Ukraine must 'accelerate creation of ballistic systems,' Zelensky says
Zelensky made the statement following his meeting with the Commander-in-Chief, where he was briefed on military supplies, staffing, and Ukraine's missile program, including domestic development and production.
"Our long-range capabilities are a clear and effective guarantee of Ukraine's security," Zelensky said.
Long-range missiles have been a critical component of Ukraine's defense against Russia's full-scale invasion. However, since the start of the invasion, Western partners have been reluctant and slow to provide Ukraine with long-range missiles out of a fear of escalation.
Kyiv first started receiving U.S. long-range missiles, specifically the Army Tactical Missile Systems (ATACMS), in the fall of 2023 – more than a year after Russia launched its invasion. At the time, Ukraine was only permitted to deploy these missiles against targets in occupied Ukrainian territory.
Former U.S. President Joe Biden eased restrictions on Ukraine's use of ATACMS in November 2024, allowing Kyiv to launch them against military targets in Russia.
Ukraine has also received the British Storm Shadow and the French SCALP missiles. However, earlier this year, Ukraine reportedly ran out of its supply of ATACMS.
While Ukraine's drone production industry has been successful – providing more than 95% of used on the front line – the missile development program has been slower, with some notable exceptions. Last year, Ukraine successfully tested its first domestically-made ballistic missile and produced 100 .
The combination of Western reluctance and restrictions, as well as limited supply of long-range missiles, has underscored Ukraine's need to develop its own domestic missile program.

WASHINGTON (NewsNation) — Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth issued a new directive to fast-track U.S. drone production and 'cut red tape,' he announced in a video posted to social media. A new Pentagon memo outlined the U.S. military's need to keep pace as global military drone production has skyrocketed lately, and the war between Russia and Ukraine has revealed the increasing importance of using more drones for modern warfare. Hegseth made the announcement of the major overhaul in U.S. military drone policy in a social media video where he can be seen flanked by operating drones. Hegseth said the Pentagon is cutting 'red tape' and speeding up production. He also said he wants service members from all branches of the military to be trained in drone operations. 'We were brought here to rebuild the military and match capabilities to the threats of today,' said Hegseth. 'So while our adversaries have produced millions of cheap drones before us, we were mired in bureaucratic red tape, not anymore.' In June, nearly a third of Moscow's strategic bomber fleet was destroyed or damaged with cheaply made drones that were snuck into Russian territory. Ukrainian officials say the covert operation took only a few hours. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said 117 drones were used in the operation in which four military airfields were attacked, resulting in the severe damage or destruction of 34% of Russia's fleet of air missile carriers.

Trump rips 'so-called' friends' attacks on Bondi, tells MAGA to move on from Epstein
WASHINGTON – President Donald Trump threw his full support behind Attorney General Pam Bondi in a furious social media post that lit into his "so-called 'friends'" in MAGA and told them to move on from fevered demands that she release court files related to disgraced financier and convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein. "They're all going after Attorney General Pam Bondi, who is doing a FANTASTIC JOB! We're on one Team, MAGA, and I don't like what's happening. We have a PERFECT Administration, THE TALK OF THE WORLD, and 'selfish people' are trying to hurt it, all over a guy who never dies, Jeffrey Epstein," Trump wrote on July 12 in a lengthy post on Truth Social. Trump loyalists have been berating Bondi incessantly since the Justice Department and FBI said this week that a "systematic review" of documents related to Epstein "revealed no incriminating 'client list.'" Bondi said earlier this year that the documents were "sitting on my desk right now to review" and promised that "everything's going to come out to the public." Defending her stance at a July 8 Cabinet meeting at the White House, Bondi told reporters: "I was asked a question about the client list and my response was, 'It's sitting on my desk to be reviewed,' meaning the file, not the client list." Trump took another tack. In his statement on social media this weekend, he alleged that the government documents could have been written by political opponents and critics such as former President Barack Obama and former FBI director James Comey, whom he fired during his first term. Epstein timeline: Trump's team promised transparency on Epstein. Here's what they delivered. "They created the Epstein Files, just like they created the FAKE Hillary Clinton/Christopher Steele Dossier that they used on me, and now my so-called 'friends' are playing right into their hands," Trump wrote. The dossier, assembled by former British spy Christopher Steele, contained salacious allegations about Trump, including alleged connections between the Republican's 2016 presidential campaign and Russia. Trump also argued in his post that current FBI Director Kash Patel "must be focused on investigating" allegations of voter fraud and other red meat issues for the base. Russia warns against targeting North Korea

He said Moscow respects North Korea's efforts to develop nuclear arms by using its own scientists amid recent military exercises involving the U.S., South Korean and Japanese forces, according to CNN. The U.S. and its South Korean and Japanese allies conducted a joint aerial training operation on the Korean Peninsula on Friday. Lavrov warned the United States and its regional allies against targeting North Korea and Russia, Newsweek reported on Saturday. "No one is considering using force against North Korea despite the military buildup around the country by the United States, South Korea and Japan," Lavrov said of the joint military exercise. "We respect North Korea's aspirations and understand the reasons why it is pursuing a nuclear development," Lavrov said. He said Moscow is aware that President Donald Trump recently expressed support for resuming talks with North Korea at the highest level. "We exchanged views on the situation surrounding the Ukrainian crisis," Lavrov told Russian state media outlet TASS. "Our Korean friends confirmed their firm support of all the objectives of the special military operation," he said of the Russian invasion of Ukraine. North Korea's Foreign Ministry earlier this week invitedLavrov to visit Pyongyang, which is preparing to deploy between 25,000 and 30,000 soldiers for Russia's continued invasion of Ukraine. North Korea last year deployed 11,000 soldiers to Russia to help repel a Ukrainian incursion in the Kursk region of Russia.
