2025 NBA Free Agency Live Tracker: Updates, news, rumors, top players, signings, trades
Oklahoma City has set the bar and the chase to beat them — or at least the race toward respectability — gets serious on Monday with the official start of NBA free agency and the peak of the NBA trade season. Not that every team has waited — Kevin Durant is now a Houston Rocket and they are all-in on winning next season. Desmond Bane is in Orlando already, where he is an underrated fit with an up-and-coming Magic team. As of Monday at 6 p.m. Eastern, teams are officially allowed to start talking to free agents (although, in the tampering world of the NBA, if a team is not already at least two-thirds done with free agency by the time it starts, they are behind). In this tracker, we will give you all the latest signings, trades, rumors, and reports all in one place (all in order of when they happened, with the most recent news on top). This is a brief synopsis with initial thoughts on any deals; follow the links to view a more detailed analysis. Clippers, Nicolas Batum agree to new deal For a player scoring 4 points a game and averaging less than 18 minutes a night, it's difficult to overstate how much Nicolas Batum means to the Clippers. He steadies their bench units, provides needed leadership, and is a hand-in-glove fit for how the Clippers want to play. Which is why the Clippers are giving him as large a deal as they can with his non-Bird rights — $11.5 million over two years — to return, a story broken by ESPN's Shams Charania. Even with this deal and the team re-signing James Harden, the Clippers are $8.5 million below the luxury tax line, affording them the flexibility to bring in a player at the full mid-level exception ($14.1 million) or make a bold trade. Keep an eye on this team, they are in the middle of a lot of rumors around the league. Jazz, Jordan Clarkson agree to buyout Add Jordan Clarkson to the list of free agents. Clarkson averaged 16.2 points a game last season while shooting 36.2% from 3, and he wanted to be moved to a contender, but there was no trade market because of his $14.3 million contract. So, the Jazz and Clarkson have agreed to a contract buyout, reports ESPN's Shams Charania. With this buyout — where Clarkson certainly is giving the Jazz a discount, how much we don't yet know — he becomes a free agent. There will be interest from playoff teams who want to add some bench scoring, just didn't want to do it at the price he was getting paid. Expect now a taxpayer mid-level sized contract ($5.7 million) or less. Nets bring back DayRon Sharpe, Ziaire Williams By keeping all five of their first-round draft picks this year, the Brooklyn Nets are leaning hard into youth and a rebuild. With that, the Nets made a couple of moves before free agency opened Monday. First, they are bringing back big man DayRon Sharpe. This is a player the Nets didn't extend a qualifying offer to, making him an unrestricted free agent. However, the sides agreed to a two-year, $12 million contract, a story broken by ESPN's Shams Charania. Sharpe averaged 7.9 points and, 6.6 rebounds a game for the Nets last season. Second, the Nets are re-signing wing Ziaire Williams on a two-year, $12 million contract, Charania reports. Last season, Williams started more than half the Nets' games and averaged 10 points and 4.6 rebounds a night.

Why the Raptors aren't major players in NBA free agency
The Raptors will add a nine-year veteran former all-star who has averaged more than 20 points a game in each of the last six seasons, and is a 36-per-cent three-point shooter with a 56-per-cent true shooting percentage. The fact that they did it nearly four months ago — rather than when the NBA's free agency period fully opens on Monday at 6 p.m. — just means they were early shoppers. By adding Brandon Ingram in a February trade with the New Orleans Pelicans and then locking him up with a three-year, $120-million (U.S.) deal as he faced unrestricted free agency, the Raptors made an early foray that takes them pretty much out of the mix now. They will tinker on the periphery — Garrett Temple is committed to returning for another season — and there's always a chance that some 'too good to pass up' trade offer will come their way, but right now they're expected to sit out free agency. The Raptors don't have a ton of money (their salary commitments are above the NBA tax level, but below the first apron that would cut slightly into the moves they can make) and they're just about out of roster spots. With Temple back on a one-year deal that will pay him about $3.6 million (U.S.), Toronto has 12 players on fully guaranteed contracts (including Wednesday's No. 9 draft pick Collin Murray-Boyles) and has to decide what to do with second-round pick Alijah Martin. They have non-guaranteed contracts in place with Jamison Battle, A.J. Lawson and Colin Castleton, plus two-way deals with Ulrich Chomche, Jared Rhoden and Chucky Hepburn, an undrafted guard signed after the draft ended Thursday night. The dozen guarantees: Immanuel Quickley, RJ Barrett, Scottie Barnes, Jakob Poeltl, Jamal Shead, Ochai Agbaji, Gradey Dick, Jonathan Mogbo, Ja'Kobe Walter, Ingram, Murray-Boyles and Temple. That's 19 players under consideration already. Teams can have 15 full roster spots and three players on two-way deals. There is one need remaining: The Raptors have not yet settled on a backup to Poeltl at centre. But it's not a huge issue right now, and the front office could very well wait until after next month's Summer League season to see which low-salary players look enticing. Of course, the chance of a major trade disrupting the status quo exists, but NBA sources said Sunday that nothing seems imminent. What it also means is that the Raptors are almost certain to cut ties with Chris Boucher, the team's longest serving player and the only holdover from the 2019 NBA championship team. The 32-year-old Saint Lucia-born Montrealer, who joined the Raptors before the 2018-19 season, is an unrestricted free agent and there's not much interest in bringing him back. The big splash was getting the 27-year-old Ingram from New Orleans for Kelly Olynyk and Bruce Brown, and then signing him. And since he has yet to appear in a game for the Raptors as he recovered from an ankle injury, seeing him as the equivalent of a big off-season acquisition isn't a reach. The front office certainly saw it that way. The move was made with next season in mind and gave them months to work him into the system. Whether he fits is still unknown. It'll be up to coach Darko Rajakovic to work him in, but that's a coaching issue, not a rotation-building issue. The decision to bring back Temple was a no-brainer. The 39-year-old who will be entering his 16th NBA season has shown that not only can he play when called upon, but that his leadership in the locker room has been invaluable in two seasons as a Raptor. And it resonates far more as a player than if he'd become an assistant coach because the dynamic is just different.

Sam Presti reveals 2025 Summer League status for Nikola Topic, Thomas Sorber
Before Sam Presti took questions, Oklahoma City Thunder fans were handed a gift. For the sickos that watch Summer League, the OKC GM revealed that Nikola Topic will play and Thomas Sorber won't. The Thunder will play at least eight 2025 Summer League games between Utah and Las Vegas from July 5-16. This will give Topic his first chance to suit up for OKC after he was drafted with the No. 12 pick of the 2024 NBA draft. He missed all of last season recovering from a partially torn ACL. Meanwhile, it looks like Sorber will continue to recover from his turf toe that required surgery in February. The 19-year-old was taken with the No. 15 pick of the 2025 NBA draft. He spent a sole college season at Georgetown before he left. "We'll see when he gets out there playing in Summer League. He hasn't played 5-on-5 with, like, scoreboard, referees, people in the stands. We've got to give him some grace on that," Presti said about Topic. "But certainly excited to see him and what he offers to the team." It'll be exciting to watch Topic suit up. He had a high draft pedigree before his knee injury plummeted his draft stock. The 19-year-old will be one of the top players to watch during the summer extravaganza.
