'Aura farming,' explained: How a TikTok meme invaded the sports world
In terms of slang, it's all about looking cool, which in turn in certain pop culture would "build aura moments." But we're pointing to something very specific here in terms of a meme that has exploded everywhere, especially in the sports world and on TikTok.
It's of a boy standing on the end of a boat in an Indonesian event known as Pacu Jalur. He does all kinds of poses and hand motions that just look amazing as the boat gets paddled fast. So people are either using that footage or imitating the kid.
It's this guy:
Per Know Your Meme: "Aura Farming refers to an act of constantly trying to look 'cool' or "badass" to build 'aura moments.'"

Travis Kelce's Wordless Reaction to Patrick Mahomes' Latest Instagram Post
Travis Kelce's Wordless Reaction to Patrick Mahomes' Latest Instagram Post originally appeared on Athlon Sports. Kansas City Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce isn't on social media much these days, but when he does, he almost always gives fans something to talk about. Advertisement That was the case on Wednesday when Kelce popped onto Instagram to comment on one of his teammates' posts. Two-time MVP quarterback Patrick Mahomes shared on his personal IG page a new commercial he starred in as part of a paid partnership with beer company Coors Light along with the caption: 'Chill out in the chillest place on Earth, the Patrick Plunge. Come on in, the water's freezing. #ad #21+.' The video starts talks about fans wanting to be 'as chill as Patrick Mahomes' needing to cold plunge before cutting to a video of a Mahomes hopping into a giant cold plunge in the shape of his head, called 'The Patrick Plunge,' which the video dubbed 'the chilliest place on earth.' Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes (15) and tight end Travis Kelce (87).Jay Biggerstaff-Imagn Images The video ended by urging fans to 'take the plunge' on July 19 at Kansas City Live, with the proceeds benefitting the 15 and the Mahomies foundation. Advertisement Mahomes' post had nearly 17,000 views in just a few hours and nearly 200 comments, one of which came from Kelce. '😂😂😂😂,' the All-Pro tight end wrote. Kansas City Chiefs TE Travis Kelce reacts to Patrick Mahomes' Instagram Kelce and Mahomes are one of, if not the top quarterback/pass-catcher duos in the NFL. The tandem have combined for 686 receptions, 8,126 yards receiving and 56 touchdowns in the regular season, and 155 receptions, 1,745 yards, and 19 touchdowns in the postseason. After falling just short of becoming the first team in NFL history to three-peat as Super Bowl champions, Kelce, Mahomes, and the Chiefs have a solid shot of playing in their eighth straight AFC Championship Game and winning their fourth Super Bowl in seven years. What's Next for Yankees' DJ LeMahieu After Jazz Chisholm Decision
What's Next for Yankees' DJ LeMahieu After Jazz Chisholm Decision originally appeared on Athlon Sports. When one door closes, another one opens, or, at least, that's how things normally work. When Yankees Manager Aaron Boone announced that Jazz Chisholm Jr. was moving back to second base, it not only put the newly minted All-Star at ease but it also calmed a portion of the fan base. However, there was one person who was not at ease and that was DJ LeMahieu, who is now going to be 'a bat off the bench,' according to Newsday's Erik Boland, who reported Boone's statement on Twitter/X. Advertisement New York Yankees second baseman DJ LeMahieu reacts against the Boston Red Sox at Yankee Stadium on June 8, 2025.© John Jones-Imagn Images According to The Daily News' Gary Phillips, when Boone was asked how LeMahieu took the news, he said, 'Not great, necessarily, but that's kind of the situation.' Boone also continued by saying, 'Physically, it's a challenge,' for LeMahieu, right now. So, now, Chisholm is back at second, where he described himself to Phillips as an 'Elite defender. Elite slugging. Fast. Great defense. I don't know what else to tell you. Sounds like a complete player to me.' But where does that leave LeMahieu? Since the Yankees don't view third base as an option for LeMahieu – they've already said he's not going to play the hot corner – and he likely makes too much money to be strictly a bench player, you have to wonder if either a trade, being DFA'd or outright released is on the table? Advertisement His trade value is negligible at the moment, so while that would likely be the Yankees' preferred means of escaping the rest of LeMahieu's contract, it's also not terribly appealing. As for designating him for assignment or outright releasing him, Hal Steinbrenner has shown a disdain over the years for eating significant amounts of money to pay players to, in essence, go away. Regardless of which path the Yankees choose, one thing is clear: LeMahieu's time in pinstripes is rapidly coming to a close. If Rafael Devers had to hit his first San Francisco Giants homer against the Red Sox, so be it. At least the Sox won the game. Wait a second... they lost?! This is bullshit. Fire everyone immediately! More from Advertisement
