5 countries to compete in Pre-Sea Games Kabaddi tournament
The tournament will feature five Southeast Asian countries — Malaysia, Thailand, Singapore, Indonesia and Timor Leste.
The competition will showcase three exciting Kabaddi disciplines, offering six gold medals in total: Normal Kabaddi, Super 5 Kabaddi, and 3-Star Kabaddi.
This tournament serves as a key platform for regional teams to fine-tune their preparations for the 2025 Thailand Sea Games and to strengthen cooperation and competitive spirit among Southeast Asian nations.
KAM, in a statement, expressed its gratitude to all participating countries, officials, and supporters for making the event possible.
"We look forward to a high level of sportsmanship, unity, and cultural exchange through this prestigious event," read the statement.
"We are pleased to confirm that the tournament is officially sanctioned by the South East Asia Kabaddi Federation (SEAKF), Asian Kabaddi Federation (AKF), and International Kabaddi Federation (IKF)."
Kabaddi, in its seven-a-side form, has been a medal sport at the Asian Games since 1990. It will be included for the first time in the biennial Sea Games, with six gold medals up for grabs at the Sea Games from Dec 9-20.

Consider Sibu as SEA Games volleyball host, rep tells federal ministry
Chieng takes a group photo with players and organisers. – Photo by Peter Boon SIBU (Aug 4): The federal Youth and Sports Ministry has been called on to consider Sibu as for the 2027 Southeast Asian (SEA) Games volleyball event. In making the call, Bukit Assek assemblyman Joseph Chieng said the riverine town has the capacity and ability to organise international events. 'As you are all aware, Malaysia is set to host the 2027 SEA Games, with Sarawak serving as one of the co-hosts. I am hopeful that, as a co-host, Sarawak will be able to hold the volleyball event in Sibu. 'I think this is very suitable because we have already demonstrated that we have the capacity and ability to organise these international events. So, I do urge that the federal Ministry of Youth and Sports to please give Sibu a chance to organise this high-level competition – SEA Games volleyball matches in Sibu,' he said when closing the Sarawak International Volleyball Invitational at the Sibu Volleyball Indoor Stadium yesterday. According to him, Sibu is the powerhouse of volleyball in Sarawak. 'And we have a very long history; we have produced a lot of national players. We have all the resources from our government to back up for us to organise these SEA Games volleyball matches in Sibu. 'And I believe that all the people of Sibu will agree with me, we welcome this SEA Games volleyball event to be held in Sibu,' he said. Chieng commended the players for showcasing exceptional volleyball skills, which will inspire the people of Sibu, especially the younger generation, to take up the sport. He noted that the players have built a connection, forming relationships not only among themselves but also across different countries and regions. He also praised the Sarawak Volleyball Association and the Sibu Volleyball Association for successfully organising another international event. A total of 13 teams took part in the week-long championship including from Thailand, Hong Kong, Mongolia, and Taipei. Joseph Chieng lead Sea Games volleyball

Spurs captain Son bids emotional goodbye in front of 65,000 fans in Seoul
SEOUL, Aug 4 — Departing Tottenham captain Son Heung-min was in tears and his teammates threw him in the air on an emotional evening in his native South Korea yesterday. Spurs drew 1-1 with Newcastle in a pre-season friendly in Seoul but that was secondary to the farewell for the 33-year-old attacker. There was also the sorry sight of James Maddison being stretchered off with what manager Thomas Frank said 'was most likely a bad injury' to his knee. In what could have been his final game for the north Londoners, Son played 65 minutes but did not score at Seoul World Cup Stadium, a day after announcing his decision to leave Tottenham this summer after a decade. He left the pitch to a thunderous ovation from nearly 65,000 fans, hugging his teammates and even his opponents. The South Korea captain was caught offside twice in the early going, as his teammates tried to create opportunities for him, but he did not really assert himself on the match otherwise. Son was replaced in the 65th minute by Mohammed Kudus and he walked off in tears as thousands of fans chanted his name. 'I didn't think I was going to cry at first,' Son said. 'But after hearing a few words from my teammates, leaving the club I've spent so much time with felt really tough. 'I felt really, really happy playing this match. Thanks to my fans, my teammates and also my opponents, I've had an unforgettable day.' Son, who has been linked with LAFC in Major League Soccer, declined to reveal his next destination, saying: 'Nothing has been finalised.' Frank said he enjoyed the 'unbelievable, beautiful scenes' Son had with players from both sides on his way off the pitch. Newcastle boss Eddie Howe said his players' reaction to the end of Son's night had not been planned. 'I think it was very instinctive from the players,' Howe said. 'I think that speaks volumes for him as a person and him as a footballer that both teams recognise the way he's played the game.' Brennan Johnson's right-footed strike opened the scoring for Tottenham in the fourth minute, and the Welsh forward paid homage to Son by mimicking the South Korean star's camera celebration. Harvey Barnes levelled in the 38th minute, beating Antonin Kinsky with a right-footed shot that went in off the post. — AFP

MA back SEA Games-bound Norliyana's high jump bid, drop heptathlon plan
PETALING JAYA: You can't change the past, but you can certainly learn from it and that's exactly what Malaysia Athletics (MA) are doing as they gear up for the SEA Games in Thailand in December. In a strategic shift, MA have decided to enter seasoned athlete Norliyana Kamaruddin (pic) in only the high jump event, dropping her signature heptathlon in which she won a silver medal at the 2019 SEA Games in the Philippines.
