The field was 156 when the tournament started Thursday morning. The cut after 36 holes will be for the low 65 golfers and ties.
What is the projected cut after 18 holes?
The projected cut looks to be 4 under after 18 holes. That would send 65 golfers to the weekend.
Among those tied for 66th: Peter Malnati, Collin Morikawa, Matt Wallace, Erik van Rooyen, Matt Kuchar, Rasmus Hojgaard and Nicolai Hojgaard. Those golfers are all 3 under.
Some others with work to do Friday: Webb Simpson (2 under), Nick Dunlap (2 under), Joe Highsmith (1 under), Rickie Fowler (1 under), Keith Mitchell (1 under), Max Homa (1 under), Jake Knapp (even par), Joel Dahmen (2 over) and Davis Riley (2 over).
Who won the Rocket Classic last year?
Cam Davis won the tournament in 2024 when it was called the Rocket Mortgage Classic. There have been five different winners in the first six editions of the tournament at Detroit Golf Club. Davis is also in need of a good round Friday after he shot a 2-over 74 on Thursday.

Ahead of this week's Rocket Classic, the two-time major champion had a disagreement with Golfweek reporter Adam Schupak. He then shared his side to the story on Thursday afternoon. "Look, this has happened twice between the same, between me and Alan [Schupak]. Like, it hasn't happened between anyone else. Like, a lot of other reporters, media, I respect everyone. This whole idea that I don't do [media], I mean, I've looked up how many times I've finished second. It's not once," Morikawa said. "Keeps standing up and sticking his foot into his mouth. The reporters aren't the problem, nor are the caddies... wonder who the constant is...," one fan wrote on X. Former Spartan James Piot fires an even par third round at the Rocket Classic
The Rocket Classic in Detroit has continued on to the weekend, with players vying for their spots on the leaderboard. After the cut was made on Friday, Detroit Golf Club welcomed golfers in for the third round on Saturday, otherwise known as 'moving day' on the PGA Tour. Of the three former Spartans competing in Detroit's PGA Tour event, only one made the weekend, with James Piot making the cut on the six-under number. On Saturday, Piot was looking to make a move up the leaderboard, but he unfortunately was unable to do so. A two birdie, two bogey day led to a 36-36-72 round for the former Spartan, shooting an even par round. He now sits at T73 on the leaderboard for the tournament. Sunday's fourth and final round will be Piot's last chance to make a move upwards on the leaderboard. He will tee off at 7:34 a.m. in a grouping alongside Ben Kohles.
