No charges laid after Saskatoon garbage truck runs over bystander's legs

A person was sent to hospital after their legs were run over by a city garbage truck in Saskatoon. Saskatoon police have laid no charges after a city garbage truck ran over a bystander's legs Wednesday morning. In a news release published Thursday morning, the Saskatoon Police Service (SPS) offered more details surrounding the incident. At around 10 a.m. on July 30, police were called to an alley behind the 800 block of 20th Street West between Avenue I South and Avenue H South for a report of an injured person. Officers found a man suffering from 'serious, but non-life-threatening' injuries to his legs. He was taken to hospital by paramedics. An investigation determined that a City of Saskatoon garbage truck was in the process of a routine pickup when the driver was told by a bystander that they had just run over the legs of a man laying in the alley. The driver stopped their truck and remained at the scene. Members of SPS's collision analyst unit were called to investigate and determined the driver was negotiating a left turn to proceed northbound in the alley when the incident happened. "Impairment is not believed to be a factor of this incident and no charges have been laid," police said in the update. SPS continues to investigate.
