Blake Shelton Drops ‘Texas' on ‘Fallon,' Says Post Malone Fueled His Return
Accompanied by his longtime band, Shelton performed the rollicking, guitar-driven track, which chronicles a free-spirited woman who's vanished from the narrator's life, and is, in all likelihood, somewhere in Texas.

The track is the lead single from For Recreational Use Only, Shelton's first full-length studio album in seven years. The 12-song collection includes collaborations with Gwen Stefani, John Anderson, and Craig Morgan, alongside tracks written by acclaimed songwriters Sarah Buxton, Zach Crowell, Shane McAnally, Greylan James, Pat McLaughlin and Bobby Pinson. The album also reunites Shelton with longtime producer Scott Hendricks.
Before his performance, Shelton sat down with Jimmy Fallon and revealed that collaborating with Post Malone helped reignite his creative spark.
'Post Malone kind of got me, a fire lit under me,' Shelton said, referencing their duet 'Pour Me a Drink.' 'You know, it's been four years since I put out a record… And just being around him, you can't be around that guy without having a good time. He's just so excited about everything.' Shelton added that the experience pushed him back into the studio.
'I was like, 'Man, what am I doing? I need to make a record.' He had me fired up again.' As for Malone's country pivot, Shelton didn't hold back: 'Now he's, like, doing the country thing. I don't want him to go back to anything else. I just want him to do country music.'
Following 'Texas,' Shelton released a brand-new song, 'Let Him In Anyway,' a spiritual-minded ballad written by HARDY, Ben Hayslip and Jordan Schmidt. The song paints a redemptive picture of a man asking for divine forgiveness on behalf of a friend who 'never fully went all-in on redemption.'
For Recreational Use Only marks Shelton's first album under BMG Nashville, following his departure from Warner Music Nashville after a two-decade run.

'My Life as Liz' aired in 2010 and 2011 Liz Lee is getting some closure on a confusing period in her life. The artist, 34, who was at the center of the 2010 MTV series My Life as Liz, has recently talked about her brief time in reality TV on TikTok. In doing so, she's reconnected with some of her other classmates who appeared on the show, revealing she's even "squashed beef" with formal rival Cori Cooper. "I cannot relay to you guys how healing this has been. Without all of this renewed interest, I wouldn't have found her TikTok, where she started making TikToks about her experience. And it seems pretty awful, what she went through. I just felt so much empathy for her because we were both collateral damage from this machine." After Lee "slid into her DMs," she shared the two had "a really good talk" and encouraged fans to listen to her side of things. On Cooper's TikTok, she opened up about how, much like Lee didn't know she'd be at the center of the show, Cooper didn't know she'd be portrayed as a "villain." "It was very staged. It's not necessarily, it wasn't scripted, but I was told, 'Hey, say this,' 'Hey, do that,' 'Hey, be meaner.' It was just a lot of weird situations to be put in as a child by an adult," she shared. "Yes, I was 18. I signed my own contract. I didn't have to have my parents' permission. I have a lot of people that were, 'I can't believe your parents let you act that way and let you do that.' They didn't let me act any certain way, or do any certain thing. I was told that this was a show about high school life and what it's like to be in high school. And it was not." Cooper said that she didn't see the show until the rest of the world did, and she was "just as shocked" by how she was presented, adding "a lot of the stuff I filmed was never used." When commenters accused her of not taking accountability for her behavior, Cooper replied, "I actually never said that I didn't own it. I never said that I wasn't a bully. I just said that it wasn't... the show was very one-sided. There was stuff that went on, on both parties. I received a lot of backlash and again, I was never told, 'Hey, you're going to go be a bully,' or 'You're going to be made out to be the bad guy.' " Cooper says that she has "grown" from the experience, adding that at 34, she feels she doesn't deserve some of the backlash she gets. It appears that Lee's friends have also been thinking about the show since her TikToks have gone viral. In a video on July 22, Lee revealed that as part of her plan to watch and react to the series live on Twitch, members of "the nerd herd" would be joining her in an upcoming stream. "I reached out to Sully, Troy, Zona, Miles... those who were once affectionately referred to as 'the nerd herd,' the proud, the few. They are going to join me for live commentary on My Life is Liz on Twitch." The pseudo-cast reunion is likely on the slate for next week. Paramount-Skydance: Latest 90-Day Merger Extension Kicks Off Today
A second 90-day extension on Paramount Global's proposed sale to David Ellison's Skydance automatically triggered today as per the deal agreement, leaving the parties and the FCC more time to nail things down. Approval by the Commission led by Brendan Carr is required to transfer CBS broadcast licenses to Skydance. Any discussions will unfold against a presumably more favorable backdrop, that being a $16 million settlement announced last week between CBS and Donald Trump. The current window to close the deal runs through early October. Paramount and Skydance announced their long-gestating merger agreement after six months of back and forth exactly a year ago – on July 7, 2024. The President sued the network and 60 Minutes for $20 billion last fall alleging the newsmagazine edited its presentation of an interview with Kamala Harris to make the then-Democratic candidate sound better. Allegations, filed in court in Amarillo, Texas, shifted after Trump won to rest on a more convoluted, commercial argument. CBS has always denied all allegations and Trump's case wasn't considered strong. Paramount's controlling shareholder Shari Redstone was said to be eager to resolve the suit and move forward with the sale of her family's controlling stake in Paramount. A handful of politicians and interest groups had threatened to sue Redstone for violating anti-bribery statutes if Par agreed to a settlement. The settlement includes a donation for Trump's presidential library and covers his legal expenses. It does not include an expression of regret or apology. Paramount co-CEO George Cheeks told shareholders that settlements are not uncommon to avoid unpredictable legal costs, the risk of an adverse judgment that could result in financial and reputational damage and the disruption to business operations that prolonged legal battles can cause. The settlement with Trump 'offers a negotiated resolution that allows companies to focus on their core objectives rather than being mired in uncertainty and distraction,' he said at Paramount's virtual annual meeting last Wednesday. While the lawsuit concerned Paramount/CBS, any ongoing merger talks at the FCC level would now mostly involve David Ellison and Skydance, which would become the owner of the broadcast licenses in a deal. In December, Disney/ABC News settled a defamation suit by Trump for $15 million, including a contribution to his library, legal costs and an expression of regret over anchor George Stephanopoulos' inaccurate on-air assertion that the president-elect had been found civilly liable for raping writer E. Jean Carroll. Trump was found liable of sexually abusing and defaming Carroll.
