Joshua Jackson seeks emergency custody order modification against ex-wife Jodie Turner-Smith over daughter's schooling

Time of India03-06-2025

The custody clash between
Joshua Jackson
and his ex-wife Jodie Turner-Smith over their daughter Juno has taken a messy turn. The actor has filed an emergency court motion, claiming that Turner-Smith made a major parenting decision without his consent.
School switch sparks dispute
On Friday, 30 June, the 'Dawson's Creek' star submitted a legal request to modify the custody order he shares with Turner-Smith. As reported by Us Weekly, according to court documents, Jackson alleged that Turner-Smith moved their five-year-old daughter Juno to a different school without consulting him.
Jackson, 46, stated in the documents that Turner-Smith believes it is 'no big deal to force Juno to start over with a new school.'
He also raised concerns that 'Jodie is attempting to create a scenario where Juno travels with her rather than attending a traditional school.'
Seeking stability for Juno
In response, Jackson is asking the court to keep Juno enrolled at her current school for the next year. He's also requesting that both parents must approve any future changes to her schooling together, ensuring decisions are made jointly.
This legal move comes not long after Jackson and Turner-Smith finalised their divorce.
The pair, who welcomed Juno in April 2020, had previously agreed to share joint legal and physical custody.
Divorce finalised but tensions remain
Their divorce settlement was signed on 3 May. As reported by Us Weekly, neither party will receive spousal support. Interestingly, the couple listed different dates for their separation – Turner-Smith said they split on 13 September 2023, while Jackson marked it as 30 September 2023.
The split was officially confirmed in October 2023, when Turner-Smith filed for divorce after over four years of marriage, citing 'irreconcilable differences' as the cause.
Both focused on being good parents
Despite the recent legal tensions, both Jackson and Jodie have been vocal about putting their daughter first. Speaking to Entertainment Tonight in November 2024, she said, 'It's just about center the children and that's all you can do.
Nobody gets everything right but at least when you know you're focused on the right thing, you know you're gonna do your best.'
Jackson echoed a similar sentiment during an April episode of the podcast Dinner's On Me. 'If I ever did anything to estrange my daughter from myself, I would be in duress,' he shared. 'I actually can't conceive of it because I don't even wanna think of the pain that that would be.'
He continued, 'Regardless of how messy the divorce is, beautiful the divorce is, easy [or] hard the co-parenting is … I think this generation of dads is understanding, like, 'I need to be here. It's gonna be hard, but this is important, and I've got to do this.' It's my job — shared with my ex-wife — to do everything that we can to nurture you, cultivate you and give you all the tools that you need in life.'

Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie to fight trial about the French winery for 2 weeks; the ex-couple agrees with the timing

Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie , the Mr. & Mrs. Smith actors, have been at each other's throats for a long time. The infamous rivalry will now transform into a courtroom drama, as the fight for the French winery is going to continue. Pitt vs Jolie trial to begin... According to US Weekly, Brad Pitt revealed in the court documents that the expected time for the jury trial will last for a fortnight, regarding the lawsuit he has against his ex-wife. The court documents also reveal that Jolie has agreed to the given time period. However, the date of the trial is yet to be determined, as several of the motions are yet to be decided. The 'F1' star has anointed this case as 'complicated' as many foreign parties are involved in the matter, and the defence has filed many cross claims in the case. What is the mess around the Miraval winery? The Chateau Miraval winery was bought by Pitt and Jolie when they were still head over heels for each other in 2008. When the disastrous and allegedly abusive private jet incident occurred, the couple decided to part ways but keep the winery to pass it down to their 6 children. However, in 2022, Pitt filed a lawsuit against his ex-wife, claiming that she did not keep her promise of not selling their shares of the winery without informing the other person. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Secure Your Child's Future with Strong English Fluency Planet Spark Learn More Undo He told the court that he had spent a ton of money and effort on turning Miraval into a successful winery. In 2021, Jolie had approached Pitt to tell him that she wanted out of the Miraval shares through a private email, which the 'Fight Club' actor submitted to the court as one of the documents. 'In the past four years I have seen lots of inconsiderate behavior, money spent in ways that I would not have approved, and decisions made that I was not consulted on,' she wrote in the mail, before adding, 'I've been hurt by decisions that have been made that show no interest in sharing the business or changing it fundamentally into something that would be healthier for our children. ' While the ex-couple did work on buying her shares, Jolie claims that Pitt tried to make her sign an NDA, which would cover up years of abuse. Pitt denied the claim, and his lawyer argues that the accusations are a sham in the pretext of her selling the shares to a Russian billionaire, striking a deal with a third party.
