Dozens of engine oil containers dumped at Scots beauty spot as SEPA launch probe
An environmental probe has been launched after dozens of containers full of engine oil were found dumped at a Scots beauty spot.
The toxic waste was found ditched in water near to the village of Auchenblae in Aberdeenshire on Monday.
The hazardous haul included 37 containers of 25L of engine oil and loose oil filters.

Local volunteers carefully removed the materials from the water. As well as removing the containers they filled ten bags full of oil filters.
Residents praised the volunteers as they blasted fly-tippers.
One local resident said: "Oh my god. Unbelievable, of all the places to dump this c***p.
"I hope to heck they discover who it is. Thank you all for helping to clean up."
Scottish Environment Protection Agency (SEPA) say they have launched an investigation into the pollution incident.
Police are also working with the agency with an officer spotted at the scene yesterday.
SEPA chiefs say they have found no evidence that the oil has polluted the environment but further inspections are set to take place.
A spokesperson for the Scottish Environment Protection Agency (SEPA) said: 'SEPA were notified about a pollution incident involving dumped oil filters in the Luther Burn on 24 June 2025. We will work together with partners to investigate.
'There is no evidence oil pollution has entered the water environment. Our officers will conduct an inspection to confirm this and ensure mitigation measures are implemented if necessary.
"We continue to encourage members of the public to report signs of pollution online at www.sepa.org.uk/report or by calling the SEPA Pollution Hotline on 0800 80 70 60.'

It is understood the popular bar and bistro was still open when the fighting broke out. Officers have launched a probe and enquiries are ongoing. A Police Scotland spokesperson said: 'Around 1.15am on Sunday, 6 July, 2025, officers received a report of a disturbance on John Street, Penicuik. 'Two men, aged 45 and 50, were taken to hospital. Woman's body found at Scots property as police probe 'unexplained' death
Police Scotland are investigating the "unexplained" death of a woman in Bellshill. The body of a woman has been found at a Scots property as police launch a probe into her "unexplained" death. Emergency crews r aced to a home on Blairholm Drive in Bellshill, North Lanarkshire, at around 7.45am yesterday (Saturday July 5), with officers still at the scene today. The death is being treated as unexplained as investigations continue. Forensics were spotted on the scene alongside the police presence. A Police Scotland spokesperson said: 'Around 7.45am on Saturday, July 5 2025, a woman was found deceased within an address on Blairholm Drive, Bellshill. "Police remain at the scene, and enquiries into her death, which at this time is being treated as unexplained, are ongoing.' Yesterday, in a separate incident, we reported that a man who died after an alleged stabbing in Paisley had been pictured for the first time as his family paid a touching tribute. On Thursday July 3, at around 2.35am, emergency crews raced to Greenock Road in the Renfrewshire town after receiving reports of a man being attacked with a bladed weapon. A 39-year-old man was found seriously injured and blue-lighted to Queen Elizabeth University Hospital in Glasgow where he died a short time later. He has been named as Richard Lee and his family have released the following statement via Police Scotland: 'The family are devastated, we all adored Richard. He will be very much missed.' On Friday, David Arthur, 40, appeared before Paisley Sheriff Court charged with the murder of Richard Lee. Arthur, of Paisley, faced one charge of murder and one charge of an attempt to defeat the ends of justice. He made no plea and the case was committed for further examination. He will reappear in the dock within the next eight days. A team of forensic officers were seen combing nearby streets following the attack, with a police cordoning off the area and advising drivers advised to avoid the area. Uniformed officers remained guarding the area on Thursday evening. Detective Inspector Gordon Smith said: "Our thoughts remain with Richard's family and friends. We are continuing to offer support and are keeping them updated with the progress of our investigation. Scots dad who murdered his two kids in revenge attack against wife denied parole
Fife MP Richard Baker confirmed Rab Thomson had been denied parole after he was sentenced for 17-years for murdering his daughter and son in 2008. Scots killer Rab Thomson, who savagely killed his own two children in their family home in Fife after his marriage broke down, has been denied parole. Thomson stabbed his disabled daughter Michelle, 25, and seven-year-old son Ryan to death in cold blood in 2008. The 67-year-old was sentenced to 17-years for the murders in Buckhaven. His former wife, June, recently begged the Parole Board not to grant him his freedom - calls that were echoed by others in the community. Richard Baker MP for Glenrothes and Mid Fife has now confirmed that the killer has been denied parole after he wrote to the authority, along with his wife MSP Claire Baker. He said: "Rab Thomson, who killed his son, seven, and disabled daughter in Buckhaven in 2008, has been denied parole. "My wife, Claire Baker MSP and I, who wrote to the board seeking this outcome, welcome the decision. I'm sure many people in Levenmouth will feel the same." Thomson is believed to have murdered his children out of cruel revenge on his estranged wife June who left him after 27-years of beatings and rape. In his first official access visit, after June finally plucked up the courage to leave him, he stabbed Ryan 14 times as the little boy played a computer game at the family home in Buckhaven, Fife, on May 3, 2008. He then turned the knife on Michelle, stabbing her 12 times as she fought for her life, leaving her bedroom like a bloodbath. Detective Inspector Graham Fenton, one of the detectives in charge of the investigation, said the killer traumatised his family for years. He previously said: 'June had been the victim of emotional, physical and sexual abuse. 'None of this was reported to the police, however many victims of domestic violence often suffer in silence.' He added: 'When Thomson came into our custody, he was very matter of fact. 'He showed no remorse. In fact, he never asked for his children once. 'At one stage during the interview, he even refused to sit on the chair in the room. He actually lay on the floor. It appeared to me that this was Thomson trying to exert control over a situation that wasn't his.' Last year, a documentary called Britain's Darkest Taboos, that covered the murders showed how Thomson exerted control over his terrified family. Dr Keri Nixon, a leading criminologist told if how Thomson cracked because his image as the perfect family man was destroyed by his split from his wife June. In film, taken at Christmas 2002 when youngest victim Ryan was not yet two, Thomson's wife June, 54, is heard begging her husband to stop filming but he persists. Dr Nixon said: 'He wanted to present a perfect life to the outside world. He liked to be respected, he liked to be admired. His wife leaving him was not part of that image. Because he was losing everything, his way of dealing with it was to destroy it.'
