Joe McCarthy enjoying friendship with ‘good fella' Henry Pollock
The forwards delivered eye-catching performances in Saturday's 54-7 victory over Western Force in Perth, seizing their chances three weeks out from the series opener against Australia.
McCarthy finished man of the match after embellishing a mighty shift in defence with some impactful attacking moments, while Pollock made up for flashes of indiscipline with the dynamism only he can bring to the back row.

Off the field, Ireland enforcer McCarthy has found himself forming an unlikely bromance with the swaggering England flanker.
'Henry's actually a good fella. He's proper high-energy and he's been very sound,' McCarthy said.
'He can be a bit much at times but he is himself and I've probably got on with him way better than I thought I would. Like we saw against the Force, he's class to have in your team as well.'
McCarthy was part of the Leinster side that were knocked out of the Champions Cup semi-finals by Pollock's Northampton, leading to some awkward initial moments when the rivals first entered Lions camp earlier this month.
'We got there and were thinking 'oh for f***'s sake, it's these fellas again!',' McCarthy said.
'But I've played golf with Alex Mitchell and me and Tommy Freeman are doing 'thought for the day' on the bus, so it's interesting to hear Tommy's thoughts.
'One I liked was 'today is the oldest you ever have been and the youngest you ever will be'.'
McCarthy admits he felt under pressure to deliver against the Force as he became the first second row to put his hand up for selection alongside captain Maro Itoje in the Lions engine room against the Wallabies on July 19.
The display was reminiscent of his night against France in last year's Six Nations when he first served notice of his potential, but consistency has been elusive for the 24-year-old.

'It's hard to put your finger on it, sometimes things just happen for you. But then you might prepare super well for a game and things don't happen for you,' McCarthy said.
'Here it feels like a level up. During the week I was nervous and on edge about playing well but I'm probably at my best when I feel like my back's against the wall a little bit.
'Andy Farrell wants us to be super physical, on the edge, but he also tells us 'don't be desperate, don't force things – earn the right to get off the line, make tackles and make turnovers'.'

May strike seals win for Livingston
Two second-half goals helped Livingston earn a victory at Alloa in their first pre-season challenge. Robbie Muirhead netted from the penalty spot, firing the ball straight down the middle of the goal, to open the scoring at the Indodril Stadium, but Irish-born forward, Connor Sammon, scored for the home side to level seconds from the break after slack defending. Livingston went ahead for a second time when Reece McAlear collected a ball and he scored from 12 yards and Stevie May then scored a spectacular goal, nicking possession near half-way and then sending the ball into the rigging with the goalkeeper struggling to get back for a 3-1 win. Two of David Martindale's summer acquisitions, Connor McLennan and Mo Sylla were given game time and Danny Wilson, who re-signed during the week, was also on duty. The Lions now head for Holland and their training camp when they are scheduled to play two games, the first against Greek, side Aris FC, on Thursday and against Belgian opposition in K V Kortrijk on Saturday. Meanwhile, Label 5 Scotch whisky continue as a men's first-team shirt sponsor for the next campaign. The name of the Bathgate-based business will appear below the player number until the end of the season however they may continue the partnership beyond this term. FLASHBACK: Stevie May scored at Alloa for Livingston on Saturday but he also played for St Johnstone and here he is playing against Hearts. Like this: Like Related

Children's sporting activities cost parents £443 on average a year, survey finds
Parents with children who participate in organised sport say their offspring try an average of three sports a year, with football – played by 62% of children – the most popular, followed by swimming (42%), and dance (20%), the poll for payment provider Clearpay found. Hockey is the most expensive sport, with parents spending an average £460 a year for their child to participate. Dance (£395) and basketball (£372) are the next most expensive sports, followed by tennis (£359) and gymnastics (£350). On average, the biggest outgoings are on lessons and coaching (£81), specialist kit (£67) and footwear, including football boots and trainers (£66). Budgets also stretch to travel (£62), club memberships (£59) and equipment (£43). Despite the cost, almost two-thirds of parents (65%) say they place no financial limit on how much they will spend to support their child's sport. However the cost-of-living crisis has also had an impact, with more than half of parents (53%) saying it has limited the number of sports their child can try. More than one in five parents (21%) also admit they regret how much they have spent on sporting activities their children have since given up. The poll also found major events such as Wimbledon have motivated nearly a quarter of children (24%) to try a new sport, with 37% of parents reporting that watching the British tennis tournament inspired their children to pick up a racquet for the first time. Rich Bayer, UK country manager at Clearpay, said: 'Parents are committed to giving their children access to different sports, which inevitably comes with a price tag. 'Ultimately, this investment will hopefully create a generation of people with a lifelong love of sport and active lifestyles.' Opinium surveyed 2,000 parents with children aged between five and 17 between June 13 and 20.

Tomos Williams forced out of Lions tour due to hamstring issue
Ben White has been called up from the Scotland squad that is currently in New Zealand to fill the vacancy created by Williams' injury, which occurred early in the second-half at Optus Stadium. Two appearances into his debut Lions tour and Williams had laid down an early marker for Test selection at scrum-half with his two-try display in Perth placing him in pole position to face the Wallabies on July 19. But the reigning Gallagher Premiership player of the season is now heading home to reduce Wales' representation in Andy Farrell's squad to a single player, Jac Morgan. 'Unfortunately Tomos has been ruled out of the rest of the tour with a hamstring injury. Ben White will join us from the Scotland squad and will fly over from New Zealand,' Farrell said.
