SRMG partners with TikTok to empower content creators across KSA and MENA region

Broadcast Pro29-05-2025
The partnership will accelerate the creator economy and drive commercial growth by integrating TikTok's platform with SRMG's media ecosystem, events and training initiatives.
Saudi Research and Media Group (SRMG) has announced a strategic partnership with TikTok aimed at empowering emerging content creators in Saudi Arabia and the wider MENA region, while also driving commercial growth through a range of innovative initiatives.
The collaboration seeks to capitalise on TikTok's strengths in expanding content reach, opening up monetisation opportunities, and deepening engagement with the region's highly connected and digitally savvy audience. By integrating TikTok into SRMG's major events and diverse media platforms, the partnership will significantly expand the platform's presence in key sectors such as entertainment, sports, and lifestyle.
One of the central pillars of the partnership is the launch of #TikTokAcademy, a new initiative developed with SRMG Academy and tailored specifically for the Saudi market. This programme invites aspiring digital storytellers to submit original content across categories including lifestyle, fashion, film, news and sports. Selected participants will receive specialised training through SRMG's portfolio of media brands and will have the opportunity to work directly with industry professionals, including editors, journalists, and producers.
The partnership will also see SRMG's prominent cultural and entertainment events, including the Billboard Arabia Music Awards and Hia Hub, serve as key platforms for showcasing TikTok creators. Additionally, SRMG will leverage its expansive media network — which includes Hia Magazine, Sayidaty, Arriyadiyah, and Billboard Arabia — to amplify creator content through both editorial features and digital outreach.
This initiative arrives amid strong momentum in the regional media and entertainment sectors. In 2023 alone, the media industry contributed SAR 14.5bn ($3.87bn) to the Kingdom's GDP, with plans to more than triple this figure by 2030. The sector is expected to create 67,000 jobs by 2024. Entertainment revenues have already surpassed SAR 1bn ($0.27bn), reaching more than 75m people over the past five years — a surge heavily driven by social media, which has made Saudi Arabia one of the top global markets in platform usage and digital content creation.
Commenting on the partnership, Bassil Al Mouallimi Chief Strategy & Commercial Officer at SRMG, said: 'We believe in the power of community and in the influential role the new generation plays in shaping the future of media in our region. The region's creative economy is witnessing remarkable and rapid growth, particularly across the media, entertainment, and social platform sectors. Our strategic partnership with TikTok marks a significant step in solidifying our presence at the heart of this creative movement. We are working to connect talented creators with global platforms and foster an environment that empowers them to thrive and make a meaningful impact. This goes beyond simply producing trend-driven content — it's about building sustainable career paths, amplifying authentic voices, and driving growth in the content economy.'
Kinda Ibrahim, TikTok's General Manager of Content Operations in MEA, South and Central Asia, added: 'At TikTok, we are committed to empowering a new generation of storytellers by giving them the tools, platform, and global stage to express themselves and shape culture. Saudi Arabia is home to an incredibly engaged and creative community. Through this partnership with SRMG, we are doubling down on our efforts to nurture local talent, fuel the region's creative economy, and help creators thrive, not just in the Kingdom, but across the world.'
This strategic partnership builds on the momentum of earlier joint initiatives, including the launch of the Billboard Arabia TikTok Music Charts, a first-of-its-kind platform spotlighting the most streamed and culturally influential songs in the Arab world. It also follows the rollout of SRMG Academy's first technology journalism course, powered by TikTok, designed to train the next wave of Saudi storytellers in navigating and reporting on the fast-evolving tech landscape.

Lucidya Raises USD30 Million in Largest AI Funding Round in MENA

Lucidya, MENA's leading AI-Powered customer experience management (CXM) platform, has announced the close of its USD30 million Series B round—the largest AI investment ever raised in the region. The round was led by Impact46, the Saudi VC behind IPOs Jahez and Rasan. New participants included Aramco's investment arm Wa'ed Ventures, government-backed, digital-innovation catalyst Takamol Ventures, and SparkLabs. Existing investors Rua Growth Fund and ARG also returned, doubling down on their long-term conviction in Lucidya's trajectory. Congratulations were delivered by H.E. Eng. Abdullah Alswaha, Minister of Communications and Information Technology, during his visit to Lucidya's Riyadh headquarters. Founded in 2016 and backed by VCs since 2019, Lucidya is one of MENA's AI pioneers. Operating in 11 countries, it serves telecom, BFSI, hospitality, healthcare, and public sector clients with a combined market cap over USD250 billion—enhancing experiences for their +75 million customers and citizens across the region. Abdullah Asiri, Lucidya's CEO and Founder, commented on the round explaining, 'We bet on AI back in 2016, long before it became a boardroom buzzword. That early conviction is now paying off as we become the trusted, regional AI partner for CX.' At the core of Lucidya's platform is a proprietary Arabic-language AI engine with +92% accuracy—an industry benchmark that powers deep insights, intelligent engagement, and automation across customer touchpoints where others fall short. Lucidya is targeting MENA's rapidly growing CRM/CX software market, projected to reach USD9 billion by 2030. Commenting on the milestone, Asiri shared, 'We chose Impact46 to lead this round because they are one of the most proven VCs, with two IPOs in their portfolio. They are the perfect partner to scale Lucidya to a global AI force.' 'Lucidya is exactly the kind of company we look to back—founders solving real regional challenges with defensible tech and bold ambition,' said Impact46 Partner, Basmah Alsinaidi. 'Their mastery of Arabic-first AI and traction with top-tier enterprises mark them as a future category leader.' With this investment, Lucidya will scale its AI Agent offering, positioning itself as a digital workforce platform for customer-facing roles; automating and personalizing engagement across support, marketing, sales, and CX while cutting costs and ensuring compliance like PDPL. Asiri highlighted the expansion's impact, 'By expanding into AI Agents, we're tapping into the region's labor economy, turning workforce costs into scalable, compliant AI capacity.' Saudi women driving for Uber: How will it reshape mobility?

Image credit: Supplied As Saudi Arabia marks seven years since lifting the ban on women driving, The new feature is designed to expand mobility options for women while offering greater flexibility and opportunity for women drivers. It also supports Saudi Arabia's Vision 2030, which includes boosting female participation in the workforce. Read- 'We're thrilled to witness this dynamic change unfold in Saudi Arabia,' said Youssef Abouseif, General Manager of Uber Saudi Arabia. 'The launch of the Women Drivers product reflects our commitment to empowering women and supporting their mobility and economic independence. We believe initiatives like these play a pivotal role in Saudi Vision 2030.' Seamless experience for female riders The Women Drivers feature will function similarly to UberX, with pricing kept in line with current rates. Women can select the option directly in the Uber app to ensure they are matched only with female drivers. For those looking to plan ahead, the feature will also be available through Uber Reserve, allowing riders to schedule a trip with a female driver up to 30 minutes in advance. 'The future of mobility is electric, shared, and autonomous—but also inclusive,' Abouseif added. 'By giving women more choice, more opportunity, and a stronger sense of community, we're creating a platform that works better for everyone.' The announcement reflects Uber's continued investment in Saudi Arabia's rapidly changing mobility landscape, where more women are now using ride-hailing platforms both as drivers and as riders. Alnahda partnership and community support As part of the launch, Uber has partnered with Alnahda Society, a prominent Saudi non-profit dedicated to empowering women economically and socially. Established in 1962, Alnahda has a long track record of advocacy and capacity-building initiatives for Saudi women. This collaboration will support programs focused on mobility and financial literacy, equipping women with the tools and knowledge needed to pursue economic independence—including the opportunity to earn income by driving via the Uber app. This builds on previous partnerships between Uber and Alnahda, such as the Masaruky initiative, which helped thousands of women learn to drive and obtain a license as part of their journey into the workforce. In addition, Uber will host its first GigSister event in Saudi Arabia, a dedicated community space where female drivers can connect, share experiences, and support one another. The event is part of a broader global initiative to foster community among gig workers. Uber has a history of programs tailored to the Saudi market, including the Wusool initiative, which has provided over 20 million subsidized rides for women commuting to work. Another notable feature, Women Rider Preference, allows women drivers to choose whether to accept rides only from female riders. These initiatives have been designed to break down barriers to employment and enhance access to safe, reliable transportation for women across the Kingdom. 'With this latest product launch and our new partnerships, Uber is going beyond transportation,' said Abouseif. 'We are actively investing in the development and success of women across Saudi Arabia by integrating innovation, empowerment, and local insights into our platform.'
