross the Atlantic more than I could have ever hoped for - but not nearly enough to play my music, and bring my art home to the place where it really came from."

Spirit Mixer produces 25-1 Northumberland Plate surprise
Spirit Mixer made it third time lucky in the JenningsBet Northumberland Plate at Newcastle. A close second to top-class stayer Trueshan in 2023, Andrew Balding's charge could finish only ninth 12 months ago and went off at 25-1 on this latest visit to Gosforth Park for a race affectionately known as the 'Pitmen's Derby'. Bred in the purple as a son of Frankel and owner Jeff Smith's Group One-winning mare Arabian Queen, Spirit Mixer was delivered with his challenge in the home straight and knuckled down to get the better Dancing In Paris by a neck under a delighted Rob Hornby, who travelled north for a solitary ride. 'He was never a 25-1 shot in my head. I've won big races on him before and he was coming in off the back of a really good run at Goodwood,' said the jockey. 'I could have gone to Windsor and had four or five rides, but I wanted to come and ride him. He's a horse that's done no harm to me and it's fantastic to get that sort of reward today. 'There's a great crowd here today – I don't usually make the trek up north this far! I put it in my Sat Nav and it's just over five hours to get home, so this will make it a bit easier.' He added: 'He's such a cool horse, he's seven years old now and a beautifully-bred homebred of Mr Smith's. He's just thriving and really enjoying his racing at his tender age. 'The race went pretty smooth. I thought I was jostling for the lead early enough, but he got into a battle and outstayed them then inside the last furlong. 'It's important to be riding winners on Saturdays in these big races and I've been fortunate enough to win a July Cup in these colours (on Alcohol Free), they mean a great deal to me, as does riding winners for Kingsclere. 'What a joy he is to own and to train and to ride.'

Glastonbury map tool shows festival size against Powys towns
A viral map shows the size of the Glastonbury festival compared to Powys towns – and it dwarfs them all. Social media users have been sharing screenshots of the online Glastonbury Map Overlay tool showing the scale of the iconic music festival in comparison to towns and cities across the UK. The map allows you to move a red patch shaped like Worthy Farm anywhere on the map, and when you put it over your hometown can give non-festival-goers a taste of just how expansive the event is. When overlaid on Welshpool, it shows how the festival's site, estimated to be between 900 and 1,100 acres, dwarfs the town. The same can be said for Newtown, which would cross the bypass, while Builth Wells is swamped by the map, with the site stretching into neighbouring Llanwrtyd Wells. Social media users have been sharing screenshots of how the map looks where they live The festival opened on Wednesday and continues this weekend. More than 200,000 people are expected to descend on the fields of Worthy Farm in Pilton, Somerset with ticket-holders advised to prepare for mainly warm weather. Headliners this year include British rock/pop band The 1975, veteran singer Neil Young and his band the Chrome Hearts, and US pop star Olivia Rodrigo. Performing in the coveted Sunday tea-time legends slot this year is Sir Rod Stewart, who previously said he will be joined by his former Faces band member Ronnie Wood, as well as some other guests. Other performers include Irish singer CMAT, Prada singer Raye, US musician Brandi Carlile, Nile Rodgers and Chic, hip-hop star Loyle Carner, US pop star Gracie Abrams, indie outfit Wet Leg, Mercury Prize-winning jazz quintet Ezra Collective, US rapper Denzel Curry, and rising star Lola Young. The line-up also features a number of acts listed as TBA, as well as a mysterious act called Patchwork, who will take to the Pyramid Stage on Saturday.
