These latest routes come as Indonesia targets 16 million international arrivals in 2025, with Malaysia consistently ranked among the top source markets. The timing also aligns with the reopening of Sultan Mahmud Badaruddin II Airport (Palembang) and Jenderal Ahmad Yani Airport (Semarang) for international services, making AirAsia the first international airline to return to both cities.

Sabah's first large-scale solar-powered federal building

KOTA KINABALU (July 23): The Sabah Federal Government Administrative Complex (KPKPS) has become the first federal building in the state to utilize large-scale green solar energy. Federal Secretary of Sabah, Datuk Seri Rosli Isa, stated that the completed project will result in significant savings in electricity costs and promote the use of green solar energy in Sabah. 'This marks a major milestone in the management of government buildings. With the installation of a one Megawatt (MW) solar power system, the Sabah Federal Government Administrative Complex is now the first federal government building in Sabah to operate using green solar energy on such a large scale. 'This project was realized through a one-off allocation of RM6 million from the Ministry of Economy, channeled through the Sabah Economic Development and Investment Authority (SEDIA). 'The Facility Management Division of the Ministry of Works (KKR) acted as the implementing agency, while on-site execution was handled by the concession company, Kombinasi Saudagar Sdn Bhd. 'This design is not only practical but also reflects a commitment to eco-friendly technology,' he said during a media interview after officiating the project handover ceremony for the solar system installation at KPKPS on Tuesday. He added that besides cost savings, the project also contributes to a greener, cleaner and more resilient national development. 'Financially, the system is expected to reduce monthly electricity bills by up to RM71,000, contributing to total savings of RM4,260,000 over five years. 'This investment in green technology proves that sustainable approaches can yield long-term economic returns. 'The project aligns with the government's Renewable Energy Technology Policy and aims to reduce CO2 carbon footprints, supporting the goal of a greener, cleaner and more resilient nation. 'May this initiative catalyze more green technology projects for the prosperity of Sabah and the well-being of Malaysia as a whole,' he explained. The RM6 million one-off project, funded by the Ministry of Economy, took eight months to complete, starting from October 2024. Also present were Datuk Dr Roland Chia Ming Shen, director of Sabah Oil & Gas Development Corporation, and Helene Remeo, secretary of the Facility Management Division at the Ministry of Works.

Pro teams ready to release cyclists for SEA Games if funding issue is resolved
Malaysia National Cycling Federation (MNCF) president Datuk Amarjit Singh Gill. PETALING JAYA: The National Sports Council (NSC) now holds the key after Malaysia Pro Cycling (MPC) and Terengganu Cycling Team (TSG) agreed to release their riders for the SEA Games in Thailand this December, following persuasion from the Malaysian National Cycling Federation (MNCF). All parties convened in Bukit Jalil today, with MNCF President Datuk Amarjit Singh Gill leading the meeting, alongside several top officials from the association. Malaysia Pro Cycling (MPC) was represented by Sporting Director Sayuti Zahit, while Terengganu Cycling Team (TSG) Chief Operating Officer Nasiruddin Wan Idrus attended virtually. Although the four-hour meeting ended without a conclusive decision, both teams expressed willingness to release their riders for the biennial Games, provided their previous requests are met. Amarjit viewed the meeting positively, noting the NSC's willingness to negotiate additional funding to support the teams' preparations for the SEA Games in Thailand. As a next step, the MNCF has given both teams a one-week deadline to submit a detailed breakdown of their proposed budgets, estimated to be around RM250,000 per team. 'We've asked both TSG and MPC to clearly outline their actual needs, including logistics, participation fees, and any additional or top-up costs required for the SEA Games. 'Once we receive the detailed budget, we can then prepare a working paper to be submitted to the NSC for consideration. The NSC has indicated their readiness to review the request for additional funding based on the proposed budget,' said Amarjit after the meeting. Amarjit believes the requests made by MPC and TSG are reasonable, involving essential technical matters such as spare parts, nutritional supplements, centralised training expenses, and other related costs. Once the MNCF receives the full breakdown of these expenses, he plans to engage the NSC again to secure the additional funding needed. Sayuti, while welcoming the meeting, said he is still waiting for a firm decision from the NSC at a follow-up meeting once the list requested by the MNCF is submitted. 'We're all looking for a solution, and we're hoping for a better outcome than before. Our requests remain the same, and we're appealing to the NSC to give us some room so we can find common ground and reach a compromise,' he said. So far, nine riders have been listed to represent the country in the road race event, comprising four from TSG, four from MPC, and one national rider. In total, Malaysia's cycling contingent for the SEA Games in Thailand will consist of 33 athletes across four disciplines: road (14 riders: nine men and five women), mountain bike (five riders: three men and two women), BMX (four riders: two men and two women), and track (11 riders: nine men and two women).

Datuk businesswoman claims trial for making false statement
KUANTAN: A 46-year-old businesswoman with a Datuk title pleaded not guilty at the Sessions Court here today to making false statements regarding the resignation of three company directors about two years ago. Azjuriyahti Azlan claimed trial after the charge was read before Judge Noor Aisah Mohamed. She was accused of allowing a company secretary to submit a false statement concerning the resignation of three directors in a 'Section 58 Notification of Change in the Register of Directors, Managers and Secretaries' document. The offence allegedly occurred at a premises along Jalan Gambut on June 20, 2023. Azjuriyahti was charged under Section 591(2)(a) of the Companies Act 2016, which provides for a maximum penalty of 10 years' imprisonment, a fine not exceeding RM3 million, or both, upon conviction. Companies Commission of Malaysia deputy public prosecutor Abdul Hadi Abdul Muti appeared for the prosecution, while lawyer Muhammad Nazrin Mohd Seth represented the accused. Hadi proposed bail be set at RM30,000 with one surety, but Nazrin argued that the amount was excessive. Noor Aisah then set bail at RM8,000 and fixed August 28 for mention. Last month, the same court issued an arrest warrant for Azjuriyahti after she failed to appear for a hearing. Meanwhile, Noor Aisah also issued an arrest warrant today for Datuk Seri Mohd Nazrul Izad Mohd Arsad, 46, after he failed to attend court proceedings to face a charge under Section 591(2)(a) of the Companies Act 2016 for allegedly making a false statement. He was scheduled to jointly face the charge with Azjuriyahti. Abdul Hadi applied for the arrest warrant after Nazrul Izad failed to appear in court, citing health reasons. He also requested Aug 28 to be fixed for mention. Noor Aisah granted the application, issuing the warrant and instructing the accused to submit a medical certificate from a government hospital to explain his absence on Aug 28.
