The popular Red Bull Shay' iMoto event returns but this year makes its debut in Durban. 2024 winner Chadwin 'Boksie' Hadjie will defend his title in this year's round. There are 16 drivers competing for the 2025 title. The sound of tyres shredding will be amplified at the Suncoast Casino on 10 August, when the popular Red Bull Shay' iMoto event makes its debut on the golden coast of Durban. South Africa's top spinners will not just be put to the test but have the opportunity to place their name in the spinning hall of fame. This growing culture of Spinning in South Africa has been a passion for many car enthusiasts as the unique sport has taken off and become recognised as a motorsport genre. Very recently, SA RedBull spinning athlete Samkeliso 'Samsam' Thubane wowed the crowd, and the likes of F1 driver Max Verstappen, with his skills in Austria. Spinning creates a car culture where you can express yourself freely, turning your everyday vehicle into a fine-tuned weapon performing in an open space. It's a different art form, and this event is like performing at Madison Square Garden. This will be the first time Red Bull Shay' iMoto will be held in KwaZulu-Natal. Last year, Cape Town local Chadwin 'Boksie' Hadjie took the title before a roaring home crowd. The 16 drivers will compete head-to-head, with a combination of returning champions with a lot riding on their shoulders and hungry new up-and-coming drivers ready to dethrone the champions. Drivers from various backgrounds participated in this event, from generational spinners performing since birth to newcomers inspired by the previous Shay' iMoto events. Shay' iMoto is not about who can make the most smoke or who can hold the longest drift. The judges are looking for control, style, drama, and crowd reaction. Spinning has evolved from just a few cars doing burnouts to an artistic performance. Sunset Casino is not just a different location but will bring a local aura to the event with coastal views. High expectations will be expected from this event with old age rivalries, high stakes, and the sound of screaming fans. Tickets are available via Computicket. ‘My time has finally come': Uzalo's Duduzile Ngcobo wins first award at 58
Supplied Duduzile Ngcobo was awarded Best Supporting Actress after only one previous nomination in 2021. She made her first red-carpet appearance at the awards and wore a cow skin outfit symbolising woman strength. She said her children and father played crucial roles in supporting her career from the beginning. Uzalo actress Duduzile Ngcobo recently received her first-ever recognition for her contribution to the entertainment industry, at the age of 58. The milestone happened at the Simon Mabhunu Sabela KZN Film & Television Awards, where she was honoured with the Best Supporting Actress in TV award. Fighting back tears, a visibly emotional Ngcobo repeatedly expressed gratitude to her children, neighbours, family, colleagues and supporters. 'I don't want to cry because my makeup will be ruined,' she said as tears flooded her eyes behind the spectacles she wore on the day of the ceremony. Speaking backstage to City Press shortly after accepting her award, Ngcobo was still overwhelmed. I can't believe this. Pinch me. Duduzile Ngcobo With a decade of acting experience, Ngcobo has appeared in productions including eHostela, Durban Gen, A Soweto Love Story and Isithembiso. Despite her lengthy career, this was her first award, following a single prior nomination at the same awards in 2021 when she was still with Durban Gen, which was later canned. The win also marked her first red-carpet appearance. 'What makes me happy is that all this happened at home, in KwaZulu-Natal, where my umbilical cord was buried. It surely means that you should never turn your back on home,' she said. Ngcobo said she was grateful that the awards organisers had been watching her journey since Durban Gen. She further said she was not counting the years she had been in the industry without any proper recognition; she was focused on the craft. 'Everyone has their own time. If your time has not yet come, do not be jealous of other people or wish for their things; wait patiently. If you work hard and with love, your things will find you,' she said. As she laughed, she added: My time has finally come. This award will always be with me. I am even going to sleep with it until December. Duduzile Ngcobo The Umakoti Wethu actress said she was especially grateful to her three children and her father, who had supported her from the beginning. She shared how her two older children used to drive her to auditions and helped her run lines, while her father assisted in translating scripts. She also thanked her neighbours, the Stained Glass TV's cast and crew, and her supporters, saying they all played a part in her journey. Shalate Sekhabi bids farewell to House of Zwide's Shoki
It's the end of an era for House of Zwide fans. For the better part of four years, actress Shalate Sekhabi has donned the character Shoki, best friend and confidante to Nefisa Mkhabela's Ona Molapo on eTV's House of Zwide. The show's fifth season started after the fourth season ended with major cliffhanger where Shoki is involved in a car accident with Wanda Zuma's Nkosi, resulting in her succumbing to her injuries. This marks the end of Shalate's run on the show after a whirlwind four seasons of heartbreak, explosive drama and finding love. Taking to Instagram, Shalate penned a heartfelt message of gratitude as hangs up Shoki's character. 'My heart is filled with so much gratitude. Farewell Shoki! ... thank you so much to everyone who has embraced and loved Shoki over the years. It's because of this character that I've become a household name and got my start in this industry,' Shalate writes. 'Shoki has changed my life beyond anything I could have ever imagined and the love from all the viewers online and in person is the most amazing thing to come out of all of this.
