Al-Sultan Abdullah calls for stronger role for Pahang Royal Council
Also present were His Royal Highness's children, Tengku Arif Bendahara Tengku Muhammad Iskandar Ri'ayatuddin Shah, Tengku Panglima Raja Brigadier-General Tengku Amir Nasser Ibrahim Shah, and Tengku Panglima Perang Tengku Ahmad Ismail Mu'adzam Shah.
During the meeting, His Royal Highness emphasised several important matters that required attention, among them strengthening the Royal Council so that it was not merely symbolic or ceremonial.
Al-Sultan Abdullah said that he was currently reviewing the establishment of a Royal Council Working Committee as a platform to enhance the council's functions and contributions to the people and the state.
"Among the possible roles and responsibilities are serving as an independent advisory body that conveys the people's views to the state administration, supporting environmental conservation efforts, especially on critical issues, and strengthening social networks through welfare initiatives and support for the underprivileged.
"I don't want to see Council members merely filling seats in official halls and chambers, but rather becoming key proponents and bulwarks of Pahang, offering wise counsel, leading by example, and serving with sincerity and integrity," His Royal Highness decreed in a statement uploaded on the Pahang Sultanate's Facebook page.
His Royal Highness also emphasised that such a role would not only strengthen the royal institution but also assure the people that they had a pillar of support and a voice that is heard in the state administration.– Bernama

Abdul Ghani passed away at 1.45pm Saturday. It is understood that Abdul Ghani, 83, had been receiving treatment in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) of the Raja Permaisuri Bainun Hospital following complications and breathing difficulties after his house caught fire on June 19. He will be laid to rest on Saturday night at the Kampung Rapat Jaya Muslim Cemetery, Ipoh, Perak. - Bernama

Illegal border crossings in Kelantan raise serious security concerns, says deputy MB
KOTA BARU: The presence of dozens of illegal crossings along the Kelantan-Thailand border has raised serious national security concerns, said Kelantan Deputy Mentri Besar Datuk Dr Mohamed Fadzli Hassan. He emphasised that Kelantan's border is an integral part of Malaysia's international boundary with Thailand and must be protected with utmost vigilance. "The border spans approximately 105km, with most of it covering Sungai Golok, which separates Kelantan from Thailand's Narathiwat province. "There are only three official entry points, namely Rantau Panjang, Bukit Bunga and Pengkalan Kubor. However, behind these checkpoints lie dozens of illegal crossings frequently used for cross-border activities,' he said in a statement on his official Facebook page on Saturday (July 5). Mohamed Fadzli also noted that the region's geography and close familial ties between communities on both sides of the border further heighten its vulnerability to security threats. In light of this, the state government stressed the need to strengthen border enforcement through increased personnel deployment, enhanced security assets and coordinated efforts among all relevant agencies. He added that the state government is fully committed to working together to ensure the nation's borders remain secure. Shamsul Azri: ECRL project reaches 85pct progress
KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysia Rail Link Sdn Bhd (MRL) has been instructed to closely monitor the implementation of the East Coast Rail Link (ECRL) project, which has now reached 85 per cent completion. Chief Secretary to the Government Tan Sri Shamsul Azri Abu Bakar conveyed this directive during the 32nd MRL Board of Directors meeting, held in conjunction with its retreat in Melaka which began yesterday. He said MRL was also tasked with ensuring that there are no disruptions, such as rail encroachments by irresponsible parties, as such incidents could affect the project's timeline and delay the targeted commencement of operations in early 2027. "I am confident that the ECRL project will become a landmark of national pride and a catalyst for economic revitalisation along its alignment and surrounding areas, directly benefiting the people and the nation. "This is in line with the 'Kesejahteraan' (prosperity) pillar under the Madani principle, which can only be realised through a whole-of-government and whole-of-nation approach, involving synergy between the federal and state governments as well as the private sector," he said in a Facebook post today. In a separate post, Shamsul Azri said the MRL retreat was vital in determining the strategic direction and operational targets of the ECRL service. "Various initiatives are being planned by MRL in collaboration with multiple stakeholders to ensure an efficient rail operating ecosystem, as well as to provide job opportunities for local youths. "In addition, this project will create avenues for business activity, stimulate economic growth, and improve connectivity between the West and East Coasts of Peninsular Malaysia," he said.
