Imposter govt website spreads fabricated poll ahead of Philippine midterm vote
It appears to show Azucena Huervas, currently the mayor of the province's Valencia city, ahead of four rival candidates including incumbent Governor Rogelio Roque.
"Good evening Bukidnon, this is a post from Radyo Pilipinas, an official survey," the Visayan-language caption to the graphic says, referring to the state-run radio station (archived link).
The post links to website claiming to be Radyo Pilipinas News.

Similar posts surfaced on Facebook as campaigning kicked off for the archipelago's Senate and candidates for so-called party-list seats.
Electioneering will kick into higher gear in March when candidates for House seats and thousands of local positions launch their bids for office (archived link).
'Deceitful article'
Radyo Pilipinas, however, has disowned the circulating graphic and branded the supposed survey results as "fake" in a statement on Facebook on February 14 (archived link).
"A deceitful article is spreading on Facebook, pretending to be from Radyo Pilipinas," the statement reads. "Do not be duped -- always verify information from official sources."
The genuine URL of Radyo Pilipinas is radyopilipinas.ph but its imposter site is hosted on a .com page (archived link).
The state radio also changed its logo in December 2024 but the bogus site still features the old one (archived link).

The graphic also contains numerous errors, for example misspelling the nickname of Governor Roque "Oneil" as "Oniel" -- and his party "Partido Federal ng Pilipinas" as "Partido Rederal ng Pilipinas" (archived link).
Azucena Huervas, who the fabricated poll claims is leading the race, separately denounced the circulating posts.
"We do not condone misinformation of any kind," reads a on her official Facebook page
AFP has previously debunked another fake survey that misused the name of local polling organisation.

Ukraine to receive Patriot air defence systems via NATO, Trump says
US President Donald Trump said on Friday that Washington will send weapons, including Patriot air defence systems, to Ukraine via NATO. "We're going to be sending Patriots to NATO and then NATO will distribute that," Trump told US TV channel CBS News, adding that the alliance would pay for the systems. The Patriot missile system can detect and intercept a wide range of oncoming air targets and is regarded as one of the world's best, at a time when Moscow is increasing its nightly missile and drone attacks amid its all-out war against Ukraine, now well into its fourth year. Speaking at the Ukraine Recovery Conference in Rome on Thursday, Ukraine's President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said that Germany would pay for two of the systems, while Norway has agreed to supply one. Other European partners have also said they are prepared to help, Zelenskyy said. US Secretary of State Marco Rubio said on Friday that some of the US-made weapons that Ukraine is seeking are already deployed with NATO allies in Europe. Those weapons could be transferred to Ukraine quickly, with European countries buying replacements from the US, he said. "It's a lot faster to move something, for example, from Germany to Ukraine than it is to order it from a (US) factory and get it there," Rubio told reporters during a visit to Kuala Lumpur. Zelenskyy said on Thursday that talks with Trump have been "very constructive," even though the administration has given conflicting signals about its readiness to provide more vital military support. A new bipartisan US sanctions package aimed at forcing Russia to the negotiating table could go to a vote in the Senate before the August recess, its backers, Republican Senator Lindsey Graham and Democratic Senator Richard Blumenthal, told the AP on Thursday. The bill calls for a 500% tariff on goods from countries that continue to buy Russian oil, gas, uranium and other exports. It takes aim at nations such as China and India, which account for roughly 70% of Russia's energy trade and bankroll much of its war effort. After repeated Russian drone and missile onslaughts on Kyiv, authorities announced on Friday that they are establishing a comprehensive drone interception system under a project called Clear Sky. The project includes a 260-million-hryvnia (approximately €5.3 million) investment in interceptor drones, operator training, and new mobile response units, according to Tymur Tkachenko, the head of the Kyiv military administration. Zelenskyy appealed to foreign partners to help Ukraine accelerate the production of the newly developed interceptor drones, which have proven successful against Iranian-made Shahed drones and their Russian variant, the Geran-2. "We found a solution, as a country, scientists and engineers found a solution. That's the key," he said. "We need financing. And then, we will intercept." Strikes on Kharkiv Meanwhile, a Russian drone barrage targeted the centre of Kharkiv on Friday, injuring nine people and damaging a maternity hospital in Ukraine's second-largest city, officials said. Mothers with newborns were evacuated to a different medical facility, Kharkiv Mayor Ihor Terekhov wrote on Telegram, but didn't say whether anyone at the hospital was among the injured. Russia's recent escalation of long-range Shahed drone attacks on Ukrainian cities, which often also include ballistic and cruise missiles as well as powerful glide bombs, has brought renewed urgency to efforts to improve Ukraine's air defences after more than three years of war. June brought the highest monthly civilian casualties of the past three years, with 232 people killed and 1,343 wounded, the UN human rights mission in Ukraine said on Thursday. Russia launched 10 times more drones and missiles in June than in the same month last year, it said. Russia has reportedly expedited drone production, and Zelenskyy stated that Moscow plans to manufacture up to 1,000 drones per day.

Posts falsely claim UK issued warrant for South African opposition leader
'Why is this news not headline news?' reads a Facebook post published on June 6, 2025, in Afrikaans, adding a headline: 'President Ramaphosa Breaks Silence on UK Arrest Warrant for Julius Malema: Unbelievable.' Malema is known for his controversial stances, including singing 'Kill the Boer', a song originally chanted during apartheid in protest against the brutal system of white-minority rule (archived here). The post, which features the date "June 5, 2025", is styled as a news article, and claims that 'Ramaphosa has publicly addressed — for the first time — the international arrest warrant issued for Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) leader Julius Malema by the United Kingdom,' reads the opening paragraph. According to the post, Ramaphosa was 'speaking at the Union Buildings in Pretoria during a joint press conference with visiting EU dignitaries,' where he said that his office had been 'formally briefed by the Department of International Relations and Cooperation (DIRCO) and the South African Police Service (SAPS) regarding the UK's legal request'. Image Screenshot of the false Facebook post, published on June 6, 2025 The post claims that Malema's purported warrant is in connection with "an alleged money laundering and organised financial crime investigation" involving a British-based shell company. Ramaphosa is also quoted as purportedly saying: 'South Africa has treaties and cooperative frameworks with the United Kingdom. If a formal extradition request is received, it will be reviewed through the proper judicial channels.' The post includes a link to a YouTube video with audio narrating the same text -- along with other claims, including that large-scale protests are planned in the country's main cities in support of Malema. The footage consists of stock images of Ramaphosa and one of Malema in a courtroom dock. Numerous versions of the claim have been replicated across multiple platforms, including TikTok and X. No press conference The YouTube channel that posted the video has a disclaimer that reads: "This channel is all about SATIRE and PARODY — meaning nothing here is meant to be taken seriously.' Image Screenshot of the disclaimer on the YouTube channel There have been no reports about any arrest warrant issued by the UK for Malema. On July 10, 2025, the British High Commission in South Africa told AFP Fact Check it 'is not aware of any arrest warrants of pending legal requests related to Julius Malema.' South Africa's foreign ministry spokesman, Chrispin Phiri, called the Facebook post 'fake' in a WhatsApp message on June 17, 2025, adding that there was 'no such thing'. The Delegation of the European Union to South Africa also refuted claims of a meeting with Ramaphosa on June 5, 2025. 'Please note that the Delegation of the European Union did not have a meeting at the Union Buildings on 5 June,' a spokesperson wrote in an email to AFP Fact Check on June 23, 2025. Social media posts published on the same day as the false post show the EU Ambassador to South Africa, Sandra Kramer, meeting with provincial agricultural minister Vuyiswa Ramokgopa at the EU's Pretoria office (archived here). South Africa's presidency typically announces Ramaphosa's schedule through advisories or social media, but there were no reports or public appearances for the head of state on that date (archived here). UK visa denial Malema is entangled with the UK over visa issues, which have made international headlines (archived here). The UK denied Malema a visa on two separate occasions, the first when he was invited to lecture at Cambridge University (archived here). 'The British authorities have denied me a visa to London for the Cambridge Conference this weekend, providing no substantial justification,' read Malema's X post on May 7, 2025 (archived here). The British authorities have denied me a visa to London for the Cambridge Conference this weekend, providing no substantial justification. It is clear to me that this is an attempt to silence a dissenting political perspective. We are currently at the OR airport, as we were… — Julius Sello Malema (@Julius_S_Malema) May 7, 2025 The BBC reported that British High Commissioner to South Africa Antony Phillipson apologised at the time, citing a delay due to bank holidays. However, Malema's visa was denied again in June (archived here). According to an X post by the Economic Freedom Fighters, the UK letter said his presence 'would not be conducive to the public good' due to his vocal support for the Palestinian armed group Hamas and continued calls for 'the slaughter of white people'. Official Letter from UK Home Office Denying CIC Julius Malema Visa Application — Economic Freedom Fighters (@EFFSouthAfrica) June 19, 2025 A British official confirmed the content of the report to AFP on condition of anonymity but would not give details (archived here). The only public references to a Malema arrest warrant date back to 2012, when South African police issued an arrest warrant for the politician after media reports linked him to fraud and corruption charges related to a family trust (archived here). The contract was for the construction of roads in Malema's home province, Limpopo, when he was still the head of the African National Congress's youth wing and was accused of "improperly" receiving money for the contract. However, in 2015, a South African judge threw out the case (archived here). By then, following his expulsion from the ANC, Malema had formed the radical-left Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) political party.

Image showing Nigeria's ex-president Goodluck Jonathan shaking hands with Donald Trump is AI-generated
A Facebook post published on June 11, 2025, features a screenshot from an Instagram account named 'goodluck_ebelejonathan' with a picture that appears to show Jonathan shaking hands with Trump. The text in the Instagram screenshot reads: 'Since our current leaders are pretending to sleep, we pray that we will get our good leadership back in 2027; your choice will determine the betterment of our future." Image Screenshot of the false Facebook post, taken on July 8, 2025. The image has also been shared in other posts on X, Facebook, and Instagram. Some posts also include a short video clip showing the same scene. Several local media outlets picked up the Instagram post and reported it as genuine, as seen here and here. Goodluck Jonathan was Nigeria's president between 2010 and 2015. He conceded defeat to Muhammadu Buhari in the 2015 election (archived here). He is still eligible to contest for office, having served only one term. However, the photo and video showing Jonathan shaking hands with Trump were generated using artificial intelligence, and the post attributed to the former Nigerian president did not come from official sources. AI-generated images In the purported video from the meeting, Jonathan's fingers disappear upon shaking hands with Trump, a sign that the video was created using artificial intelligence. The video also contains other errors common with AI-generated content, including cartoonish faces and blurred faces in the background. Image Errors spotted in the video, including disappearing hands (circled in red), cartoonish faces (circled in yellow) and a blurred face in the background (circled in green) The still image shared on social media corresponds to the first frame of this AI-generated video. There were also no news reports of a meeting between the two politicians in either local or international media. The White House did not announce any meeting nor did photo archives from the White House contain any pictures of Trump receiving Jonathan at the Oval Office (archived here). Furthermore, Ikechukwu Eze, Jonathan's spokesperson, told AFP Fact Check that the account that posted the image did not belong to Nigeria's ex-president. 'The former president does not have an Instagram account,' Eze said.
