FAQs
Does the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 7 need a case?
Like many of the best Android phones, the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 7 is well constructed and sturdy. However, no smartphone ever constructed is impervious to damage, and it's worth equipping the expensive Galaxy Z Fold 7 with a reliable case that will provide long-term protection for your investment.
What should I look for in a Galaxy Z Fold 7 case?
As with any of the best Samsung phones, when looking for a case for your brand-new Galaxy Z Fold 7, there are always a few important factors to consider. You always want to make sure that the case you're choosing is reliable, fits within your budget, and doesn't hinder any features that you might want to use. Ideally, cases might even add features not otherwise present — like MagSafe compatibility.
If you're a manual laborer or person on the move, it is a safe bet to recommend a more sturdy case like the TORRAS Magnetic Shockproof case or a case from Otterbox. However, if you're a minimalist who can't stand the bulk of Otterbox, you would probably want a thinner, more stylish case like the clear case from Samsung.
Will a Galaxy Z Fold 6 case fit the Galaxy Z Fold 7?
A case meant for the Samsung Z Fold 6 will not fit the Galaxy Z Fold 7 due to their differing dimensions and screen sizes. For instance, whereas the Z Fold 6 features a 7.6-inch main display, the Z Fold 7's main display is 8 inches. If you have a Galaxy Z Fold 6, you can refer to our guide to the best Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 6 cases to help you figure out what works best for you.

The Galaxy Z Fold 7 isn't the thinnest foldable but it has the best design

If you're interested in technology, you'll know that every phone maker is pushing to claim the title of world's thinnest phone. A further subplot to this is the battle to be crowned the world's thinnest folding phone, a mantle that has already traded hands several times. Phone makers have long competed over various specifications, including display size, bezel size, battery capacity, camera quality, and more. Design is the latest in this trend, and the key quantitative measure is thickness. Samsung's a key player in both races. The Galaxy S25 Edge is currently the world's thinnest phone, although it's expected to be replaced by the iPhone 17 Air in September, which is expected to be considerably thinner. Recommended Videos The Galaxy Z Fold 7 offers a revolutionary design that is almost a third thinner than last year's model. It's not the world's thinnest folding phone – although it comes very close – but it does have the best design. Here's why. The Galaxy Z Fold 7 is not the world's thinnest folding phone Yes, despite Samsung making the Galaxy Z Fold 7 significantly thinner than the Galaxy Z Fold 6, it is still not the world's thinnest folding phone. However, at 4.2mm thick when unfolded, it is just 0.1mm thicker than the current mantle holder, the Honor Magic V5. This is key to know, as this thinness enables the Galaxy Z Fold 7 to be virtually indistinguishable from a regular smartphone. At 8.9mm thick when folded, the Galaxy Z Fold 7 is just 0.7mm thicker than the flagship Galaxy S25 Ultra, and the same thickness as the Oppo Find N5. Meanwhile, the Honor Magic V5 is both thinner and denser, as the white version is 8.8mm thick when unfolded. In contrast, the more plush materials used in the black, gold, and reddish brown colors result in those versions being 9mm thick when folded. However, while all three companies have split the difference when it comes to unfolded thickness, there's more variability in the weight. The Galaxy Z Fold 6 weighs 239 grams, while the other current-generation folding phone sold in the US, the Pixel 9 Pro Fold, weighs considerably more at 254 grams. Meanwhile, the international competition has shed grams considerably, with the Find N5 weighing 229 grams, and the Magic V5 even lighter at 217 grams. Samsung's answer is to be the lightest yet. Part of the Galaxy Z Fold 7's appeal is that it's three grams lighter than the Galaxy S25 Ultra, weighing 215 grams. This also contributes to its standout feature: its design. The Galaxy Z Fold 7 design is second to none When I first held the Galaxy Z Fold 7, I instantly recognized that this phone is special. I've held the Honor Magic V5 and used the Find N5 as my main folding phone since its launch, but the Galaxy Z Fold 7 has blown me away. Showing it to 30 people for the first time also reaffirmed that Samsung's revamped Galaxy Z Fold 7 design is excellent. It begins with the experience when the phone is folded. The Cover Display measures 6.5 inches, which is smaller than many of the best phones. This proves to be a blessing, as the front screen is narrower than that of other phones — folding or otherwise — making it comfortable for me to use with one hand. It has made the use case extremely compelling: an easy, one-handed experience that can transform into a two-handed, tablet-like experience in just a few seconds. While showing the Galaxy Z Fold 7 to friends and family, I asked everyone to close their eyes and then hold the phone. Most commented how light it felt, and despite the Galaxy S25 Ultra being 0.7mm thinner and just three grams heavier, the Galaxy Z Fold 7 feels refreshingly light. When asked to unfold it, most are amazed that it's a folding phone, and that the crease has been considerably improved to the point that it's indiscernible when you run a finger across it. Despite the incredible in-hand feel, there are still areas where Samsung can improve the design. Like its ultra-thin rivals, the Galaxy Z Fold 7's rated thickness only applies to the thinnest part of the phone, and the camera protrudes considerably from the back. Yet, it does so less than the Find N5 and the Honor Magic V5, which both feature a circular camera array on the back; however, the position of the camera poses a challenge as well, as it means the phone has an extreme wobble when placed on its back on a flat surface. The Galaxy Z Fold 7 is the best folding phone for many people The Galaxy Z Fold 7 is an interesting folding phone, as while it's not the absolute best folding phone available, it is the best option for most people. After spending the past two weeks with Samsung's new folding phone, I've come to realize that the Galaxy Z Fold 7 transcends the sum of its parts, offering an experience that is second to none. This is not due to specifications, as many global competitors offer thinner designs, better cameras, and/or larger batteries; rather, it is due to the combination of hardware and software on the Galaxy Z Fold 7. The Galaxy Z Fold 7's design is so good that I don't want to put it down Key to the Galaxy Z Fold 7's likely eventual success is the in-hand experience. The ergonomic feel is indistinguishable from that of a regular phone, and it is one of the few phones that genuinely exudes a wow factor. However, as Samsung's rivals have proven, even an incredible in-hand experience has little value if few people can experience it. This brings us to the competition. It's been a few months since the Oppo Find N5 was released, and customers were upset as OnePlus confirmed it had no plans to launch this as the OnePlus Open 2. Despite the Find N5 also possessing star power like the Galaxy Z Fold 7, the latter's broad global availability means far more people will experience the Galaxy Z Fold 7 than other folding phones. After speaking with more than 100 individuals about the Galaxy Z Fold 7, including a diverse mix of industry experts, tech and lifestyle creators, tech enthusiasts, and average customers, one thing is clear: everyone is raving about the Galaxy Z Fold 7's design. Two weeks after I started using it, I have to agree: the Galaxy Z Fold 7's design is so good that I don't want to put it down.

Tesla wants to bring its robotaxis to San Francisco. Here is what's standing in the way.

Tesla is launching an even-more-limited version of its early robotaxi service in San Francisco this weekend, according to Business Insider, after an initial rollout began last month in Austin, Texas. The company plans to send invites to Tesla owners to test the service, according to the report. Depending on how and if Tesla proceeds, its actions could violate state regulations — and even if there's a human safety driver sitting behind the wheel while its vehicles operate autonomously. Two state agencies regulate aspects of autonomous vehicles in California. The California Department of Motor Vehicles regulates the testing and deployment of autonomous vehicles, and requires permits for all three stages: testing with a driver, testing without a driver, and driverless deployment. Tesla holds a permit for testing autonomous vehicles with a human safety operator behind the wheel. It doesn't have a permit for driverless testing or deployment. And as of Wednesday it had not yet applied for additional permits, according to the DMV. (Mercedes-Benz, Nuro, and Waymo are the only three companies that hold driverless deployment permits.) Nor does Tesla have the proper permits from the California Public Utilities Commission, which regulates the commercial aspects of ride-hailing and chartered transportation by humans as well as those steered by autonomous vehicle systems. Tesla has a Transportation Charter Party permit, which allows a human driver to drive a traditional vehicle (not an AV) for charter services with the public, CPUC spokesperson Terrie Prosper told TechCrunch in an email. San Francisco | REGISTER NOW This is distinctly different from an autonomous vehicle permit for passenger transportation, according to Prosper. So-called AV authorizations, which Tesla doesn't have, allows for the testing and deployment of autonomous vehicles with or without a driver. Tesla has not received approval from the CPUC to offer autonomous passenger service to customers, paid or unpaid, with or without a driver (nor has the company applied), Prosper explained in the email. Tesla also doesn't hold a 'Drivered Pilot AV permit' from the CPUC, so it cannot even use an autonomous vehicle with a human operator behind the wheel for passenger service. This means that if Tesla deploys its robotaxis and the autonomous systems are engaged it will be violating state regulations even if the rides are free and there is a human safety operator behind the wheel. The push into California comes as the DMV is currently trying to stop Tesla from selling vehicles in the state as part of a years-long lawsuit over the promises the company has made about its cars' self-driving abilities. Tesla is also currently on trial in a lawsuit over deaths related to the use of its less-capable driver assistance system, Autopilot. Tesla has been running an invite-only version of its robotaxi service in Austin since June 22. It's so far been a far cry from what Musk has spent years teasing. The service is mostly limited to Austin's downtown core and main corridors. There is a safety operator in the front passenger seat who can intervene if the car is about to do something wrong or dangerous. While the service launched with around 10 vehicles, it's not clear how many Model Y SUVs are in operation in the city, nor is it clear how many times those safety operators have had to intervene. That's a long way from the 'general solution' that Musk said Tesla was working on for a decade. Musk was once so confident in the autonomous software Tesla was developing that he said it would take a car from Los Angeles to New York — a stunt that never happened. Musk said this week that Tesla is also trying to expand to Florida and Arizona. TechCrunch reported earlier this month that Tesla had begun the required certification process to test and operate with and without a driver in Arizona.

Headphone deals: Great prices from Samsung, Apple, and Marshall

Ryan Haines / Android Authority The Samsung offer is available from Woot, while the other sales come from Amazon. There are some price differences, depending on which color versions you want. We'll go into more detail in each section below. Samsung Galaxy Buds 3 Pro Samsung Galaxy Buds 3 Pro Samsung Galaxy Buds 3 Pro Situational awareness, and utility lights Compared to the nearly identical Buds3, the Samsung Galaxy Buds3 Pro offer better sound quality, thanks to 2-way speakers, and enhanced situational awareness, thanks to advanced Ambient sound offerings. Audio is delivered through a 10.5mm DD speaker, and a 6.1mm Planar speaker. Bluetooth 5.4 offers solid connectivity and features such as Siren Detect can automatically switch ANC and Ambient Noise levels on the fly. The new Interpreter mode works with your phone to offer translations. See price at Woot! Save $140.00 This is, by far, our favorite deal today. You can save a whopping $140 on the Samsung Galaxy Buds 3 Pro. In fact, the discount is bigger than the current price, which is $109.99. This is a super hot deal considering the Buds 3 Pro are great earbuds. These offer excellent sound quality and outstanding ANC performance. The rest of the experience is also on the premium side of the spectrum. They come with a pretty convenient 4.5-hour battery life (without counting the charge in the case). They are also very nicely built, with a unique look and an IP57 rating. A bit of sweat, rain, or dust will cause no issues! Just keep in mind that there are some Samsung-exclusive features. Some include device auto-switching between Samsung products, live translation, and sound detection. The latter can disable ANC if it recognizes important noises you should pay attention to, such as emergency vehicle sirens. Otherwise, these will really work perfectly with any phone. It will be really hard to beat this offer. It's available in Silver and White. The deal is available for seven days or 'until sold out.' The only caveat is that it doesn't get a full manufacturer's warranty, but you get a 90-day Woot warranty. Apple AirPods Max Apple AirPods Max (USB-C) Apple AirPods Max (USB-C) A spectacular pair of headphones with best-in-class ANC The AirPods Max wireless headphones offer best-in-class noise canceling with twenty hours of battery life. They provide excellent frequency response and great audio features. See price at Amazon Save $99.01 Are you invested in the Apople ecosystem? If you have an iPhone, iPad, MacBook, or a combination of all, your best option is to go with the Apple AirPods Max. These aren't exactly cheap, but today's $99.01 offer brings the price down to a slightly more reasonable $449.99. The Apple AirPods Max are among the industry's best headphones. They have excellent sound quality and impressive ANC performance. We also love the design, which has metal accents and a minimalist look that is now iconic of Apple products. Not to mention, they are very comfortable. Of course, you'll get plenty of features, but most are Apple-exclusive. These include automatic device-switching between Apple devices, gesture controls, Siri support, and more. While the battery life is not extraordinary, it is nothing to scoff at. We managed to get about 21 hours per full charge. Our only real gripe with these headphones is the price, but that is slightly better right now! The deal is available for all color versions except Purple. Marshall Major V Marshall Major V Marshall Major V The Marshall Major V headphones are a fun, rock-and-roll-inspired option for casual listeners who don't need ANC. With plush ear pads, long battery life, and wireless and wired listening options, the Major V headphones still have plenty to offer. However, its stock sound needs some taming from its companion app EQ for the best possible listening experience. See price at Amazon Save $60.00 Limited Time Deal! Samsung and Apple are super popular, and their audio gear is excellent, but there is a very special place in my heart for Marshall. The brand's history and culture are just the beginning. These headphones are also gorgeous and very solidly built. They look super cool. The Marshall Major V are fun, and rock-and-roll fans will absolutely love them. The earpads are pretty comfortable, and they offer a great experience across the board. Sound quality is pretty good, but these don't come with ANC, so keep that in mind before making a decision. These have more than impressive battery life, which is likely the model's biggest highlight. Marshall mentions they can last over 100 hours, and during our testing, we managed to get well over 90 hours per charge! We also love that you get both wireless and wired listening options. The stock sound is a bit treble-heavy, but you can customize that in the app's EQ. Most color versions available are equally discounted. The only exception is the Midnight Blue model. Are you going for any of these? Sign up for these deals before they go away! If you're not quite convinced, though, you can always look at other options in our lists of the best headphones and best wireless earbuds.
