Millions of Miami Heat memorabilia stolen in alleged heist
NBA analyst Amin Elhassan told the Dan LeBatard Show Monday (July 29) described the incident was "perhaps one of the largest heists of this kind," in which millions of Miami Heat merchandise were stolen.
"This one concerns memorabilia. Authenticated memorabilia stolen from the Miami Heat, and sold for many, many, many, many, many millions of dollars," Elhassan said per a Sports Illustrated report.
According to Elhassan, he claims that not just one person is behind this heist and that they had insider knowledge.
"It was described to me, this is one of the largest, if not the largest, memorabilia heist in the history of this country in any sport," Elhassan continued. "Some of the people involved include a Miami police officer and someone with ties to the NBA."
Elhassan went on to explain that key players' jerseys, such as LeBron James, Dwyane Wade, Shaquille O'Neal, and Chris Bosh, could have been sold on both the regular and black markets. However, it hasn't been confirmed which, if any, of those players' jerseys were sold. Timless pieces, such as NBA Finals jerseys, were also among those stolen, according to the NBA analyst.
"Game worn [NBA] Finals stuff, and this person was taking them and selling them both within the regular market and within the black market," Elhassan said. "What red flagged within the memorabilia committee is you never see people with this much stuff, right? You might get a game-worn jersey, but to get, like, a game worn, full set, NBA Finals for multiple players?"
The Miami Heat went to the NBA Finals seven times: 2006, 2011, 2012, 2013, 2014, 2020, and 2023. The franchise has won three times overall in 2006, 2012, and 2013.
It's unclear if the incident is under investigation at this time or when it exactly occurred.

Damian Lillard announces he's taking over as general manager of Weber State basketball
Damian Lillard is staying true to his roots this offseason. Less than two weeks after the team he spent his first 11 NBA seasons with officially welcomed him home with an introductory press conference, Lillard announced he's going to take over as the general manager of his college alma mater. The Portland Trail Blazers star broke the news Saturday in Ogden, Utah, where he hosted the Weber State Basketball Alumni Classic for the sixth time. "It's something that, my relationship with coach [Eric] Duft and this program means a lot to me, and seeing the success of the program means a lot to me," Lillard said at the event, per the Standard-Examiner. "I feel like I can do a lot to help the program be successful, to help the players even individually continue to grow their careers past college, that's something that I'm passionate about." Lillard played for Weber State from 2008-12. During his senior season, he averaged 24.5 points per game while shooting 44.6% from the field, including 40.9% from 3. in the process, he won Big Sky Player of the Year for the second time and became a third-team All-American. The Blazers selected him No. 6 overall in the 2012 NBA Draft. Lillard immediately made an impact, collecting NBA Rookie of the Year honors in 2013. He's a nine-time NBA All-Star and two-time NBA 3-Point Contest champion, and he has five top-10 MVP finishes. Lillard signed a three-year, $42 million deal with the Blazers after the Milwaukee Bucks waived him at the start of free agency. Lillard, 35, is still owed $113 million from the Bucks, whom he wasn't able to win a championship with in his two seasons in Milwaukee. Lillard ruptured his left Achilles in Game 4 of the team's first-round series against the Indiana Pacers. Lillard isn't expected to play during the 2025-26 season. In 2015, Lillard finished his degree at Weber State. His No. 1 jersey was retired two years later. Four years after that, in 2021, he was inducted into the WSU Athletics Hall of Fame. 'College athletics is constantly evolving, and building a strong program requires time, trust, and commitment," Lillard said in that same news release. "I believe in what this program represents and the culture that continues to grow at Weber State. The support of our community is vital to the program's success, and I am committed to playing a greater role in that effort. Report: Nets sign F Fanbo Zeng, formerly of the NBA G League Ignite
Zeng went undrafted in the 2022 NBA Draft, but since then, he has played for Beijing Shougang and has seen his stats improve. As Scotto said, Zeng is coming off his best season overseas. At one point in time, Zeng attended the NBPA Top 100 Camp in 2019, showing his potential. The Brooklyn Nets came into the 2025 NBA offseason with the goal of improving the roster for the 2025-26 season while taking chances on players that could be part of the franchise's future. Brooklyn has already made tweaks to the roster by adding veterans like Michael Porter Jr., but it seems that the team is also looking to take chances on young players as well. Per HoopsHype's Michael Scotto on Saturday, the Nets have agreed to a deal with forward Fanbo Zeng, who is currently considered one of the best prospects in the Chinese Basketball Association (CBA). Scotto notes in his report that Zeng is coming off his best season in the CBA as he averaged 14.7 points, 4.6 rebounds, 1.8 assists, and 1.6 blocks per game while shooting 53.0% from the field and 40.9% from three-point land. Zeng, 22, first made his name known within NBA Draft circles when he attended the National Basketball Players Association (NBPA) Top 100 Camp in 2019, a showcase intended to show some of the best high-school players in the country. In October of 2021, Jonathan Givony reported for ESPN that Zeng would sign with the NBA's G League Ignite program in anticipation of declaring for the 2022 NBA Draft. Following the conclusion of the 2021-22 season, Zeng played in 22 games for the Ignite, but averaged just 5.0 points and 2.3 rebounds per game while shooting 38.5% from the floor and 31.0% from deep. After going undrafted in the 2022 Draft, Zeng signed with the CBA's Beijing Shougang where he would spend the next three seasons and play some of his best basketball. With Zeng signing to the Nets' roster, that now puts Brooklyn's total of players at 20, including forward Ziaire Williams, center Day'Ron Sharpe, and forward Ricky Council IV, whose transactions are still pending as of this writing. During the offseason, teams are allowed to carry as many as 21 players before having to cut the roster down to 18 players broken into 15 players on standard NBA contracts and three players on Two-Way deals.
