Ben Healy remains 9th in GC as Thymsen Arensman wins final mountain stage
BEN HEALY REMAINS ninth in the general classification with two stages remaining at the Tour de France, with Dutch rider Thymen Arsensman winning the final mountain stage in La Plagne. Arensman picked up his second stage win on Friday as defending champion Tadej Pogacar closed in on a fourth title. Healy finished eighth in stage 19, two minutes and 19 seconds behind Arsensman, to keep himself in the top 10 of the GC. Arensman crossed the finish line in the rain two seconds ahead of title contender Jonas Vingegaard and his great rival Pogacar. Advertisement However barring a collapse, Team UAE rider Pogacar should claim his fourth Tour de France title aged just 26 years in Paris on Sunday. The Slovenian exits the Alps with a lead of four minutes and twenty-four seconds on second placed Vingegaard with just two stages remaining. German breakout star Florian Lipowitz strengthened his hold on third place and top spot in the under-25′s section on his debut Tour de France as he tracked the title rivals all the way to the summit finish. For Arensman and Ineos this was a symbolic victory as the British team begin their revival with the return to the helm of Dave Brailsford. Arensman slumped to the ground in tears at La Plagne as he just held on with a white-knuckle struggle over the final kilometres. He previously won stage 14 at another ski resort, at altitude in the Pyrenees at Superbagneres. This final mountain stage was shortened overnight due to an outbreak of a cattle infection along the route, reduced to just 93km, which ran to a rowdy finish at 2050m altitude. The stage however was largely uncontested in comparison to Thursday's epic cat-and-mouse between Pogacar and Vingegaard, who attacked the champion 71km from the finish line without ever dislodging him. Stage 20 on Saturday is a hilly run through the Jura, while Sunday's run to the Champs Elysees also features a potentially chaotic run up the cobbled lanes of Montmartre. – © AFP 2025

We've had quite a big turnaround in terms of personnel. "You've had a new manager come in halfway through the season and I brought my own staff in with me. That's probably one of the big things coming out of this window. Brendan Rodgers delivers Celtic transfer ambition message after brutal result
Brendan Rodgers has emphasised the need for Celtic to be ambitious in the transfer market following a pre-season wake-up call against Ajax. The Hoops suffered a second-half meltdown in Como, succumbing to a 5-1 defeat at the hands of the Dutch heavyweights. Despite not overreacting to the loss after a decent first half and notable friendly victories over Sporting Lisbon and Newcastle United, the Parkhead boss acknowledged the necessity for squad enhancements as they gear up for the upcoming campaign, reports the Daily Record. Rodgers remarked: "Yes, it depends what your ambition is. If your ambition is to really progress and push forward, then we need to improve the squad. "But I can't fault the players. The players that are here, they've been working so well, so hard and you see some of the play and how they work has been very, very good. "However, if you want to progress, then, as I said, you need to bring in quality and that's something that we hopefully can do." While Rodgers expressed disappointment with the team's performance in Italy, he remains calm. He explained: "I think the scoreline didn't quite reflect the game. I think that the first 60 minutes we played a lot of really good football with physicality, we broke through their pressure, scored one, could have had more. "I just thought the last 30 minutes, we've pushed the players really hard in the pre-season, so it looked a wee bit leggy. "But that aside, we should keep the ball better and can be better in duels, so there's no doubt we lost out on that. "Then the two final goals are probably a consequence of that. "There were enough really good moments in the game, but certainly the last 30 minutes, we would want to be better. "I think that's the nature of a pre-season. It's designed to grow and by the end of it, you've had really good tests." Rodgers disclosed that new signing Shin Yamada was prevented from making his Celtic debut due to administrative complications. The Japanese striker was initially named among the substitutes – only for the Hoops to learn his international clearance hadn't been processed, though he could feature in the Como Cup third-place play-off against Al Ahli. Rodgers explained: "We were told late on he wasn't registered. He couldn't play in the game. It was a UEFA game. "I think we thought it would be through. So, he obviously came with us and travelled. "But then, later on, an hour before the game, we were told he wasn't. "We hope he'll be okay for Saturday. Hopefully for the player. So, let's see where that goes tomorrow." Yang Hyun-jun netted Celtic's equaliser on the evening against Ajax and Rodgers confessed there's absolutely no chance the winger can be permitted to depart with the squad lacking wide players. He has been linked with a loan move to Norwich, but Rodgers stated: "I see Yang as an important member of our squad. He's a player that showed that domestically he can play well for us, and really well. He scored goals. He created goals. You see tonight that the goal he scored is very, very good. "It's always a challenge, I think, at a club like Celtic, whenever players have maybe been for a couple of seasons and they're not quite established. "Because then they want to go and play more. But certainly at this stage, where we're at within the squad, it's not something I can even entertain. You see he's starting the games. "And I see him as an important player for us in our squad. And once we can get the quality around him, then he'll be a good player for us. "It's hard to say. At this moment in time, he's a starting winger for us. So we're not in a position to be moving him on. At this moment in time, it's not even in our thinking really."
