Kendrapada: Three hockey trainers were arrested in Jajpur district on Tuesday for the alleged gang-rape of a 15-year-old hockey player. A fourth person, who was also among those detained, was let off after police investigation found he was not part of the crime, investigating officer Sarat Patra said.
The survivor, who had been training at the centre for the past two years, had filed an FIR on Sunday night.
According to the FIR, the incident occurred on the evening of July 3, after a coaching session in a local stadium. The accused, aged 22, 26 and 27, allegedly took the girl to a lodge where they overpowered and gang-raped her. They reportedly threatened her with dire consequences if she disclosed the incident.
Following the FIR, police launched an investigation and arrested the three accused under Sections 70(2) (gang-rape), 74 (assault or criminal force against a woman with intent to outrage her modesty), and 35(2) (common intention to commit a crime) of the BNS, along with Section 6 of the Pocso Act. Investigation also revealed that one of the accused had allegedly raped the victim in March this year, the investigating officer said.
A court rejected their bail applications and remanded them in jail custody, police said.

Foreign dreams crash: 351 lose Rs 21cr in Mohali in year

Mohali: In a sweeping crackdown on illegal immigration rackets, the Mohali police registered 351 FIRs against 956 accused immigration agents over the past year for duping aspiring emigrants of Rs 21 crore. The investigations revealed shocking cases where gullible individuals were either abandoned in third countries like Jordan or trafficked via dangerous "Donkey routes" before being rescued from countries such as Indonesia, Vietnam, Malaysia, and Nepal. SSP Harmandeep Singh Hans said 173 people were arrested so far in connection with the scams. "These accused preyed on the dreams of innocent people seeking a better life abroad. Their hard-earned money was looted under the false promise of jobs, study visas, or PR routes to the US and Canada," said SSP Hans. According to police records, many of the agents were operating without any valid licence or registration. In numerous cases, victims were left stranded mid-route in foreign countries, far from their intended destinations. "Some were even dropped off in countries like Jordan instead of the US or Canada and had to return on their own," the SSP added. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Swelling and internal bleeding in the brain, help this baby Donate For Health Donate Now Undo In one such case, a young man from Phase 11, Mohali, identified as Manav, was sent to the United States via an illegal Donkey route but got trapped in Mexico. After making a distress call to his family, the Mohali police registered a case under Sections 318(4), 61(2) of the BNS and the Immigration Act. Three individuals were booked: Rinku of Kansal (Mohali), Gurjinder Singh of Naniwala (Ambala), and Makal of Ismailabad (Kurukshetra). All three were involved in orchestrating the route and collecting hefty payments. One of the police's major breakthroughs came when a human trafficking ring was busted and 33 people were rescued from Indonesia. These victims—residents of Punjab, Himachal Pradesh, and Uttarakhand—were promised safe entry into the US or Europe. Instead, they were kidnapped, held captive, and tortured in foreign safehouses. Police officials said that the traffickers would take the victims to countries like Nepal or Indonesia, beat them, and force them to contact family members back home claiming they reached Mexico. The families were then extorted for Rs 30 to 40 lakh, after which the traffickers would either abandon the victims or send them back to India. SSP Hans emphasised that Mohali police have intensified their campaign against such illegal agents. "We are pursuing each case diligently. Arrests will continue, and those responsible for ruining lives will be brought to justice," he said.

Ambulance carrying corpse rammed near Pipla Tunnel, two die

1 2 3 4 5 Nagpur: A funeral journey in an ambulance from Pune to Kolkata turned into a double tragedy after a horrific accident on the Nagpur-Jabalpur Highway claimed two lives. The incident took place around 5.30am on Wednesday near the Bharat Petrol Pump, close to the Pipla Tunnel, within Hudkeshwar police station limits. The ambulance, which was carrying the body of Kanhai Biswas, a resident of Kolkata, broke down mid-route. As per police reports, Shekhar Pawar (35), the cleaner of the ambulance, stepped out to seek help from a nearby petrol pump to find a mechanic. During this time, an unidentified speeding vehicle crashed into the stationary ambulance from behind and fled the scene. The family was en route to Kolkata after taking Kanhai's body in Pune, who died due to health reasons, said police. A senior police officer overlooking the case said, "We have registered a case of negligent driving. Technically, if a vehicle breaks down, it should be moved to the service lane or at least parked properly on the side of the road. In this case, the ambulance broke down in the middle of the road and was left there without adequate precautions. Also, as of now, there is no concrete evidence to suggest rash driving. Therefore, we have not invoked hit-and-run charges and have proceeded with a case of negligent driving instead. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like TV providers are furious: this gadget gives you access to all channels Techno Mag Learn More Undo However, further investigations will paint a clearer picture and necessary actions will be taken."
