Man guilty of decapitating and dismembering two men before dumping remains in suitcases on Clifton Bridge

Independent2 days ago
A man has been found guilty of murdering two men before dumping their remains in suitcases near Clifton Suspension Bridge in Bristol.
Yostin Andres Mosquera, 35, was found guilty at Woolwich Crown Court of murdering civil partners Albert Alfonso, 62, and Paul Longworth, 71, in July last year in their flat in Scotts Road, Shepherd's Bush, west London. He then dumped their remains in suitcases near Clifton Suspension Bridge.
Mosquera, who was also staying with the couple, 'decapitated and dismembered' them, froze parts of their remains and brought the rest in suitcases to Clifton Suspension Bridge in Bristol, according to the prosecution.
He is alleged to have repeatedly stabbed Mr Alfonso, who suffered injuries to his torso, face and neck, while Mr Longworth was attacked with a hammer to the back of his head and his skull shattered, jurors at Woolwich Crown Court heard.
Mr Alfonso enjoyed 'extreme sex' and Mosquera, a Colombian national whom he met online years earlier, was part of that world, jurors heard.
Mr Alfonso was stabbed to death during a filmed session, with footage shown in court recording Mosquera singing and dancing in the aftermath of the attack.

Families of the Idaho students Bryan Kohberger stabbed to death are set to see him sentenced

A judge is expected to order Bryan Kohberger to serve four life sentences without parole this week for the brutal stabbing deaths of four University of Idaho students nearly three years ago. Wednesday's sentencing hearing will give the families of Xana Kernodle, Madison Mogen, Ethan Chapin and Kaylee Goncalves the opportunity to describe the anguish they've felt since their loved ones were killed in the early morning hours of Nov. 13, 2022. Kohberger was a graduate student at Washington State University when he broke into a nearby rental home through a kitchen sliding door and killed the four friends who appeared to have no connection with him. Police initially had no suspects, and the killings terrified the normally quiet community in the small, western Idaho city of Moscow. Some students at both universities left mid-semester, taking the rest of their classes online because they felt unsafe. But investigators had a few critical clues. A knife sheath left near Mogen's body had a single source of male DNA on the button snap, and surveillance videos showed a white Hyundai Elantra near the rental home around the time of the murders. Police used genetic genealogy to identify Kohberger as a possible suspect, and accessed cellphone data to pinpoint his movements the night of the killings. Online shopping records showed Kohberger had purchased a military-style knife months earlier, along with a sheath like the one at the home. Kohberger was arrested in Pennsylvania about six weeks after the killings. He initially stood silent when asked to enter a plea, so a judge entered a 'not guilty' plea on his behalf. Both the investigation and the court case drew widespread attention. Discussion groups proliferated online, members eagerly sharing their theories and questions about the case. Some self-styled armchair web-sleuths pointed fingers at innocent people simply because they knew the victims or lived in the same town. Misinformation spread, piling additional distress on the already-traumatized community. As the criminal case unfolded, Latah County Prosecutor Bill Thompson announced that he would seek the death penalty if Kohberger was convicted. The court-defense team, led by attorney Anne Taylor, challenged the validity of the DNA evidence, unsuccessfully pushed to get theories about possible 'alternate perpetrators' admitted in court, and repeatedly asked the judge to take the death penalty off of the table. But those efforts largely failed, and the evidence against Kohberger was strong. With an August trial looming, Kohberger reached a plea deal. Prosecutors agreed to drop their efforts to get a death sentence in exchange for Kohberger's guilty plea to four counts of first-degree murder and one count of burglary. Both sides agreed to a proposed sentence of four consecutive life sentences without parole, plus an additional 10 years for the burglary charge. Kohberger also waived his right to appeal any issues in the case.

Georgia football recruit, 17, arrested over 'violent driving incident'... days before alleged accomplice is killed

Georgia football recruit Chace Calicut was one of two teens arrested this month over their alleged involvement in a violent driving incident - just days before his accused accomplice was shot and killed at a pool party. According to Fox 26 in Houston, Calicut and a fellow 17-year-old were charged with two counts of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon after the incident on July 6, which was a mere nine days after he committed to the Bulldogs. The four-star cornerback recruit, who is the No 114 player overall in the 2026 recruiting class, committed to the University of Georgia's football team on June 27. The alleged driving incident nine days later is said to have occurred in Calicut's home city of Houston, where he currently plays for North Shore High School. Court documents state that he is accused of driving in front of an unidentified male teen driver, who had an unnamed female passenger in his car at the time, and hitting his brakes to force the other male to slam on his own in a bid to avoid a crash, as per Fox 26. The other male then attempted to drive around Calicut's vehicle to get away, only for the Georgia commit to allegedly pull up next to him and drive erratically in front of and next to him. Calicut's passenger - who was identified as 17-year-old Isaiah Brice Phillip - is then accused of holding a hangun out and pointing it toward the other vehicle. Update: the deceased male has been identified as Phillip, Isaiah Brice (17). — Ed Gonzalez (@SheriffEd_HCSO) July 23, 2025 After he was able to elude the car, it is also alleged that the unnamed male heard several gunshots and that another friend had seen Phillip shooting out of the window. Calicut and the other driver, who claims the football star had been threatening him for months, are believed to know each other from school. He and Phillip were reportedly arrested and charged on July 18. And just over two weeks on from the alleged driving incident, Harris County Sheriff Ed Gonzalez has announced that Phillip was killed in a shooting that occured in the area on Sunday. Harris County officials said multiple shooters fired into a crowd of around 25-30 teens between the ages of 15 and 17 years old at a pool party on Liberty River Drive, with Phillip one of three who was hit. He was pronounced dead at the scene. A 15-year-old girl was taken by ambulance to a local emergency room and then by Life Flight. The third person, also 15, was taken to hospital. Calicut is said to have had his first court appearance on July 22nd, where a judge set his bond at $20k.
