Top three things to know if you want to open a franchise restaurant
If you've ever wanted to be your own boss and start a business, becoming a franchisee within the Quick Service Restaurant (QSR) industry might be right for you. With customers focused increasingly on value, compelling menu items and convenience, QSR franchises are set to grow in 2025 according to industry data. Wendy's shares three key things to keep in mind if you've ever thought about opening your own restaurant.
1. Quick Service Restaurant Franchises are Expected to Grow
More than 204,000 QSR franchise-operated locations are projected to open this year alone. That's an increase of 2.2%, according to the International Franchise Association's 2025 Franchising Economic Outlook. What's driving the opportunity? Consumers are increasingly more selective in spending, focused on the perceived value and personalization over simply discounted prices. According to the IFA, QSRs and fast-casual brands offering superior quality-to-price ratios have been expected to outperform in 2025, maintaining their appeal to cost-conscious consumers.
2. Restaurant Brands are Offering Support and Incentives
Aspiring QSR franchise operators have many choices when choosing to grow with the industry, including evaluating brand potential, location availability, building type and incentives as part of an overall business opportunity. Industry experts advise exploring all options to find the right growth opportunity for each entrepreneur, including the brand itself, considering rural versus urban locations and analyzing the benefits of different restaurant asset types, whether opening traditional standalone locations to non-traditional locations, such as an airport or a travel center. Several restaurant brands also offer incentives such as build-to-suit mechanisms, which can reduce the upfront cost of opening a restaurant.
3. A Partnership with Potential is Key
Mike Zak, a 30-year veteran franchise operator and president of Wenzak, a Wendy's franchise organization, shares some advice to consider when opening a QSR:
The Menu: Does the menu include craveable menu items, is the brand innovating and providing exceptional customer experiences to build repeat visits, is it delivering relevant value and do the teams ensure fresh, hot food every visit to keep customers coming back?Restaurant Design: Good restaurant design sets the stage for better returns. Designs should feature a simplified construction process that reduces capital expenditure and operating costs. In the digital age, it is important that the brand offers designs that include streamlined ordering, increased digital capacity and dedicated mobile pickup and delivery windows. It's also important to have a fresh, clean-looking design that employees love to work in, and customers love to visit.Technology: Does the brand lead through innovation to help restaurant operators deliver a quick and seamless experience to customers? Voice AI in the drive-thru and a user-friendly app can elevate, and help the crew focus on fast, friendly services and customer experiences.
For aspiring entrepreneurs looking to benefit from industry growth, Zak provides some final advice: "Being a QSR operator is a high-contact sport and requires the right coach to keep your team scoring big wins with strong returns on your investment. It's important to evaluate the team's performance today and understand the playbook for future success."
This is not an offer to sell or the solicitation of an offer to buy a franchise. It is for information purposes only.

India's Nom Nom Express targets 500 outlets in expansion

Aspect Hospitality has announced plans to expand its pan-Asian quick service restaurant (QSR) chain, Nom Nom Express, to 500 outlets by July 2026. Nom Nom Express is a delivery-only kitchen under the umbrella of Aspect Hospitality and Aspect Global. The brand's planned expansion strategy includes more than 50 outlets in the city of Mumbai, offering authentic Pan-Asian flavours directly to consumers' homes. Its menu includes dumplings, wok-tossed stir-fries, sushi rolls and ramen bowls, all made using quality ingredients and adhering to traditional recipes. Aspect Hospitality managing director Hitesh Keswani told Press Trust of India (PTI): "Opening another 25 stores by 31 July 2025 will take the total number of outlets to 50. 'In five years, the company aims to be a pan-India powerhouse in the F&B [food and beverage] space - with over 1,000 Nom Nom Express outlets, over 50 premium restaurant formats and at least two international cities in our portfolio.' According to the move is set to significantly increase the brand's footprint, which currently operates across the Indian cities of Pune, Mumbai and Hyderabad. Aspect Hospitality has also initiated a marketing campaign in Mumbai to promote the expansion. Asked about financial commitment for the expansion, Keswani stated: 'We are committing substantial investment to our expansion, confident in both our brand and the dynamic Indian QSR market. 'With the sector poised to reach over $27bn by 2025, fuelled by evolving consumer lifestyles and digital adoption, our strategic resource allocation will establish new outlets, upgrade infrastructure and refine operations.' The diverse offerings at Nom Nom Express draw inspiration from the Asian cuisines of China, India, Japan, Malaysia, Myanmar, Thailand and Vietnam. 12 L.A. spots reinventing the classic chicken Caesar wrap

In the 1990s, chicken Caesar wraps dominated lunchtime menus. Aside from the comforting hit of nostalgia for a simpler time, I don't remember them fondly. Often soggy, laden with too much dressing and scant, dry chicken, it was the kind of unfortunate premade meal you'd eat alone at an airport cafe. So you can imagine my surprise to see the Y2K-era sandwich having a sudden renaissance at popular restaurants around Los Angeles. But this time, it's back with some much-needed upgrades: Reputed L.A. chefs and sandwich shops are finally doing the dish justice by using high-quality ingredients and adding their own signature touches — from organic fried chicken to chunks of falafel instead of croutons. While Angelenos' love affair with the Caesar salad has been ongoing since Italian chef Caesar Cardini debuted it in Tijuana in the 1920s, the inventor of the chicken Caesar wrap is a bit more mysterious. California Chicken Cafe opened in 1991 on Melrose Avenue and added a chicken Caesar wrap to its menu soon after in 1993. In 1997, fast food chain Wendy's added its take to the menu (they've since been discontinued), giving the wrap nationwide exposure. At Ggiata, an East Coast-style deli with five locations across L.A., the chicken Caesar wrap is inspired by the ones that co-founders and childhood friends Noah Holton-Raphael, Max Bahramipour and Jack Biebel grew up eating in New Jersey sandwich shops. 'Every neighborhood sandwich shop had a Caesar wrap on the menu — and if they didn't then, they definitely do now,' said Holton-Raphael. Since Ggiata launched its viral version in March 2024, the trend has picked up serious steam, inspiring iconic restaurants like Mini Kabob and Casa Vega to add the wrap to their menus. No longer an afterthought, L.A.'s chicken Caesar wraps are made to order with ingredients like herb-blackened chicken, grain-free tortillas and house-made dressing that borrows inspiration from the salad's Mexican origins. Here are 12 excellent chicken Caesar wraps (including one made with a baguette) to try around L.A. right now.

1 Restaurant Stock with Exciting Potential and 2 to Approach with Caution

Restaurants increase convenience and give many people a place to unwind. But the side dish is that they're quite difficult to operate because high inventory and labor costs generally lead to thin margins at the store level. This leaves little room for error if demand dries up, and it seems like the market has some reservations as the industry's returns were flat over the past six months while the S&P 500 was up 5.4%. Only some companies are subject to these dynamics, however, and a handful of high-quality businesses can deliver earnings growth in any environment. With that said, here is one restaurant stock boasting a durable advantage and two best left ignored. Market Cap: $2.09 billion Founded by Dave Thomas in 1969, Wendy's (NASDAQ:WEN) is a renowned fast-food chain known for its fresh, never-frozen beef burgers, flavorful menu options, and commitment to quality. Why Are We Wary of WEN? Poor same-store sales performance over the past two years indicates it's having trouble bringing new diners into its restaurants Demand is forecasted to shrink as its estimated sales for the next 12 months are flat High net-debt-to-EBITDA ratio of 7× increases the risk of forced asset sales or dilutive financing if operational performance weakens Wendy's is trading at $10.95 per share, or 10.7x forward P/E. Dive into our free research report to see why there are better opportunities than WEN. Market Cap: $3.18 billion Celebrated for its delicious (and free) brown bread, gigantic portions, and delectable desserts, Cheesecake Factory (NASDAQ:CAKE) is an iconic American restaurant chain that also owns and operates a portfolio of separate restaurant brands. Why Is CAKE Not Exciting? Weak same-store sales trends over the past two years suggest there may be few opportunities in its core markets to open new restaurants Responsiveness to unforeseen market trends is restricted due to its substandard operating margin profitability 6× net-debt-to-EBITDA ratio makes lenders less willing to extend additional capital, potentially necessitating dilutive equity offerings At $64.30 per share, The Cheesecake Factory trades at 16.7x forward P/E. If you're considering CAKE for your portfolio, see our FREE research report to learn more. Market Cap: $12.5 billion With locations often featuring Western-inspired decor, Texas Roadhouse (NASDAQ:TXRH) is an American restaurant chain specializing in Southern-style cuisine and steaks. Why Will TXRH Outperform? Offensive push to build new restaurants and attack its untapped market opportunities is backed by its same-store sales growth Same-store sales growth over the past two years shows it's successfully drawing diners into its restaurants ROIC punches in at 18.7%, illustrating management's expertise in identifying profitable investments, and its returns are growing as it capitalizes on even better market opportunities Texas Roadhouse's stock price of $194 implies a valuation ratio of 26.6x forward P/E.
