U.S. Coast Guard search for 1 after small airplane crashes in northern California
The Coast Guard received a notification at around 10:55 p.m. that a twin-engine Beechcraft with three people onboard crashed approximately 300 yards away from the Point Pinos Lighthouse off the Pacific coast. The aircraft originally took off from San Carlos Airport in San Mateo County.
"Station Monterey launched a 29-foot Response Boat-Small crew, which arrived on scene approximately 15 minutes after notification," the Coast Guard said in a news release. "Watchstanders at Coast Guard Sector San Francisco also coordinated the launch of an Air Station San Francisco MH-65 Dolphin helicopter air crew."
Two of the three people were found "unresponsive," the Coast Guard said, not specifying the meaning of unresponsive in this case.
The search continues for the remaining person, the Coast Guard said. Local agencies, including the Pacific Grove Police Department, Monterey Fire Department and San Mateo County Sheriff's Office, are assisting in the search.
"Currently this is an active investigation, so we are not releasing information at this time," Pacific Grove police told NBC News.

Grand Haven Coast Guard Festival visitor, 97, rescued after fall into river
Activities at the Grand Haven Coast Guard Festival in West Michigan unexpectedly included an actual rescue Tuesday after a tour visitor fell into the Grand River. The 97-year-old man who was rescued had fallen about 6 feet from a deck into the river after losing his balance while using his walker, the Coast Guard Great Lakes District reported on social media. He was taking part in ship tours at Escanaba Park at the time of the fall, which happened about 7 p.m. Seaman Joseph Turk, who is a crew member with the Coast Guard Cutter Katmai Bay, immediately jumped into the water to assist the visitor. Turk helped keep the man afloat by treading water for over 20 minutes while crews worked from the deck to reach them with appropriate equipment and rescue the victim. The man had injuries to his right hand and leg as a result of his fall, and was taken by EMS to Trinity Health Grand Haven Hospital for treatment. Turk has been in the Coast Guard for less than a year, the report said. The Grand Haven Coast Guard Festival started July 25 and continues through August 3, honoring the U.S. Coast Guard with a slate of activities that includes ship tours, parades, live music, fireworks, a car show and family activities. More than 350,000 people attend the event each year, the festival organizers said.

Video shows Coast Guard rescuing 3 from capsized vessel on Lake Michigan in Sturgeon Bay
United States Coast Guard crews rescued three people from a capsized vessel on Lake Michigan on Monday. Coast Guard Sector Northern Great Lakes received a call around 1:27 p.m. Monday of a capsized 16-foot vessel with three people in the water in Sturgeon Bay. A small boat crew from the St. Ignace Coast Guard Station and an MH-60 Jayhawk helicopter crew from the Coast Guard Air Station in Traverse City responded to the rescue. Members of the helicopter crew rescued three from the water, while the station crew confirmed that there was no debris, hazards or pollution to navigate, officials said. The three were taken to Pellston Regional Airport, where they were then transferred to EMS for further medical evaluation. "The crew operated with outstanding teamwork, which is a result of the numerous hours spent training alongside station personnel and assets like Station St. Ignace for moments like these," said Lt. j.g. Nicholas Betts, Air Station Traverse City Public Affairs Officer. "Thanks to the survivors for wearing life jackets — which made locating and rescuing them far more efficient — the crews were able to save three lives today."

Monterey County plane crash kills all 3 on board
The United States Coast Guard said three people were recovered and found unresponsive after a plane crash in Monterey County on Saturday. The Monterey County Sheriff's Office later said the three were dead. Search and rescue crews recovered the three passengers on Sunday, the Coast Guard said. Just before 11 p.m., the Coast Guard Station in Monterey was alerted to a twin-engine Beechcraft that had crashed between 200-300 yards off Point Pinos. The Coast Guard said three people were on board. A boat and helicopter crew responded to the scene and located the Beechcraft. One person was found around 3 a.m., the Coast Guard said. The other two were found inside the aircraft later Sunday morning, officials said. According to the Coast Guard, the plane took off from the San Carlos airport. Pacific Grove Police said they received calls about the plane crash after 10 p.m. and were told it crashed near the coastline of Asilomar State Beach. One Pacific Grove resident said he heard a plane circling his neighborhood and then a loud thump about 30 seconds later. The Monterey County Sheriff's Office identified the three victims as 60-year-old Steve Eugene Clatterbuck of Salinas, 36-year-old James Vincent of Monterey and 44-year-old Jamie Lee Tabscott of Monterey. The office said in a statement that, "The family and friends of the deceased have expressed that they wish to extend their gratitude for the outpouring of support from the community. They ask for privacy during this difficult time." Pacific Grove Police, the Monterey Fire Department, Monterey County Sheriff's Office and San Mateo County Sheriff's Office, Cal Fire and the Coast Guard were all at the scene. The National Transportation Safety Board is investigating the crash.
