Fugitive capybara caught by China zoo after two months on the run
The missing female rodent, named 'Doubao' -- 'Bean Bun' in Chinese -- absconded from an enclosure at the Yangzhou Zhuyuwan Scenic Area along with two other capybaras in early April.
Doubao remained at large for weeks after her companions were caught by zoo officials.
'The runaway child has returned home!' the zoo wrote in a social media post.
The capybara walked into a humane trap early Tuesday morning and was returned to her enclosure by zoo staff.
Despite spending two months on the run, Doubao gained weight and her fur was still 'smooth and glossy,' the zoo said.
'It looks like she was doing well out there!' it added.
A video published by the zoo showed Doubao sniffing around a cage and pawing at its sides while a person can be heard saying 'welcome home Doubao.'
Capybaras are native to South America but in recent years have become popular attractions at zoos worldwide, with the semi-aquatic rodents becoming unlikely darlings of the internet.
The zoo said the trio made their April breakout when another capybara Bazong -- 'Big Shot' -- broke through a fence.
Bazong was later found relaxing in a lake.
It took seven or eight zoo staff to trap the second accomplice, Duoduo or 'Hide Hide,' in a rubbish bin.
But Doubao eluded capture, with the zoo in May issuing a mock wanted poster accusing her of engaging in a mass jailbreak.
Officials at one point offered a reward of frozen fried rice, a carton of eggs, capybara-themed merchandise and lifetime entry to the zoo to anyone with information about her whereabouts.

Yoshihiko Fukuzumi recalls the arrival of the first two pandas at the park 30 years ago and has watch their family grow. Since retiring three years ago, he and his wife have visited them nearly everyweek. 'To us, they are like our grandchildren." Giant pandas are native to southwestern China and serve as an unofficial national mascot. Beijing lends them to other countries as a sign of goodwill but maintains ownership over them and any cubs they produce. Born in 2000, Rauhin had seven other cubs with Eimei, a male panda sent from China in 1994. Eimei returned home two years ago and has since died. Despite strained political ties between Japan and China, giant pandas are hugely popular in Japan. 'We feel comforted just by looking at pandas,' said zoo director Koji Imazu. Imazu said the departure of the four pandas marks the end of the zoo's 30-year joint project with China. He thanked Chinese specialists for sharing their expertise with the Japanese staff and said the zoo will be ready for a new arrival at any time. 'Of course we all miss them, but I hope you could send them off with a cheerful wave and wish them well in China,' Imazu said. In Beijing, China's Foreign Ministry spokesperson Guo Jiakun said giant pandas are 'friendly ambassadors" conveying the goodwill of the Chinese people. Guo said that China and Japan have collaborated on panda conservation and research since 2000, and that China is ready to further strengthen international cooperation, including with Japan. Rauhin and her daughters will be flown to China on Saturday where they will join other pandas at a facility in Sichuan province near their original habitat. There, the three young ones will find partners. 'I still can't believe they're all leaving,' said Junko Ikeda, a Fuhin fan from neighboring Nara prefecture who spent Thursday night in her camper van for the send-off. "I hope she finds a partner, becomes a mother and lives a happy life.'

A Blast at a Fireworks Factory in Central China Kills 9 People
An explosion at a fireworks factory in central China has killed nine people and injured 26 others, state media said Tuesday. A huge plume of smoke could be seen rising into the sky after the Monday morning blast in a video posted online by state media. The Shanzhou Fireworks Co. factory is in a mountainous part of Linli county, north of the city of Changde in Hunan province. The risk of further explosions and the lack of a major water source complicated the firefighting and the search for victims, state broadcaster CCTV said in an online report around midday Tuesday. Firefighters set up remote-controlled water cannons and brought in 28 water tankers and two trucks with high-powered pumps. The Ministry of Emergency Management sent a working team to the site. The cause of the explosion was under investigation.
