BJP refutes reports on plan of using Col Sofiya Qureshi, Wg Cdr Vyomika Singh as campaign faces: ‘Fake news'
The clarification came after a media report claimed that Col Qureshi and Wing Commander Singh, who led India's press briefings on Operation Sindoor, will be the faces of an ambitious women-centric campaign to be rolled out by the BJP on June 9, the completion of 11 years of the Modi government.
'This is fake news,' BJP IT department head Amit Malviya wrote on X. 'The BJP has no plans to use either Col Sofiya Qureshi or Wing Commander Vyomika Singh as campaign faces,' he asserted.
Malviya further said that comments made by BJP Minority Morcha president Jamal Siddiqui in the media report have been misconstrued.

'The comments made by BJP Minority Morcha president Jamal Siddiqui have been misconstrued. He simply made a limited point about highlighting Col Qureshi as an example of an empowered Muslim woman within the community,' Malviya said.
Colonel Qureshi and IAF Wing Commander Vyomika Singh held a media briefing during India's cross-border strikes under Operation Sindoor, along with foreign secretary Vikram Misri.

Earlier this week, the family of Colonel Sofiya Qureshi were among the many that attended Prime Minister Narendra Modi's roadshow in Vadodara, Gujarat.
Taj Mohammad and Halima Qureshi, Colonel Qureshi's parents, were among the crowd at the Vadodara roadshow. Speaking to news agency PTI, Mohammed praised his daughter, Colonel Qureshi and stated that she has now been elevated to the "daughter of the nation."
"It felt great (roadshow of PM Modi). We are proud that PM Modi met us. Sofiya Qureshi is the daughter of the country, she only did her duty,' he said.
Furthermore, her mother, Halima Qureshi, praised Operation Sindoor for taking "revenge of our sisters' sindoor"
Shyna Sunsara, Colonel Qureshi's twin sister was also at the roadshow. ". When your sister does something for the country, it inspires not only me but others as well. She is no longer just my sister but the country's sister as well," she was quoted as saying by news agency ANI.

The Centre convened an all-party meeting on Sunday, a day ahead of the beginning of Parliament's monsoon session, the first session of the House since the Pahalgam massacre in April. Besides the terrorist attack, the ceasefire announcement between India and Pakistan, and the special intensive revision (SIR) of electoral rolls in Bihar are also expected to dominate proceedings. Representatives from the government and the Opposition discussed the agenda for the session, and the government said that it had noted down points raised by the Opposition. Members from the Opposition INDIA bloc said they hoped that Prime Minister Narendra Modi would address the nation on important issues from Parliament. Sources told The Indian Express that while the Centre accepted the Opposition's demand to hold a debate on Operation Sindoor, it was yet to take a call regarding a debate on the SIR in poll-bound Bihar. Sunday's meeting was attended by Rajya Sabha Leader of the House J P Nadda, Union Minister for Parliamentary Affairs Kiren Rijiju, and Parliamentary Affairs Ministers of State Arjun Ram Meghwal and L Murugan. The Opposition was represented by Congress Deputy Leader in Lok Sabha Gaurav Gogoi, the Congress's Jairam Ramesh, Samajwadi Party's Ram Gopal Yadav, CPM MP John Brittas, BJD's Sasmit Patra, NCP (SP)'s Supriya Sule, JMM's Sarfraz Ahmad, and others. NDA ally TDP was represented by Lavu Sri Krishna Devarayalu. Rijiju said after the meeting, 'The NDA, UPA (INDIA bloc) and those in between have presented their opinions. Kabini dam restoration work to be taken up at a cost of ₹32.25 crore: Karnataka CM Siddaramaiah
Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah said the State Government will soon take up work on restoration of Kabini dam at a cost of ₹32.25 crore. Speaking to reporters after offering bagina to Kabini reservoir on Sunday (July 20, 2025), Mr. Siddaramaiah said the State Cabinet meeting held recently at MM Hills had approved the restoration project for the dam, which is about 51 years old. Outflow from Kabini to be increased, flood warning issued The construction of Kabini reservoir began in 1959 and was completed in 1974. As 51 years had elapsed since its construction was completed, the Government had decided to take up work on its restoration and strengthening. He, however, hastened to clarify that the Government's restoration work does not mean that the dam had become weak. It may be mentioned here that concerns had been expressed in certain quarters about the minor cracks and cavities in the dam structure. But, Cauvery Neeravari Nigam Limited (CNNL) had ruled out any immediate threat to the dam. 'The Government will also take up work on modernisation of Taraka canal system,' he added. 'The Kabini, which takes birth in Kerala, and joins Cauvery at T. Narsipura, is a tributary of Cauvery. The Kabini river irrigates 1,08,000 acres of land,' he said. Mr. Siddaramaiah said the Government was also planning to build a garden on the lines of Brindavan Gardens at KRS reservoir. To a question, the Chief Minister said more than the stipulated quantity of water was flowing to Tamil Nadu and regretted that the Centre was not giving permission to the State to build a balancing reservoir at Mekedatu. When his attention was drawn to BJP's suggestion that the Congress Government should convince its INDIA ally DMK, which is the ruling party in neighbouring Tamil Nadu, Mr. Siddaramaiah shot back and asked why the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leaders was not able to persuade their party's leaders in BJP-ruled Goa to permit the Mahadayi project in Karnataka, which is long pending. However, he said the State Government was ready for Mekedatu project if the Centre gives permission for the same. Meanwhile, Deputy Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar, who also holds the Water Resources portfolio, said the State Government had sent its technical teams to all dams to study their safety after a crest gate at Tungabhadra dam was washed away about a year back. The Government will take up any work that is necessary for the safety of dams on a priority basis while adding that the restoration work of Kabini dam will also be taken up. Responding to a request from HD Kote MLA Anil Chikkamadu, the State Government was considering a proposal to take up project to develop a garden at Kabini dam under public private partnership (PPP) model. When asked about the demand for celebrating Kabini Utsav, Mr. Shivakumar said he will discuss the matter with the Minister in charge of Mysuru district H.C. Mahadevappa and take a decision. He said, 'The Government had already planned to hold a Cauvery Arathi at KRS reservoir and added that the project will not only boost tourism, but also generate employment. However, he said the Government's first priority was safety of the dams.' Mr. Mahadevappa, MLAs Anil Chikkamadu, Harish Gowda, A.R. Krishnamurthy and Darshan Dhruvanarayan and MLC D. 'Modi government ready to discuss Op Sindoor, Trump's remarks': Union Minister Rijiju says before Parliament monsoon session start
Parliament- File image New Delhi: Government on Sunday held an all party meeting ahead of the commencement of the Monsoon Session of Parliament that begins tomorrow with Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju urging both ruling and opposition sides to coordinate to ensure smooth functioning of the House. Addressing media personnel in the national capital after conclusion of the all-party meeting he said the Government is ready to hold discussions on key issues, including Operation Sindoor, in the Session that begins on July 21. Describing the meeting as constructive the Unioin Minister emphasised the shared responsibility of all political parties, regardless of ideological differences. 'Government noted their points. We have requested that to ensure that the House function properly, ruling side and Opposition should work together with good coordination. We might be political parties of different ideologies but it is everyone's responsibility to ensure that Parliament functions properly – Opposition's as well as Government's.' When asked about a discussion on Operation Sindoor, he said, 'This is a very good opinion. The all-party delegations to different parties in the aftermath of Operation Sindoor had gone down very well, effectively and all those great experiences must be shared before the nation. We must welcome it.' On the issue of Justice Yashwant Verma, Rijiju said that more than 100 MPs have signed a motion seeking his impeachment, which the government plans to bring forward during the current Parliament session. 'In the Justice Varma case, the process will be undertaken together by all parties. This is not the move by the Government alone,' Rijiju said. Apart from this, Rijiju acknowledged a recurring concern raised by smaller political outfits of not getting allocated ample time to speak. 'Members of small political parties, especially those with one or two MPs, get lesser time to speak because time is allocated as per their numbers. But we have taken cognisance of this. We have agreed to allocate ample time to small parties. We will present this before the Lok Sabha Speaker and Rajya Sabha Chairman and then we will raise this issue in Business Advisory Committee.' He said that the all-party meeting saw participation from 51 political parties and 54 members attended. 'Forty people presented their opinion on behalf of their parties. It was very constructive. All political leaders stated the position of their parties and the issues that they want to bring in this session.' Rijiju stated 'The Opposition presented their opinions. Leaders from the NDA, UPA (INDIA alliance), and other non-aligned parties spoke freely. We will take all these issues to Parliament. What will be discussed and how will be finalized in the Business Advisory Committee.' The Monsoon Session is expected to witness heated debates, with the Opposition gearing up to raise a range of issues, including foreign policy transparency, internal evictions, and electoral exercises like Bihar's SIR campaign. During the monsoon session of Parliament the government plans to push its legislative agenda, which includes some new bills. The bills on the agenda of the government include Manipur Goods and Services Tax (Amendment) Bill of 2025, Taxation Laws (Amendment) Bill of 2025, Jan Vishwas (Amendment of Provisions) Bill 2025, the Indian Institutes of Management (Amendment) bill 2025, the Geoheritage Sites and Geo-relics (Preservation and Maintenance) bill 2025, the Mines and Mines (Development and Regulation) Amendment Bill 2025, the National Sports Governance Bill 2025 and the National Anti-Doping (Amendment) Bill 2025. The agenda of the government also includes the Readjustment of Representation of Scheduled Tribes in Assembly Constituencies of the State of Goa Bill, 2024, the Merchant Shipping Bill, 2024, the Indian Ports Bill, 2025, and the Income Tax Bill, 2025. The monsoon session of Parliament will continue till August 21.
