
Teen motorcyclist killed in crash near Sibu Airport
SIBU (May 4): An 18-year-old motorcyclist was killed in a self-accident near Sibu Airport traffic lights intersection at Jalan Sibu-Durin here today.
According to Sibu police chief ACP Zulkipli Suhaili, the police received a report about the incident at 7.35am.
'Investigations at the scene revealed that the victim was heading towards Sibu Jaya from Kemuyang when he suddenly lost control of his motorcycle before it hit the central guardrail and fell onto the road.
'The victim, who suffered severe head injuries, was pronounced dead at the scene,' he said in a statement.
Zulkipli said the front of the victim's motorcycle was also severely damaged in the incident.

MPV driver arrested over crash that claimed life of 5-year-old pillion rider in Mukah

MUKAH (July 28): Police have confirmed the arrest of a local man in connection with a fatal road accident at KM 21 Mukah-Balingian Road near the Kampung Penipah junction on Friday (July 25). Mukah police chief DSP Muhamad Rizal Alias said the vehicle involved in the accident was also seized to assist with the investigation. 'The 31-year-old suspect, who was the driver of a white Perodua Alza multipurpose vehicle (MPV), was detained at around 2.30pm on July 27 after presenting himself at the Mukah District Traffic Police Station to lodge a report,' he said in a statement. The accident claimed the life of a five-year-old boy, who was riding pillion on a motorcycle. He suffered serious head injuries and died while receiving treatment at Mukah Hospital. The 17-year-old male motorcyclist sustained injuries to his face and legs but is reported to be in stable condition. Muhamad Rizal said the case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 for causing death by reckless or dangerous driving. Two dead after three motorcycles collide

It was learnt that two motorcycles were heading towards Cenderawasih from Embara Budi while another was in the opposite direction when it occurred at 11.30pm. District Police Chief, ACP Dzulbaharin Ismail said the Yamaha motorcycle rider was a 12-year-old Indonesian (no identification, aged obtained orally) with his 20-year-old Indonesian pillion rider, while the Yamaha Lagenda by an 18-year-old Indonesian. The Honda belonged to a 19-year-old. Preliminary investigation found the incident occurred when the Honda entered the opposite direction and crashed into the two Yamahas in the opposite direction. 'The crash caused the Yamaha's rider and his pillion rider to be thrown off the road shoulder while the Yamaha Lagenda's rider was dragged on the street. The Honda rider also fell off his machine. 'Impact of the crash resulted in the deaths of the 12-year-old Yamaha rider and Honda rider while the Yamaha's pillion rider suffered injuries,' he said. The Yamaha Lagenda rider escaped unhurt. Dzulbaharin said investigation is ongoing under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987. Police urged those who had witnessed the incident to contact Insp. 13 motorcycles seized, 57 summonses issued in Miri's 'Op Samseng Jalanan'
The motorcycles seized and their owners during the operation. MIRI (July 27): A total of 13 motorcycles were seized and 57 summonses issued during 'Op Samseng Jalanan' conducted at various locations here last night. Miri district police chief ACP Mohd Farhan Lee Abdullah said the operation, carried out by Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Division of Miri District Police Headquarters, took place at Jalan Bandaraya Miri, Jalan Marina Utama, Jalan Miri Bypass, Jalan Tanjong Lobang, Jalan Tudan, Jalan Permyjaya, Jalan Taman Tunku, and Jalan Canada Hill, from 10pm on July 26 until 3am on July 27. 'During the operation, 13 vehicles were inspected, and all of the motorcycles were seized under Section 60 of the Road Transport Act 1987 after being found modified from their original structure and for further inspection,' he said in a statement. He added that 13 individuals were also inspected and 57 PDRM (K) 257 summonses were issued for various traffic offences. Mohd Farhan said that similar operations will be carried out from time to time to ensure road users comply with traffic laws and regulations. He urged road users, especially motorcyclists, to ride responsibly and cautiously, avoid illegal vehicle modifications, and refrain from roadside gathering which can lead to congestion and noise disturbances.
