Connections looking to to see the real Falakeyah next time out
Having bolted up on her Wolverhampton debut in November, the Owen Burrows-trained filly looked every inch a top-class performer in the making when running away with Newmarket's Pretty Polly Stakes on her return to action in the spring.
After sidestepping the Oaks at Epsom and being ruled out of the French equivalent, Falakeyah dropped back to a mile for the Coronation Stakes, but ended up racing too enthusiastically for her own good on the front end before weakening in the home straight.
Angus Gold, racing manager for owners Shadwell, said: 'It was a pity, as I was very pleased with her before the race. She settled beforehand, I thought, she was good and calm in the ring and Jim (Crowley) said she went down brilliantly relaxed.
'I've only seen the replay once, but it looked to me like for the first 50 or 60 yards of the race she was OK and then when Hollie (Doyle, riding Duty First) came upsides her she just put her head in the air and took off basically. It just set her alight and that was it.
'On a hot day like that, she was never going to be able to keep going at that pace, so we'll just give her a bit of time. We didn't learn anything regarding distance or anything like that, all we learnt was she's not going to win races if she races like that.'
He added: 'We know she's considerably better than that, her work at home is very high class and that run didn't bare any resemblance to her work at home. We'll obviously have to try to settle her next time and maybe we'll have a look at something like the Nassau. We'll just see how everyone feels nearer the time.
'At home she settles beautifully and is quite happy to take a lead and doesn't fight the jockey, so we've just got to get her to do that on the racecourse if she's going to have any chance of finishing off her races.'

Lucu, the Bordeaux scrum-half, was outstanding, adding 15 points with the boot. But it was Toulouse's night - again. Bordeaux have the compensation of the European Champions Cup, which they won last month, but the Brennus Shield remains just out of reach.

Paul Pogba to take squad number worn by six Prem stars as return confirmed
Paul Pogba has confirmed his return to club football after nearly two years and the ex-Man Utd star will play for Ligue 1 side Monaco as he chases a recall to the France squad Former Manchester United star Paul Pogba will wear the number eight shirt at new club Monaco, it has been claimed. The French international has signed a two-year contract with the club, having been out of the game for nearly two years following a doping ban. Pogba, 32, left Juventus in late 2024 but didn't join another club before the end of the European season. Now, though, he has moved to the French Riviera for a shot at Ligue 1 and Champions League football. Monaco and Pogba confirmed the deal on Saturday in a video in which the player utters the words 'La Renaissance'. He joins a team who finished third in Ligue 1 last term, meaning they'll enter the Champions League at the league phase. He has joined a number of former Premier League players at Stade Louis II, including former Arsenal striker Flo Balogun and another ex-Gunners striker in Mika Biereth. However, there's set to be another Premier League sub-plot when it comes to his squad number. According to RMC Sport (via GFFN), Pogba will take the number eight shirt vacated by Libyan international Al-Musrati when his loan ends. It's a number which was once worn by Real Madrid and France star Aurelien Tchouameni, as well as a number of others familiar to English football fans. According to Transfermarkt, Youri Djorkaeff wore 8 for Monaco in the 90s - long before his Premier League spells at Boldon and Blackburn. In 1995-96 it was the turn of Sylvain Legwinski, who would later follow ex-Monaco boss Jean Tigana to Fulham. Ali Benarbia then had two seasons in the number eight shirt before leaving for Bordeaux in 1998. He would later move to England to join Manchester City, helping them win promotion to the Premier League in 2002. Fast forward to 2013, when Monaco splashed out on a number of big signings, and Joao Moutinho took the number. He kept the number in 2018, when Wolves came calling and offered him a Premier League opportunity. The following year, Youri Tielemens began the season with the number. He left for Leicester in January 2019, initially on loan, and it was Adrien Silva who ended up taking his number the following summer after moving in the opposite direction. Pogba isn't the only new arrival at Monaco this summer. Whirl denies Kalpana in pulsating Pretty Polly Stakes
The Group One event looked a match on paper between Andrew Balding's proven Group One performer Kalpana (5-6 favourite) and Aidan O'Brien's narrow Oaks second, and so it proved as the pair served up a Curragh Classic. Ryan Moore was quickly away dictating terms aboard the 13-8 second-favourite, with Colin Keane never far away aboard the Juddmonte-owned Kalpana and must have thought the race was his for the taking when Whirl was asked for maximum effort with two furlongs to run with Kalpana still travelling menacingly. However, Whirl was not for giving in and after a titanic tussle the Wootton Bassett filly pulled out extra inside the final furlong to shade a length and a quarter verdict and deny Juddmonte back-to-back victories in the feature event after Bluestocking 12 months ago. 'They got into a battle turning in and battling all the way up the straight like that at the Curragh takes some courage and they kept going together. Ryan said he felt 50 yards from the line that she had a look at the camera and he knew he had her then.' O'Brien was winning the Pretty Polly for the sixth time and reserved special praise for Moore, who was joining the list of great jockeys who have won the race three times. 'Ryan gave her a brilliant ride, he got the fractions absolutely spot on,' added O'Brien. You are trying to spread the stamina out over a mile and a quarter without stretching the elastic too long, but he got it absolutely spot on. 'He got the favourite to challenge him and this filly gets a mile and a half so there was no point turning it into a sprint. It was the plan to spread it out and let the two of them get together and see who was going to be the best. 'As they say 'let the best horse jump the ditch' after that. Two great jockeys, what can I say about Ryan, day in day out he's incredible. 'They went strong and the two of them went together. Ryan and Colin knew they were each other's dangers and they weren't going to give each other an inch, which they couldn't afford to. 'Those kind of races are few and far between. When you have that type of quality horse lining up and two riders like that. On ground like this, in a place like this, it's a very special weekend.' As for the future for his winner, O'Brien is inclined to keep an open mind, with Whirl's Epsom conqueror Minnie Hauk also up his sleeve for the season's major events. He said: 'She can go anywhere now this filly. She can come back here to the Oaks, she can go to the Nassau (at Goodwood). 'She's an unusual filly. She's tough and she's not even blowing there, her nostrils weren't even flaring. 'She's obviously a very high-class filly and it's very exciting. It's possible she's kept apart from Minnie Hauk, but the lads could let them run together in the Oaks. 'I'd imagine if Minnie Hauk comes back to the Oaks and she's well she'll be let go by herself and this filly could do other things. 'She's not slow either.'
