JK Rowling reveals how involved she is in Harry Potter TV reboot after backlash
J.K. Rowling has confirmed the extent of her involvement in the upcoming Harry Potter revival.
The 59-year-old author behind the iconic magical franchise has sparked backlash in recent years over her comments about the trans community, and HBO's TV series has been drawn into the controversy.
The network previously defended Rowling over her 'right to express her personal views', while confirming she has a hand in the project.
Now, the writer has gone further in explaining just how involved she actually is.
'I read the first two episodes of the forthcoming HBO Harry Potter series and they are SO, SO, SO GOOD,' she wrote on X over the weekend.
When a fan asked if her post meant she wasn't penning the series, she insisted while that's true, she has still been hands-on.

Rowling replied: 'No, but I've worked closely with the extremely talented writers.'
It was previously revealed the author is serving as an executive producer on the Harry Potter series.
'We are proud to once again tell the story of Harry Potter – the heartwarming books that speak to the power of friendship, resolve and acceptance,' HBO told Variety.
'JK Rowling has a right to express her personal views. We will remain focused on the development of the new series, which will only benefit from her involvement.'

Some of the cast have already been forced to respond to backlash over the show and wider franchise over its creator's comments, which some have deemed as transphobic.
In a recent interview with The Observer, Hot Fuzz star Nick Frost insisted he does not share Rowling's views.
'She's allowed her opinion and I'm allowed mine, they just don't align in any way, shape or form,' he said.
He also argued that the controversy and backlash might not be something people should want to 'blow over' for the sake of the wizarding franchise.
Asked if it could 'overshadow the series', he replied: 'I don't know. But maybe it shouldn't blow over? We shouldn't just hope it will go away, because it makes it easier. Maybe we should educate ourselves.'

However, Tom Felton – who played Draco Malfoy in the film series – was criticised recently when he refused to take a stance on Rowling as he signed on to reprise his character in the Potter stage play The Cursed Child on Broadway.
Asked directly whether the controversy around her divisive position on the trans community had impacted his work with the franchise, he replied: 'I can't say it does, I'm not really that attuned to it.'
He added: 'I have not seen anything bring the world together more than Potter. She's responsible for that, so I'm incredibly grateful.'

And Just Like That..., the reboot of 90s and early noughties show Sex and the City, will come to a close after its third season, HBO has runner Michael Patrick King shared the news on Instagram, saying that as he wrote the last episode, "It became clear to me that this might be a wonderful place to stop."Named after its heroine Carrie Bradshaw's catchphrase, the series followed its characters' lives, clothes and romances in New York in their 50s.A two-part finale is yet to air and King said he and Sarah-Jessica Parker, who plays Bradshaw, "held off announcing the news until now because we didn't want the word 'final' to overshadow the fun of watching the season". Parker, known as SJP, shared a poem and photo montage in honour of "this chapter complete" on Instagram. Her co-star Kristin Davis, who plays Charlotte York, posted "I am profoundly sad."The franchise, originally based on books by Candace Bushnell, has already been made into two films. But King clarified that, "The ongoing storytelling of the Sex and the City universe is coming to an end," denying fans the hope of another spin-off. Viewership has progressively declined over the three seasons, according to Samba TV, a viewing data tracker. Its first episode saw 1.1 million US households tune in, with the latest generating less than half of that initial has plagued the reboot, in particular regarding its cast's diversification. Elle magazine wrote that the "attempts to diversify fell flat" while The Guardian called it a "heavy-handed overcompensation" that was "atoning for SATC's history of racial cluelessness".Apparent plot holes have also been spotted by viewers - including the father of one of the main characters seemingly dying twice. Character Lisa Todd Wexley referred to the period when her "dad died last year" in season one but in season three he appeared to have resurrected before suffering a fatal stroke. The show's production crew cleared up the rumour, telling The Hollywood Reporter that the first death was in fact of Todd-Wexley's Just Like That's final season also saw the character Che Diaz, dubbed the "worst character on TV" by The Daily Beast, replaced by a character who works at the have weighed in on the show's end with comments beneath the cast and crew's announcements."I wanted this show to run until all the characters were in assisted living and retirement communities in West Palm Beach" wrote one."We don't want it to end. Sarah Jessica Parker broke her silence on the end of Sex and the City reboot And Just Like That with an emotional and extremely lengthy tribute to Carrie Bradshaw. Parker, 60, who has played the witty writer since 1998, left fans in tears as she posted a video of memorable scenes from the two series and two films - hours after showrunner Michael Patrick King confirmed AJLT's third season would be the last. The show - which saw also saw Cynthia Nixon and Kristin Davis reprise their SATC roles as Miranda Hobbes and Charlotte York - will wrap up with a two part finale. Sex and The City enthusiasts had long expressed their disappointment in the HBO Max spin-off series, slamming it as ' woke ', 'awful' and 'cringeworthy' and lamenting the absence of Kim Cattrall as Samantha Jones. Fans had bashed the show and its writers, with some even alleging And Just Like That... had 'ruined' the once-beloved characters from the original Sex and the City and critics calling it 'the worst show on television'. In the wake of the announcement Parker bade an emotional 350-word farewell to her 'professional heartbeat' Carrie on Instagram, writing: 'Crossed streets, avenues, rubicons, so it seemed. 'She broke hearts, heels, habits. She loved, lost, won, tripped, leaped. Fell short and into puddles. 'Aged. Got wiser. She has made the hardest worst and best decisions. 'Traveled near and far. The original show ran from 1998-2004 with two films in 2008 and 2010. AJLT was first announced in January 2021 - 11 years after the panned movie, Sex and the City 2. It introduced a host of new side characters including Lisa Todd Wexley (Nicole Ari Parker), Seema Patel (Sarita Choudhury) and Dr Nya Wallace (Karen Pittman). The series kicked off in explosive style with Big (Chris Noth) dying of a heart attack in the first episode. Noth was later edited out of the series after being accused of sexual abuse by four women - he denied all the allegations and has never been charged with any crime. Miranda began cheating on Steve (David Eigenberg) - who was her true love over six seasons and two films - with Che (Sara Ramirez) before starting to exclusively date women, despite her character confirming in SATC she was 'definitely not gay.' It was claimed Cattrall had 'torpedoed' plans for a third Sex and the City film - but she later denied this. Cattrall shocked fans when it emerged she had filmed a secret cameo for the show's second season, which she did without interacting with any cast member. She had previously hit out at Parker and said 'we're not friends' after her former co-star posted an Instagram condolence message following the death of Cattrall's brother. It was explained in the series premiere that Samantha had moved to London after falling out with Carrie, with the Season 1 premiere finding Carrie reaching out to Samantha via text, making plans to meet in person and reconcile. Samantha's return came in the form of a phone call to Carrie in the season two finale.
