USA women hit huge win milestone with another rout against Carla Ward's Republic of Ireland
USA women's team earned their 600th international win on Sunday night after another dominant performance against the Republic of Ireland.
The five-time World Cup winners replicated their 4–0 victory over Ireland from Thursday night in Denver.

Alyssa Thompson and Emma Sears celebrate during the 4-0 win over Ireland in Ohio
This milestone only fuels their relentless drive to dismantle every opponent they face.
From the off, the USA were merciless, and Carla Ward's young Irish squad struggled to find any rhythm under sustained pressure.
The visitors were on the back foot right from the start as Emma Hayes's team sizzled in the heat with slick one-touch football.
It was 1–0 after 11 minutes as a smooth one‑two move tore through Ireland's compact defence.

Emma Sears sprinted down the right flank and delivered a perfectly weighted cross to the far post. Lynn Biyendolo met it first time with a composed side‑foot volley that screamed into the top corner.
The scheduled water stoppage at 25 minutes offered Ireland a much -needed breather as they absorbed relentless pressure.
Pinned deep, they managed only sporadic counters - too few to spare their overstretched defence.
Despite the lopsided play, Abbie Larkin chipped in with flashes of quality, and Chloe Mustaki punched above her weight at left-back, defending with grit and tenacity.

But it was all USA on the scoreboard, and they added to that tally just before the break.
Just as Ireland seemed poised to head into the interval trailing by only one, fate struck again.
Chelsea vs Benfica SUSPENDED with just five minutes left as referee takes players off due to severe lightning storm
Emma Sears appeared to double the lead, only for Brosnan to produce a brilliant close-range save.
But the rebound fell kindly for Izzy Rodriguez, who powered it home to double the US lead at half-time - a cruel echo of Wednesday's Denver fixture.
The second half kicked off at TQL Stadium in Cincinnati, with Ireland making three changes.
Lucy Quinn, Hayley Nolan - who last played in the United States in April 2023 - and Megan Connolly all joined the action.
Minutes later, a slick pass by 19-year-old Olivia Moultrie opened up space behind the defence. Izzy Rodriguez sent in a dangerous cross, but a loose volley gave Ireland a reprieve. It was still one-way traffic.
By the 50th minute, Lynn Biyendolo ghosted in behind the defence, nearly catching Brosnan off her line - but the keeper recovered quickly and parried her firm effort to safety.
Minutes later, another probing move saw Hayley Nolan caught out at the back, allowing Tara McKeown to surge into the box.
Her cutback to Croix Bethune was decisively blocked by a scrambling Irish defender.
At 54 minutes, Emma Sears unleashed a dipping strike that flew just over Brosnan's crossbar - a near miss that briefly rekindled Ireland's hopes.
A third goal soon followed as Sam Coffey initiated a slick move by threading a ball into the middle for Yazmeen Ryan.
The pass looked overhit, but Emma Sears kept it alive, finding Olivia Moultrie. Moultrie teed up Ryan, who slid home the U.S.'s third goal, putting the result beyond doubt.
A further water break at 70 minutes offered Ireland some respite in the scorching Ohio heat.
But Ireland still couldn't get hold of the ball, as the US side pinned them in their own half. Alyssa Thompson entered the game at 80 minutes.
Courtney Brosnan made another strong save just moments later, after Emily Sams cracked a close-range shot following Ireland's failure to deal with a free-kick.
A perfectly weighted lofted pass caught Ireland's flat defence off guard, and Alyssa Thompson took charge - first with a sharp touch, then rifling a powerful low finish into the net to make it 4–0.
The final minutes fizzled out in the scorching heat of Cincinnati after another gruelling learning curve for Ireland.
Ward's side now turns their attention toward the Nations League play-off with Belgium this autumn.

Lorcan is the golden boy as Ace AC takes Nationals by storm with medal hat-trick
The outstanding individual performances were handsomely rewarded with one brilliant gold, a silver and a bronze and there were impressive showings from other young athletes. This remarkable achievement is a testament to the hard work that Ace AC's athletes put in, with all athletes under the age of 17 needing to qualify through the highly competitive Leinster Championships. Leading the way was Lorcàn Forde Dunne, who will be hoping to be selected in the coming days for the Ireland team for the European Youth Olympics. He delivered a thrilling performance to claim the U18 3,000m All-Ireland title. The race was split into two heats and that meant that the medallists were decided on times. Lorcàn ran the second heat, knowing exactly what he had to do to secure victory. With a determined group of five athletes breaking away early, Lorcàn picked up the pace with one lap to go and, showing strength and focus, he surged ahead in the final 400m to clinch the gold medal with a fast time of 8:36. This victory secured Lorcàn's second All-Ireland title of the year, following his Indoor 1500m win in March, and the two sensational performances solidify his position as one of Ireland's brightest young distance runners. Minutes after Lorcàn's win, Ace AC turned its focus to Eimear Cooney and she secured a national silver medal in the U19 Girls 3,000m. In a race dominated by Louth based athletes, Cooney fought bravely alongside Dearbhla Allen from the Dromiskin club St Peter's. While Dearbhla pulled away for the win, Eimear maintained a strong position, finishing in second place with a commanding performance. This latest achievement adds to Eimear's already impressive record of national podium finishes, and she continues to be one of the most consistent performers in her age group in Ireland. ADVERTISEMENT One of Ace AC's top field athletes, Jaheim Humphrey, picked up the club's other medal at the championships when he claimed a great bronze in the U17 discus competition. The Leinster champion threw a personal best of 40.19m, securing his first ever National medal. Jaheim, who is relatively new to the event, has shown incredible promise and will undoubtedly continue to rise in the ranks of Irish discus throwers. Outside of the medals, one of the standout stories of the weekend was the performance of Caoimhe Carolan, who became the first young Ace AC girl to qualify for a final at the national level apart from the club's successful group of older, established athletes. In the U13 Girls 600m Caoimhe showed incredible grit to finish just short of her personal best in a time of 1:44.82, securing 12th place in Ireland. Caoimhe has broken new ground for the club and became another role model for younger athletes aspiring to make it to the National stage. Her qualification through the Leinster Championships and her performance in the final is a huge milestone for Ace AC's future. Daniel Hanley has shown serious improvement over the last 12 months and he also represented the club at the Nationals in the U17 Boys 800m, where he ran in the second of two heats. The race was tactical, with athletes bunched together for much of the first 600m before a fast last 200. Daniel fought hard in the final stretch, gaining invaluable experience in what was a really challenging race. Meanwhile away from the National Championships, other Ace AC athletes competed well in the Irish Miler event in Santry on Saturday, with Shea O'Donnell securing a new 1500m PB of 3:53. Sholah Lawrence and Daniele Adebola also both ran very well at the competition.

Brazilian side Fluminense progress to Club World Cup quarter-finals as Inter crash out
FLUMINENSE SENT INTER Milan packing from the Club World Cup on Monday with a 2-0 win in Charlotte that took the Brazilian side through to the quarter-finals. German Cano's header from close range gave Fluminense an early lead and they then withstood an onslaught from the Italian side in the second half before substitute Hercules sealed their victory late on. The Rio de Janeiro outfit, who qualified for the Club World Cup thanks to their Copa Libertadores triumph in 2023, become the second Brazilian side to make the last eight after Palmeiras had already sealed their quarter-final spot. Captained by 40-year-old former Paris Saint-Germain and Chelsea centre-back Thiago Silva, 'Flu' will now go to Orlando for a tie on Friday against either Manchester City or Al-Hilal. Advertisement It is the latest victory for a Brazilian team against prestigious European opposition at the tournament in the United States, after Botafogo defeated PSG and Flamengo got the better of Chelsea in the group stage. Inter came to the US off the back of their 5-0 defeat by PSG in the UEFA Champions League final at the end of May and with a new coach in Cristian Chivu. They did not fully convince during the group stage despite topping their section and they found themselves trailing inside three minutes before only just over 20,000 fans at the Bank of America Stadium on another hot afternoon. A cross from the Fluminense right by Jhon Arias took a deflection off Inter defender Alessandro Bastoni and the ball then bounced awkwardly before veteran Argentine striker Cano arrived to head in through the legs of goalkeeper Yann Sommer from close range. Ignacio thought he had made it 2-0 before the interval, only for his effort to be ruled out for offside. Sommer then tipped a fine curling strike by Arias around the post just after the hour mark, before Inter began to turn up the pressure in an attempt to avoid exiting the competition. Stefan de Vrij prodded wide from close range after captain Lautaro Martinez had headed down a cross, and the latter then saw a fine shot on the turn from the edge of the box come back off an upright. Martinez had also been denied by Fluminense goalkeeper Fabio moments earlier, and confirmation that it would not be Inter's day arrived in stoppage time. On as a substitute, Hercules pounced on a falling ball and drove into the box before firing low into the corner. Federico Dimarco then hit the woodwork at the other end as Fluminense held out for the victory to keep South American hopes of glory at the tournament firmly alive. – © AFP 2025
