Wildberries tests ready-to-eat food delivery from restaurants

MOSCOW, RUSSIA - Media OutReach Newswire - 16 July 2025 - Wildberries, a leading digital platform in Eurasia, is launching a pilot service for express delivery of ready-made meals from restaurants and cafes. In the pilot phase, the service will operate in select districts of Moscow and St. Petersburg and is later planned to expand to other cities in Russia.
Wildberries will accept food orders through its app, while its partners will prepare and deliver the meals via their own logistics within an hour. The first partner in the pilot FoodTech project is the food delivery service Dostaevsky, which operates in the dark kitchen segment. The entire menu from Dostaevsky, spanning more than 450 ready-made items, will be available on the Wildberries showcase.
'With the launch of the ready-made meal delivery service, we are entering a new phase in the development of the Wildberries ecosystem,' said Elizaveta Shlein, head of the Delivery-by-Seller (DBS) division at the united company Wildberries & Russ. 'We are only at the starting point of our FoodTech direction, which we plan to scale across all regions where the company operates.'
The Russian market for restaurant-ready meal delivery is estimated to have grown by 30% in 2024, reaching the equivalent of $8.3 billion. Last year, food products surpassed home goods, clothing, and electronics for the first time in terms of online sales volume in the country. Wildberries has been recently expanding into fresh food sales via partners.

Russia threatens West with ‘preemptive strikes' as NATO looks to deliver Patriots 'as quickly as possible'

Former Russian President Dmitry Medvedev said Moscow should consider launching "preemptive strikes" against the West as the U.S. and its NATO allies ratchet up defensive support for Ukraine. "The statements of Western politicians on this topic are complete nonsense," Medvedev, deputy chair of Russia's security council, said in an interview with state media outlet Tass, according to Reuters reporting. "We need to act accordingly. To respond in full. And if necessary, launch preemptive strikes," he added. Senate Majority Leader Says Republicans Ready To Move On Russia Sanctions Bill When Trump Gives Green Light Medvedev's comments come just two days after President Donald Trump announced secondary tariffs on Moscow by slapping 100% tariffs on nations that purchase Russian oil if the Kremlin does not enter into a peace agreement with Ukraine within the next 50 days. Reports also surfaced this week claiming that Trump had mulled the possibility of Ukraine hitting the Russian capital while in a call with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy earlier this month. Kyiv would not comment on the issue and the White House said the question was taken "out of context" and was not an attempt at "encouraging further killing." Read On The Fox News App Trump this week said the U.S. would be sending Patriot missiles to NATO nations that would then be routed to Ukraine, and on Wednesday he suggested the sophisticated weaponry was already en route to Germany. "They're already being shipped," Trump told reporters from Joint Base Andrews in Maryland. "They're coming in from Germany and then replaced by Germany. And in all cases, the United States gets paid back in full." But the timing of the weapons delivery systems and where exactly they are being routed to remains unclear as a spokesman for Germany's defense ministry on Thursday told reporters he had no knowledge of such an incoming shipment. "I cannot confirm that anything is currently on the way. That is not known to me," the spokesman reportedly told Swiss broadcasting outlet SRF, before noting that a virtual meeting of the Ukraine Defense Contact Group (UDCG) will be held on Monday, when delivery specifications of U.S. Patriot systems will be hashed out. Putin Mum On Trump's 50-Day Ultimatum, Kremlin Officials Claim Russia 'Didn't Care' But the quick delivery of the U.S. missile systems appears to be a top priority for Washington and NATO as Switzerland, which is not a NATO nation, also announced on Thursday that its anticipated receipt of five Patriot batteries, purchased from the U.S. in 2022 with a pledged delivery date to begin in 2026, had been delayed. "The United States Department of Defense has informed the (Swiss Defense Ministry) that it will reprioritize the delivery of Patriot systems to support Ukraine, focusing on ground-based air defense," the ministry said in a statement. "No statement can be made at this stage regarding the exact timing and any further implications for Switzerland," the ministry added. "Clarifications are ongoing." Medvedev on Thursday said the action by Nato amounted to a full-blown war against Russia by the West. "What is happening today is a proxy war, but in essence it is a full-scale war (launches of Western missiles, satellite intelligence, etc.), sanctions packages, loud statements about the militarization of Europe," he told the Russian media outlet. Though the push to send Patriot systems and threats to sanction Moscow are significant as it is the first time since Trump entered office that he has looked to start actively countering Russian President Vladimir Putin's war effort, not everyone is convinced it is strong enough. EU leaders earlier in the week commented on the length of time the president allotted for Putin despite months of diplomacy failing to yield real action on the battlefield. And Zelenskyy noted that 50 days of waiting means another 50 days of death for Ukrainian citizens. "Fifty days, for us, is just – every day is scary," Zelenskyy said in an interview with the New York Post released on Thursday. "Putin has wasted President Trump's time," he added. "I would very much like to see the United States, the Congress and the president put some pressure on this situation with sanctions and so the sooner, the faster it can be done, the better." "We would certainly like to speed up this process," Zelenskyy added. "We, for our part, will work to provide more information [to Trump], more arguments for strong sanctions against Russia." Russia's Sberbank offers custody services for Russian crypto assets

MOSCOW (Reuters) -Russia's largest lender Sberbank wants to offer custody services for Russian cryptocurrency assets, the state-owned bank said on Thursday, seeking a leading role in Russia's development of digital assets. Russia's central bank has softened its opposition to cryptocurrencies, backing a law last year that let businesses use them in international trade to help skirt Western sanctions imposed on Russia over its conflict in Ukraine. Anatoly Pronin, executive director of Sberbank's alternative payment solutions division, said the bank had sent proposals to the central bank on the regulation of crypto assets in the country after seeing more and more banks elsewhere start to provide custody services. Speaking at a discussion on cryptocurrency regulation Pronin said Sberbank's proposals would see cryptocurrency assets regulated in a similar way to assets in bank accounts, and that the bank would guarantee tokens' safety. Safeguarding crypto assets on behalf of clients means they could be frozen if law enforcement authorities suspect wrongdoing but can make the practice of carrying out transactions easier and protect accounts from hacking. Gleb Zemskoy, director of the development of blockchain technology and digital currencies at Insight Finance, said no fund or crypto user could do without custody services. "The custodian is the backbone of the world's economy in terms of cryptocurrencies," Zemskoy said. "And at the moment, it is in the hands of private foreign companies, which indicates a huge risk." Gold to hit US$3,600 in second rally of 2025, and stay there through 2026: CIBC

The price of gold is forecast to hit a new all-time high of US$3,600 per ounce in the second half of 2025, and stay there through next year. That's according to CIBC Capital Markets analysts expecting an encore to early 2025's record-breaking rally. The spot price of bullion (GC=F) has climbed about 28 per cent year-to-date. Gold set a fresh record trading high at about US$3,500 per ounce in late April. Since then, prices have pulled back to the US$3,300-range. CIBC analyst Anita Soni says a banquet of uncertainty around the world this year is boosting the appeal of alternative reserve assets. Last December, her team predicted gold prices would average $2,800 per ounce in 2025. 'In that seven months, U.S. President Trump has taken office, initiated a global trade war and implemented several protective tariffs impacting goods imported into the United States, and threatened and backed off from multitudes more,' Soni wrote in a recent report. 'All this uncertainty has led to the acceleration of de-dollarization, supporting gold prices.' CIBC Capital Markets now expects bullion to average US$3,600 per ounce in the second half of 2025, and through 2026. In 2027, the bank forecasts US$3,300 per ounce, falling to US$3,000 in 2028. On Monday, the Toronto-based bank boosted its price targets for 36 Canadian gold stocks, citing expectations for lower interest rates, geopolitical uncertainty, and continued stockpiling by central banks among expected tailwinds for the precious metal. 'We continue to expect a positive macroeconomic setup for gold,' Soni wrote. 'We believe [U.S.] rate cuts are likely and it's a matter of 'when and how fast', and not 'if.''
