Kuwait Ends Fee Exemptions for Work Visa Transfers
The new resolution modifies provisions of Ministerial Resolution No. 3 of 2024, specifically targeting the mechanism for issuing work permits, the transfer of workers recruited under these permits, and the applicable fees. A major change includes the repeal of Article Two of the 2024 resolution, which previously exempted certain activities and sectors from paying additional fees for work permits based on manpower needs, as approved by the Public Authority for Manpower.
Under the revised regulations, an additional fee of KD 150 will now be charged for each work permit granted on a case-by-case basis, eliminating earlier exemptions.
The revised fee structure will apply to the following sectors and entities:
Government-owned companies
Hospitals, clinics, and medical centers licensed by the Ministry of Health
Private universities, colleges, and schools
Foreign investors accredited by the Investment Promotion Authority
Sports clubs and federations
Public benefit associations, cooperative societies, labor unions, charities, and endowments
Licensed agricultural plots, including activities such as hunting, livestock pens, sheep and camel grazing
Commercial and investment properties
Industrial facilities and small-scale industries
Additionally, the resolution abolishes Article Five, which had required the Public Authority for Manpower's Board of Directors to conduct a one-year impact study on the implementation of the 2024 decision. This move effectively cancels the need for a formal review and recommendation process previously mandated by the board. The decision reflects a broader effort by Kuwaiti authorities to standardize labor market practices and enhance regulatory oversight across the public and private sectors.

KUWAIT CITY, July 2: Kuwait has witnessed a noticeable shift in marriage trends during the first five months of 2025, with a significant decline in marriages between Kuwaiti men and non-Kuwaiti women, while unions between Kuwaiti citizens have seen a modest rise. According to official statistics, marriages between Kuwaiti men and expat women dropped by approximately 21% compared to the same period in 2024. A total of 236 such marriages were recorded this year, down from 297. In contrast, marriage contracts between Kuwaiti men and Kuwaiti women increased by 3%, rising to 2,101 from 2,046 during the same timeframe. The breakdown of cross-national marriages shows a decline across most categories. Marriages with Gulf women decreased to 75 cases from 96 last year. Marriages with women of unspecified nationality dropped to 33, down from 51. Kuwaiti marriages to Asian women halved, falling to 16 from 36, while those with European women dropped to six, down from ten. Only one marriage was recorded between a Kuwaiti man and an American woman in 2025, compared to four in 2024. However, not all international pairings declined. Marriages with Syrian, Iraqi, and Lebanese women saw increases. Kuwaiti-Syrian marriages rose to 25 from 17; those with Iraqi women increased to 18 from 16; and marriages to Lebanese women grew from 8 to 12. Meanwhile, marriage numbers remained steady for some nationalities. Kuwaiti men entered into 12 marriages with Jordanian women—the same as last year—and 9 with Egyptian women, unchanged from 2024. Bohra community holds Muharram ceremonies
KUWAIT: The Bohra community in Kuwait held a commemorative ceremony at Sulaiman Rabie Al-Mousawi Boys School in Daiya, with an additional gathering at the Bohra Community Center in Bneid Al-Qar, to reflect on the virtues of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) and the sacrifices of Imam Hussein (RA). In his address, Deputy Representative of the Bohra Sultan in Kuwait Mustafa Bhojawala highlighted the noble character and biography of the Prophet (PBUH), describing him as a symbol of mercy for all humanity. He also paid tribute to Imam Hussein (RA), grandson of the Prophet (PBUH), for his ultimate sacrifice in defense of truth and his steadfast commitment to upholding the principles of Islamic sharia.
