Limbang court grants stay of execution for father and son
Mohamad Fauzi bin Mohamad, 59, and Mohamad Sam Husni, 32, both from Nibong Tebal, have been released on bail of RM3,000 each with two sureties, pending their appeal hearing at the High Court.
The pair had previously been sentenced to three months' imprisonment from their arrest on 1 May 2025, and fined RM4,000, with an additional three months' imprisonment in default, for the illegal possession of over two kilograms of agarwood chips and 2,347 grams of agarwood powder.
Their legal counsel, Low Lik Yuan, informed Sessions Court Judge Monica Linsua on Monday (May 19) that both had already served ten days in custody, including four days in remand at the Limbang prison and police lock-up, prior to their conviction on 13 May 2025.
Low further submitted that the father is elderly and suffers from multiple chronic medical conditions, including asthma, and that his medical certificates were submitted to the authorities upon conviction.
Judge Monica granted the application following Low's submission and after being informed that the prosecution, led by Prosecuting Officer Simon Engka Crown of the Sarawak State Attorney-General's Chambers, had no objection to the stay pending the appeal's outcome.

PETALING JAYA: Ampang Jaya Municipal Council (MPAJ) will initiate a Disciplinary Committee Meeting following the case of a department head charged with accepting RM30,000 in bribes. Judge Meor Sulaiman allowed the accused to be released on bail of RM10,000 with one surety and imposed a condition for the accused to report to the Selangor MACC office on the first Saturday of every month. He also ordered the accused to immediately surrender his international passport to the court for safekeeping until the case is concluded. The court set Aug 19 for case mention and document submission.

Federal court grants RM50k bail to businessmen in organised crime case
PUTRAJAYA: The Federal Court has approved bail of RM50,000 each for two businessmen facing charges of involvement in an organised crime group, pending their trial. A three-member panel, led by Federal Court judge Tan Sri Nallini Pathmanathan, delivered the decision in a 2-1 majority ruling. The court imposed strict conditions, requiring the accused to wear electronic monitoring devices and remain within their home compounds. They must also seek police permission before leaving their residences and report to the nearest police station biweekly. Exceptions were made for hospital visits related to their medical conditions. Justice Nallini noted that the bail approval was primarily due to the defendants' health issues and the prison system's inability to provide adequate medical care. S. Man charged with murder of housemate in Shah Alam court
SHAH ALAM: A 41-year-old man was charged in the Magistrate's Court here today with the murder of his housemate last month. Faisal Abdul Aziz acknowledged the charge when it was read before Magistrate Mohamad Redza Azhar Rezali. No plea was recorded as the case falls under the jurisdiction of the High Court. The accused is alleged to have murdered Muhammad Fakhrullah Pauzihal Ali, 33, at a house in Kampung Kubu Gajah, Sungai Buloh, at 11.26 pm on June 25. The charge, under Section 302 of the Penal Code, carries the death penalty or imprisonment of 30 to 40 years, along with a minimum of 12 strokes of the cane, upon conviction. Deputy Public Prosecutor Alia Anisa Khairus Masnan led the prosecution, while the accused was unrepresented.
