Chelsea set to sign English winger Jamie Gittens from Borussia Dortmund
Gittens follows in the footsteps of Jadon Sancho, another former Manchester City youth player who developed his game at Dortmund. Sancho spent last season on loan at Chelsea from Manchester United.
Dortmund said that 'all parties involved agreed in principle' in Florida and contract details were being finalized.
Both teams are in the United States and are into the quarterfinals at the Club World Cup.
'The negotiations with Chelsea were challenging, but in the end, we are glad that we can most likely realize our expectations and gain planning security,' Dortmund sporting director Sebastian Kehl said in the team's statement.
Gittens joined Dortmund in 2020 shortly after his 16th birthday and scored 12 times in all competitions last season, but was often dropped to the bench after coach Niko Kovac took over in February.
Known as Jamie Bynoe-Gittens when he made his Dortmund debut in 2022, the winger announced last year he wanted to be known simply as Jamie Gittens. He said he was following the example of his father, who also uses part of his full surname.
Playing for more than one team during the Club World Cup isn't allowed under FIFA rules, so Gittens will have to wait for the new English season to make his debut for Chelsea.

'Lots of social spaces and, whether or not this deteriorates as the tournament goes on, you spend every day together, but we're spending quite a lot of time together at the minute. 'Lots of Monopoly Deal, cards, different games. We went out on a boat trip just to see the city that we were in on the day we arrived. So it's been nice and there has been Love Island watching. As well as enjoying their downtime, Williamson and her teammates are relishing the opportunity of playing in another major tournament. When asked about the advice she is giving the younger players making their tournament debuts, Williamson said: 'I think the game has changed a lot since the experienced members of the team played their first; the whole landscape of women's football. But I think it's giving them as much freedom to enjoy the experience, but know that they're ready to perform and make their mark on the pitch. And just trying to find that balance. I would never want anybody to come and be so anxious. 'There's lots of shiny things when you come to a tournament and lots of experiences to be had, but ultimately the main focus is on the pitch. 'I think based off of training, and I'm sure Sarina agrees, everybody's focus is football first, which has been great because I think sometimes players that have never been to a tournament – this is probably me when I went to my first – you have to keep them in line a little bit because they get a bit distracted. But there's no fear of that with these guys.' As well as praising her less-experienced teammates, she was full of admiration for manager Wiegman, who has won the previous two European Championships – guiding Netherlands to victory in 2017 and England in 2022, a first for both nations. "He's done a great job for us," Realmuto said. "That's just part of the growing pains of being a young pitcher." The 23-year-old has a 5.04 ERA and a 202 record through his first six starts in the big leagues. It's been an up-and-down beginning of his career thus far, but he's shown flashes, enough to warrant more time invested in him. But, for now, Abel will look to reset and rebound for his next start with Aaron Nola on the injured list and Andrew Painter in the minors.
