Real Betis leads Chelsea 1-0 at halftime of Conference League final
The Morocco forward drove home a ninth-minute finish from Francisco 'Isco' Alarcon's pass after Chelsea defender Malo Gusto gave away possession outside his area.
Betis limited Chelsea to long-range shots in the first half while looking more dangerous going forward in front of more than 40,000 fans at Stadion Wroclaw.
Chelsea was looking to become the first team to have all four of UEFA's club competitions — the European Cup/Champions League, the UEFA Cup/Europa League, the now-defunct Cup Winners' Cup and the Conference League — in its trophy collection.
The match was preceded by

Jannik Sinner rehires the fitness coach he fired for playing a role in his doping case
ROME (AP) — Wimbledon champion Jannik Sinner has rehired Umberto Ferrara as his fitness coach nearly a year after firing him for his role in the top-ranked player's doping case. The move comes after Sinner recently removed fitness coach Marco Panichi and physiotherapist Ulises Badio from his team. 'Umberto has played an important role in Jannik's development to date, and his return reflects a renewed focus on continuity and performance at the highest level,' a statement from Sinner's team said Wednesday. Last year, Sinner tested positive twice for a trace amount of an anabolic steroid in March; the case wasn't made public until August, shortly before the U.S. Open, which he ended up winning for the second of his four Grand Slam titles. He initially was completely cleared, based on the defense that he accidentally was exposed to the banned substance, Clostebol, via a massage from his then-physiotherapist, Giacomo Naldi. Sinner said his fitness trainer at the time, Ferrara, purchased a product in Italy and gave it to Naldi for a cut on Naldi's finger. Naldi then treated Sinner while not wearing gloves. Sinner then fired Naldi and Ferrara, and Ferrara was hired briefly by Matteo Berrettini, another Italian player. The World Anti-Doping Agency appealed the exoneration, and Sinner agreed to serve a three-month ban that ended right before the Italian Open in May of this year. Sinner, who won Wimbledon this month, will return to action at the Cincinnati Open next month as he prepares to defend his U.S. Open title. ___ AP tennis:

Chelsea stalwart could finally leave this summer with huge wages still an issue
With the Club World Cup now over, we're back in a similar situation to the one we were in a year ago at Chelsea – business has been done on bringing players in, now the hard work begins on shifting those we don't need. Last summer there was a full on bomb squad of first team players kept separate from the main group to encourage them to find a move. That won't be quite as necessary this year as those first team players who were at the CWC will be on holiday anyway. But those players who arrive at Cobham in the next couple of weeks know they're in the out tray. Newly promoted team target Chilwell Ben Chilwell applauds the fans. (Photo by) One player who the club would love to move on is Ben Chilwell. The left back spent the second half of last season on loan after a summer move couldn't be found, and so far has limited interest in his services pretty limited this summer too. We do finally have a new rumour to report on though – CaughtOffside claim that newly promoted Leeds are interested in filling the gap on their left created by the departure of Junior Firpo with the England international. England star's wages create issues once again As ever with Chilwell, his large wages are what create an issue, especially for a newly promoted team. But he will hope that by lowering his demands, Chelsea and Leeds can figure out how to make that work between them. Chelsea would likely accept a very small transfer fee just to get the former Leicester man off their books at this point. After missing half of last season and missing so many games in his career with injuries, he will surely be desperate to get back to action soon. It's not an easy deal to get done, but all 3 parties should be keen to do it.

Antony suffers fresh transfer rejection as Real Betis hopes fade
Antony has been told one of his transfer suitors will not make a summer offer to Manchester United next month. The former Ajax playmaker remains at a crossroads with United boss Ruben Amorim openly confirming he dos not have a place back at Old Trafford. Manuel Pellegrini is still keen to facilitate a return to Real Betis but an outright offer for Antony is viewed as too expensive. The Brazil international impressed on loan from from United at the start of 2025 as the 25-year-old scored nine goals at Real Betis. United remain determined to sell him this summer as Amorim looks to cut his wage bill. Antony transfer latest as Leverkusen reject offer United are confident of bringing in a major fee for the former Ajax winger with Atletico Madrid and Juventus previously flagging up interest, if Real Betis were unable to broker a deal. Former Red Devils boss Erik ten Hag was rumoured to be keen on a possible reunion at Bayer Leverkusen but the Dutch coach has now confirmed that will not be happening. Image via Diario AS 'Antony has a lot of quality. I signed him twice, he was like a son to me and still is. We're not interested in him at the moment, but we'll see what happens in the future.' Can Real Betis resign Antony? Despite the trail going quiet since the start of July both United and Real Betis are still working to agree a possible return to Andalucia. United could be open to another loan, but with the guarantee of a purchase clause for 2026, and that may tip the balance. The Premier League side could also insert a sell-on clause, if Antony continues to excel at the Estadio Benito Villamarin – or retain part of his rights – if he makes the move back to Spain in August.
