QEF 2025: Elon Musk shares his vision for AI, electric vehicles

CEO of Tesla and SpaceX Elon Musk called for regulatory reforms in the automotive and artificial intelligence industries to align with advancements in these rapidly evolving fields.
Speaking remotely at the Qatar Economic Forum (QEF), Musk reaffirmed his commitment to leading Tesla for the next five years, addressing concerns from investors who questioned his long-term dedication to the company.
He clarified that his advisory role to US President Donald Trump through the Department of Government Efficiency, known as DOGE, does not constitute a conflict of interest, stating that his role is purely consultative and does not involve decision-making authority. He also praised the departmentâ€s recent successes and progress.
Musk discussed the future of artificial intelligence and electric vehicles, emphasizing how modern technology is set to reshape the world. He also touched on the Starlink satellite internet service and its future outlook.
Responding to questions about his future involvement in political campaign financing, Musk stated that he plans to spend less on campaigns in the future, but if he sees a need for political spending, he will do so.

Elon Musk ‘sorry' after Starlink satellite internet suffers global outage
SpaceX's Starlink satellite internet has suffered one of its biggest international outages, knocking tens of thousands of users offline, a rare disruption that prompted an apology from senior executives, including founder Elon Musk. Starlink, which has more than six million users across roughly 140 countries and territories, suffered the disruption on Thursday that lasted for about two hours and 30 minutes, according to Michael Nicolls, Starlink's vice president of Starlink Engineering, in a post on X. The outage was a rare hiccup for SpaceX's most commercially sensitive business that had experts speculating whether the service, known for its resilience and rapid growth, was beset by a glitch, a botched software update or even a cyberattack. Users began experiencing the outage at about 3pm on the United States' East Coast (19:00 GMT) on Thursday, according to Downdetector, a crowdsourced outage tracker that said as many as 61,000 user reports to the site were made. 'The outage was due to failure of key internal software services that operate the core network,' Nicolls explained in his post. 'We apologise for the temporary disruption in our service; we are deeply committed to providing a highly reliable network, and will fully root cause this issue and ensure it does not occur again,' he said. Musk also apologised: 'Sorry for the outage. SpaceX will remedy root cause to ensure it doesn't happen again,' the SpaceX CEO and founder wrote on X, which he also owns. SpaceX has launched more than 8,000 Starlink satellites since 2020, building a uniquely distributed network in low-Earth orbit that has attracted intense demand from militaries, transportation industries and consumers in rural areas with poor access to traditional, fibre-optic-based internet. Starlink has focused heavily in recent months on updating its network to accommodate demands for higher speed and bandwidth.

Interior minister attends graduation of first batch of Master's in Law, Master's in Security Studies programmes
QNA Doha Minister of Interior and Commander of the Internal Security Force (Lekhwiya) and Chairman of the Supreme Council of the Police Academy HE Sheikh Khalifa bin Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani attended the graduation ceremony of the first batch of the Master's in Law and Master's in Security Studies programmes at the College of Graduate Studies, comprising 17 graduates. The event also marked the graduation of the 10th mandatory qualification course for male university graduates at the Police College, with 76 graduates, and the 3rd mandatory course for female university graduates at the Women's Police Institute, with 17 graduates. The honouring ceremony was attended by Minister of State for Interior Affairs HE Sheikh Abdulaziz bin Faisal bin Mohammed Al Thani, HE Sheikh Abdullah bin Nasser bin Khalifa Al Thani, Advisor to HH the Amir for Defence Affairs HE Hamad bin Ali Al Attiyah, in addition to a number of ministers, senior officials, and families of the graduates. Following the official ceremony, the Minister of Interior attended the graduation of the fourth group of the 'Tomorrow's Police' programme in its sixth edition (Summer 2025), which included 400 participants. The Master's programmes in Law and Security Studies aim to develop specialised legal and security competencies and enhance participants' research and analytical capabilities, keeping pace with contemporary legal and security challenges and serving the needs of state institutions. The mandatory qualification course for university graduates is a fundamental step in preparing qualified national cadres to work in a professional security environment through military training, specialised legal education, and the development of leadership skills and institutional discipline. The ceremony honoured outstanding students in various programmes. Cadet Officer Khalifa Rashid Abdullah Al Kuwari won first place in the mandatory qualifying course for males, while Cadet Officer Maha Hassan Al Nuaimi won first place in the course for female university graduates. The graduation ceremony for the sixth edition of the 'Tomorrow's Police' programme also included a visual film reflecting some of the programme's content, security presentations, and scenarios executed by the programme participants, and self-confidence-boosting skill demonstrations that reflected the high level of training and the qualitative benefits gained from the programme. The programme aims to instil national identity and a sense of loyalty and belonging in young people, promote noble values and responsibility, and contribute to community service and instill authentic Islamic and Arab principles through a variety of activities that develop leadership skills and enhance confidence among participating students. It also includes practical training to enhance capabilities in sports and military skills, as well as various educational and awareness-raising sessions. The programme's activities included numerous military and sports exercises and training, including infantry, shooting, swimming, self-defence, and various educational lectures.

10th Local Dates Festival kicks off at Souq Waqif
QNA Doha The 10th edition of the Local Dates Festival kicked off on Thursday at Souq Waqif East Square, under the patronage of the Ministry of Municipality and Souq Waqif Management. More than 100 local farms are participating, with a large official and popular presence. The festival will continue until August 7, welcoming visitors daily from 4pm to 9pm, and from 4pm to 10pm on Fridays and Saturdays, in a traditional atmosphere that reflects the importance of dates in Qatari food culture and local heritage. The opening ceremony was attended by Eng. Fahad Mohammed Al Qahtani, assistant undersecretary for Agriculture and Food Security Affairs at the Ministry of Municipality, and Abdulrahman Mohammed Al Numa, representative of the Private Engineering Office, along with a number of ministry and market management officials, including Yousef Khaled Al Khulaifi, director of the Agricultural Affairs Department at the Ministry of Municipality, and Mohammed Abdullah Al Salem, director of Souq Waqif and general supervisor of the festival. In a statement on the occasion, Al Khulaifi stressed that the festival has witnessed significant development since its first launch in 2016, in which only 19 farms participated, bringing the number of participants in its current edition to 116 farms, reflecting the growing interest in local crops. He noted the increasing turnout of visitors and the fruitful cooperation with the Souq Waqif management, which has contributed to the success of this event over the past years. For his part, Al Salem explained that Souq Waqif is keen to organise this festival annually in cooperation with the Ministry of Municipality, in support of the local agricultural sector. He pointed out that the site designated for the festival has been fully equipped by the ministry to provide a suitable environment for farmers and visitors. He said the market's central location in the heart of Doha contributes to attracting large numbers of visitors, making it an ideal platform for marketing local dates. The director of Souq Waqif and the festival's general supervisor noted that the previous edition of the festival recorded sales of more than 240 tonnes of dates, anticipating even better results this year, thanks to the high quality of local produce and the wide participation of Qatari farms, which offer a diverse selection of dates and date extracts. The festival is one of the country's most prominent agricultural events and comes within the framework of national efforts to support local production and enhance food security by encouraging farmers to improve the quality of their production and develop date varieties in line with Qatar's National Vision for Sustainable Development.
