Faulty washing machine caused huge fire during live circus show

Daily Record07-07-2025
Crowds of customers watched the blaze take hold after they were told to evacuate.
A huge fire at a circus during a live performance, which forced the audience to evacuate, was started by a faulty washing machine, it has been revealed.
Big Kid Circus asked all punters to leave during the show at Warout Playing Fields in Glenrothes, Fife, on Thursday, July 3, after a lorry trailer burst into flames at the attraction at around 7pm.

Emergency services raced to the scene, with firefighters battling the blaze which started away from the big top tent. Nobody was injured and everybody was evacuated safely.

Images from the scene show a huge lorry metres from the giant circus style tent engulfed with ferocious flames and clouds of thick black smoke billowing into the air. Crowds of people can be seen watching the fire take hold.
Lisa McCann, service manager at Fife Council, said the local authority had been liaising with event organisers following the horror incident.
She told the BBC: "The fire originated from a faulty washing machine in a box van which was well away from the Big Top tent and any attendees.
"It was swiftly extinguished and thankfully there were no injuries. Scottish Fire and Rescue have said the area is now safe and events are going on as planned."

Thursday night's show was the fourth of 10 shows planned in the town.
A spokesperson for the Big Kid Circus previously told the Record: "The incident that occurred during the performance of the Big Kid Circus at Glenrothes.
"A vehicle parked outside the circus tent caught fire. Fortunately, we are relieved to report that no injuries have been reported, and all attendees were safely evacuated.
"Our team is currently conducting a thorough investigation to determine the cause of the fire. We are working closely with local authorities to ensure a comprehensive review."
A spokesperson for the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service also confirmed they received reports of a trailer fire at 7.04pm. Crews extinguished the fire in a lorry, and no casualties were reported.

Emmerdale legend in danger as Joe Tate sets out to destroy her

Joe Tate (Ned Porteous) is a man on a mission in Emmerdale. Ever since he broke Kim Tate's (Claire King) trust, Joe has been determined to rebuild their relationship. When Kim mentioned her grand plan to him a couple of days later, he was more than happy to be appointed assistant. Said plan is to buy all of the land that surrounds Home Farm, so the Tates can become more powerful and richer than ever before. It's quite the task, but both Joe and Kim are determined to make it work. With Robert Sugden (Ryan Hawley) currently refusing to budge with Annie's farmland, Joe turned his attention back to Moira Dingle (Natalie J Robb) in tonight's episode. Yesterday, he got word that she had another fine to pay post-slurry spill, and knew that was the exact moment to strike. Because Joe offered to buy Butlers Farm at a time Moira felt vulnerable, it seemed tempting to her. She could see the benefits of running the farm as a tenant, without the business stress alongside it. Moira had a conversation with Cain Dingle (Jeff Hordley) about this, and he said he will support her, whatever she decides to do. Very close to signing the contract offer, Moira then made a huge discovery. Outside the new stables, Joe was having a conversation with Noel, the man who told Moira yesterday that her appeal to the water company had been declined. Listening in on the conversation, Moira was disgusted to learn that Joe had paid Noel to deliberately give her bad news about the appeal. At Home Farm a while later, Moira arrived and confirmed to Joe that she absolutely won't be giving him Butlers Farm. Want to be the first to hear shocking EastEnders spoilers? Joe was incredibly frustrated that evening. Dawn Taylor (Olivia Bromley) assumed that without Moira and Robert's land, the plan couldn't go ahead. More Trending Er, wrong. Joe told her that he will get what he wants, and doesn't care who he destroys along the way. Bit of a red flag here Dawn, but ok. What will Joe do next in his attempt to get his hands on Butlers?
