JK Rowling reveals how involved she is in Harry Potter TV reboot after backlash

J.K. Rowling has confirmed the extent of her involvement in the upcoming Harry Potter revival.
The 59-year-old author behind the iconic magical franchise has sparked backlash in recent years over her comments about the trans community, and HBO's TV series has been drawn into the controversy.
The network previously defended Rowling over her 'right to express her personal views', while confirming she has a hand in the project.
Now, the writer has gone further in explaining just how involved she actually is.
'I read the first two episodes of the forthcoming HBO Harry Potter series and they are SO, SO, SO GOOD,' she wrote on X over the weekend.
When a fan asked if her post meant she wasn't penning the series, she insisted while that's true, she has still been hands-on.

Rowling replied: 'No, but I've worked closely with the extremely talented writers.'
It was previously revealed the author is serving as an executive producer on the Harry Potter series.
'We are proud to once again tell the story of Harry Potter – the heartwarming books that speak to the power of friendship, resolve and acceptance,' HBO told Variety.
'JK Rowling has a right to express her personal views. We will remain focused on the development of the new series, which will only benefit from her involvement.'

Nick Frost has addressed the controversy (Picture:)
Some of the cast have already been forced to respond to backlash over the show and wider franchise over its creator's comments, which some have deemed as transphobic.
In a recent interview with The Observer, Hot Fuzz star Nick Frost insisted he does not share Rowling's views.
'She's allowed her opinion and I'm allowed mine, they just don't align in any way, shape or form,' he said.
He also argued that the controversy and backlash might not be something people should want to 'blow over' for the sake of the wizarding franchise.
Asked if it could 'overshadow the series', he replied: 'I don't know. But maybe it shouldn't blow over? We shouldn't just hope it will go away, because it makes it easier. Maybe we should educate ourselves.'

However, Tom Felton – who played Draco Malfoy in the film series – was criticised recently when he refused to take a stance on Rowling as he signed on to reprise his character in the Potter stage play The Cursed Child on Broadway.
Asked directly whether the controversy around her divisive position on the trans community had impacted his work with the franchise, he replied: 'I can't say it does, I'm not really that attuned to it.'
He added: 'I have not seen anything bring the world together more than Potter. She's responsible for that, so I'm incredibly grateful.'

And Just Like That... Sex and the City reboot will end with third season

And Just Like That..., the reboot of 90s and early noughties show Sex and the City, will come to a close after its third season, HBO has runner Michael Patrick King shared the news on Instagram, saying that as he wrote the last episode, "It became clear to me that this might be a wonderful place to stop."Named after its heroine Carrie Bradshaw's catchphrase, the series followed its characters' lives, clothes and romances in New York in their 50s.A two-part finale is yet to air and King said he and Sarah-Jessica Parker, who plays Bradshaw, "held off announcing the news until now because we didn't want the word 'final' to overshadow the fun of watching the season". Parker, known as SJP, shared a poem and photo montage in honour of "this chapter complete" on Instagram. Her co-star Kristin Davis, who plays Charlotte York, posted "I am profoundly sad."The franchise, originally based on books by Candace Bushnell, has already been made into two films. But King clarified that, "The ongoing storytelling of the Sex and the City universe is coming to an end," denying fans the hope of another spin-off. Viewership has progressively declined over the three seasons, according to Samba TV, a viewing data tracker. Its first episode saw 1.1 million US households tune in, with the latest generating less than half of that initial has plagued the reboot, in particular regarding its cast's diversification. Elle magazine wrote that the "attempts to diversify fell flat" while The Guardian called it a "heavy-handed overcompensation" that was "atoning for SATC's history of racial cluelessness".Apparent plot holes have also been spotted by viewers - including the father of one of the main characters seemingly dying twice. Character Lisa Todd Wexley referred to the period when her "dad died last year" in season one but in season three he appeared to have resurrected before suffering a fatal stroke. The show's production crew cleared up the rumour, telling The Hollywood Reporter that the first death was in fact of Todd-Wexley's Just Like That's final season also saw the character Che Diaz, dubbed the "worst character on TV" by The Daily Beast, replaced by a character who works at the have weighed in on the show's end with comments beneath the cast and crew's announcements."I wanted this show to run until all the characters were in assisted living and retirement communities in West Palm Beach" wrote one."We don't want it to end. We want it to be better," posted another.

Netflix movie dominates global top 10 with 47 million views in just 3 days

Link is copied Comments Summer blockbuster season is in full swing at the cinema - and it's the same story on Netflix. Because just as we're all flocking to the movies to catch Superman and the Fantastic Four in full flight, so too are people embracing the streaming platform's seasonal offerings in their millions. In fact this week's top three all boast viewing figures which at any other time of year would have secured them the number one spot - but like we said, it's competitive out there at the moment. Read on for this week's global most-watched movie chart... (Picture: Getty Images) Tyler Perry's on a Netflix roll at the moment following the enormous success of his psychological thriller Straw, and now his latest comedy is following suit, which sees the return of mouthy matriarch Madea. This outing sees the comic character heading to the Bahamas, as the daughter of Madea's nephew Brian (also played by Perry) prepares to tie the knot with a rapper. Plenty of slapstick and hi-jinks ensue, along with a healthy dose of heartwarming family drama (Picture: Netflix/Everett/Shutterstock) The first of this week's new entries comes courtesy of the ongoing Trainwreck series, which aims to shine a light on events, celebrations and situations which all went drastically wrong. PI Moms takes a deep dive into the 2010 Lifestime reality show of the same name about soccer moms turned private investigators - which ended badly when the head of their agency became embroiled in scandal (Picture: Netflix) Moving down the chart is this Brazilian comedy‑drama from director Felipe Joffily that's charmed audiences across the world with its messy familial twists and warm humour. It boasts a cast that sparkles with chemistry, though critics were quick to point out that it has more than a few predictable plot points - although the fact it's added another six million viewers to its tally suggests that's not too much of an issue (Picture: Netflix) The second new entry of the week is this psychological drama from Indonesia, which is keeping viewers across the world enthralled. A Normal Woman tells the story of a socialite whose life is disrupted by a mystery illness, which in turn forces her to confront her environment and question her own identity. Expect some complex themes, including madness and isolation, to be explored in this one (Picture: Netflix/Everett/Shutterstock) It might have been described as 'the ultimate grandmother of all bad movies ever made', yet this German sci-fi thriller continues to prove popular. The movie follows couple Tim and Olivia, who find themselves trapped in their apartment block after a mysterious, impenetrable brick wall springs up outside their door. When they discover their neighbours are facing the same fate, they are forced to work together to find an escape route (Picture: Netflix/Sasha Ostrov) Netflix's South Korean psychological thriller set in a claustrophobic apartment building is continuing to keep audiences gripped. The film centres on a man who invests his life savings into an apartment - only to discover there are some unsettling secrets lurking beneath his new home. Film reviewers applauded its tense atmosphere and sharp production design, though some found the specifics of the 'mystery' a little predictable (Picture: Young-Uk Jeon/Netlix) This quiet indie flick, which combines fall foliage with emotional isolation, continues to impress, vaulting up the top 10 this week and nearly doubling its viewing figures in the process. One of those movies that does what it says on the tin, it's the true story of Donn Fendler, a 12-year-old boy left to fight for survival after a storm separates him from his family - and leaves him trapped on a treacherous mountain (Picture: Everett/Shutterstock) Given the arrival of the long-belated sequel to Happy Gilmore, it's no surprise to see the original make an appearance in the charts. And what an appearance it is, with the 1996 Adam Sandler comedy driving all the way into the top three. The funnyman plays the title character, an aspiring hockey player who joins the PGA tour in a bid to make some money and save his grandmother's house. Mayhem ensues, of course (Picture: Universal/ Kobal/Shutterstock) In any other week KPop Demon Hunters' huge viewing figures would have seen it taking the top spot very comfortably. However the animated musical fantasy's time at the top has come to an end this week, despite adding more than 26 million more views to its tally. It follows Huntrix, a world-renowned K-pop girl band who are leading double lives as demon hunters - which comes in handy when they have to face off against a rival boy band, The Saja Boys - who are secretly demons (Picture: NETFLIX) And so to the movie that's seen off all competition over the past few days, scoring a hole in one with an astonishing number of views in just three days. Nearly 30 years on from the original Happy Gilmore, Adam Sandler once again picks up his golf clubs and returns to the title role, this time with our hero - now a retired, widowed alcoholic - heading back to the golf course in a bid to finance his daughter's overseas ballet school. Will there be chaos? You betcha (Picture: Netflix/Shutterstock)

Sarah Jessica Parker drives And Just Like That fans to tears with Carrie Bradshaw tribute as woke series ends

Sarah Jessica Parker broke her silence on the end of Sex and the City reboot And Just Like That with an emotional and extremely lengthy tribute to Carrie Bradshaw. Parker, 60, who has played the witty writer since 1998, left fans in tears as she posted a video of memorable scenes from the two series and two films - hours after showrunner Michael Patrick King confirmed AJLT's third season would be the last. The show - which saw also saw Cynthia Nixon and Kristin Davis reprise their SATC roles as Miranda Hobbes and Charlotte York - will wrap up with a two part finale. Sex and The City enthusiasts had long expressed their disappointment in the HBO Max spin-off series, slamming it as ' woke ', 'awful' and 'cringeworthy' and lamenting the absence of Kim Cattrall as Samantha Jones. Fans had bashed the show and its writers, with some even alleging And Just Like That... had 'ruined' the once-beloved characters from the original Sex and the City and critics calling it 'the worst show on television'. In the wake of the announcement Parker bade an emotional 350-word farewell to her 'professional heartbeat' Carrie on Instagram, writing: 'Crossed streets, avenues, rubicons, so it seemed. 'She broke hearts, heels, habits. She loved, lost, won, tripped, leaped. Fell short and into puddles. 'Aged. Got wiser. She has made the hardest worst and best decisions. 'Traveled near and far. For the new. The vintage. Friends and love. 'Changed homes, time zones, boyfriends, her mind, her shoes, her hair, but never her love and devotion to New York City. 'She had dates, drinks, boyfriends. A husband and truly great loves and romances. 'She hailed cabs. She ran in heels. And danced with Stanford. She told the truth and she lied. 'She typed. Wondered. Wrote. Published. Grieved. Forgave. Got stood up. Stood strong. Stood out. 'She devoted herself to hats, books, shoes, friends and the promise of a new day in her beloved city and the people she treasured most. 'She has worn shame, pride, honor, optimism and literally countless dresses, skirts, tutus. 'Held onto hands, hopes and the very best of people. Miranda, Samantha and Charlotte, there will never be better friends and what great fortune for Carrie to come to know and love Seema and LTW, most divine new connections. 'Carrie Bradshaw has dominated my professional heartbeat for 27 years. I think I have loved her most of all. 'I know others have loved her just as I have. Been frustrated, condemned and rooted for her. 'The symphony of all those emotions has been the greatest soundtrack and most consequential companion. Therefore the most sentimental and profound gratitude and lifetime of debt. To you all. 'MPK and I together recognized, as we have in the past, this chapter complete. 'AJLT was all joy, adventure, the greatest kind of hard work alongside the most extraordinary talent of 380 that includes all the brilliant actors who joined us. 'I am better for every single day I spent with you. It will be forever before I forget the whole thing. Thank you all. I love you so. 'I hope you love these final two episodes as much as we all do. Rabbit rabbit. Xxx, SJ.' Heartbroken fans took to social media to lament the farewell, with one writing: 'sarah jessica parker 's instagram post saying goodbye to carrie bradshaw. i am BESIDE MYSELF. Others wrote: 'I can't imagine that we'll never see Carrie again. There has to be a new movie or mini season in a few years to see what she, Miranda, Charlotte and Samantha (via text messages) have been up to. Not ready to say goodbye! '27 years, 1 unforgettable character. Thank you, Sarah Jessica Parker, for the heels, heartbreaks, and heart. 'new sarah jessica parker post is written like a patti smith instagram caption… oh she was having big feelings. 'Sarah Jessica Parker you did more than anyone ever could for Carrie Bradshaw and I respect you 1000% for it. Thank you for everything and I love you so much. AJLT saw Miranda cheat on husband Steve with non-binary comic Che Diaz, Carrie bizarrely claim 'love of her life' Mr Big was a 'mistake' and agreeing to take a five year break from her on-again romance with Aidan Shaw. The show's viewership had tumbled in its ongoing third season. King said in a statement: 'And just like that… the ongoing storytelling of the Sex and the City universe is coming to an end. 'While I was writing the last episode of And Just Like That… season 3, it became clear to me that this might be a wonderful place to stop. Along with Sarah Jessica Parker, Casey Bloys and Sarah Aubrey, we decided to end the popular series this year with a two-part finale and extended the original series order from 10 episodes to 12. 'SJP and I held off announcing the news until now because we didn't want the word final to overshadow the fun of watching the season. 'It's with great gratitude we thank all the viewers who have let these characters into their homes and their hearts over these many years.' Samantha Jones actress Kim Cattrall notably did not return for the series full-time after a decade of bad blood with her castmates. The original show ran from 1998-2004 with two films in 2008 and 2010. AJLT was first announced in January 2021 - 11 years after the panned movie, Sex and the City 2. It introduced a host of new side characters including Lisa Todd Wexley (Nicole Ari Parker), Seema Patel (Sarita Choudhury) and Dr Nya Wallace (Karen Pittman). The series kicked off in explosive style with Big (Chris Noth) dying of a heart attack in the first episode. Noth was later edited out of the series after being accused of sexual abuse by four women - he denied all the allegations and has never been charged with any crime. Miranda began cheating on Steve (David Eigenberg) - who was her true love over six seasons and two films - with Che (Sara Ramirez) before starting to exclusively date women, despite her character confirming in SATC she was 'definitely not gay.' It was claimed Cattrall had 'torpedoed' plans for a third Sex and the City film - but she later denied this. Cattrall shocked fans when it emerged she had filmed a secret cameo for the show's second season, which she did without interacting with any cast member. She had previously hit out at Parker and said 'we're not friends' after her former co-star posted an Instagram condolence message following the death of Cattrall's brother. It was explained in the series premiere that Samantha had moved to London after falling out with Carrie, with the Season 1 premiere finding Carrie reaching out to Samantha via text, making plans to meet in person and reconcile. Samantha's return came in the form of a phone call to Carrie in the season two finale.
