On World Hunger Day, the Group reaffirmed its commitment under the flagship 'Hunger Free World' project to distribute 70,000 meals daily across India and Zambia, amounting to a total of 2.5 crore meals in 2025-26.
This marks a significant increase compared to the 2.5 crore meals served over the past three years since the programme's inception. The initiative aligns with the United Nations' Sustainable Development Goal 2 – Zero Hunger.
Dr Amitabh Kant, former CEO of NITI Aayog and G-20 Sherpa, inaugurated the next phase of the Group's CSR activities. "While we are doing our utmost, a greater impact can be achieved if more organisations join this mission. With 295 million people globally facing acute hunger as per UN data, immediate action is non-negotiable. Our Hunger Free World initiative reflects this urgency, focusing on meal distribution alongside efforts to boost food production, create jobs, and foster sustainable economic growth."
Currently, the Hunger Free World project distributes over 60,000 nutrient-rich meals daily through 167 centres across 20 states in India. In Zambia, the Group partners with the government to serve 10,000 meals daily to students in three schools. The kitchens operate with modern equipment and are staffed by trained culinary and hygiene personnel.
In addition to hunger alleviation, the Group's educational initiatives include 716 micro-learning centres providing primary education and nutrition to street children across India. Over 32,000 children have enrolled, with 9,000 integrated into formal schooling, in collaboration with THANAL. Scholarships have been awarded to 1,14,000 girls to support their education.

Govt relief package: 110 Surat schools submit 3,200 forms for fee assistance
At least 110 schools in Surat submitted over 3,200 application forms for fee assistance — as a part of the state government relief package for diamond polishers' children — benefiting 10,921 students to the Surat District Industries Centre on Monday, sources familiar with the matter said on Tuesday. The forms will be verified by the Surat Diamond Association before being forwarded to the approval committee headed by District Collector Dr Sourabh Pardhi. Earlier in May, the state government announced a special assistance package for the diamond industry. Under the relief package, the state government will cover the school fees of children of diamond polishers, providing an annual sum of Rs 13,500 for one year. The criteria to avail the scheme benefits include the diamond polisher being unemployed for the last year and having worked in the industry for at least three years. The government will directly pay the fees to the schools. The diamond industry has been experiencing a prolonged period of recession for over two-and-a-half years now. The diamond polishers, along with middle and small diamond unit owners, have been facing great financial difficulty due to the reduced demand for polished diamonds in the international market. There are over 4,000 small, medium, and large diamond factories in Surat city, employing a workforce of over 5 lakh diamond workers. Out of the 10 polished diamonds found in the world, eight are cut and polished in Surat city. The majority of the workforce in the diamond industry hails from Saurashtra and other parts of Gujarat and are settled in Surat city. Following the announcement of a special relief package by the state government, schools were instructed to make students and their parents aware of the scheme. The school authorities had also distributed forms among the students, seeking all necessary details. The form submission is being done in three phases, with the first phase ending on Monday, while the second and third phases are scheduled for July 7 and 23, according to sources in the Surat district administration. On Monday, 110 schools submitted 3,200 forms to the district industries commissioner. Majority of such schools are located in Katargam, Kapodara, Sarthana, and Varachha areas in Surat city. Surat District Industries Commissioner Jigar Dave told The Indian Express, 'We have received 3,200 application forms from 110 schools, and the number of beneficiaries is over 10,921 students'. 'We will be sending these forms to the Surat Diamond Association for verification, including confirmation of whether the applicant is actually a diamond polisher and if they have been jobless for the last year. There are two more phases left for accepting such forms. Once these forms are verified, it will be sent to the scrutiny committee, and later it will reach the approval committee headed by Surat District Collector Dr Sourabh Pardhi'. Surat Diamond Association President Jagdish Khunt told The Indian Express, 'We are expecting more such forms in the coming days. A core committee meeting regarding the disbursement of the special assistance package will be held on Thursday'. 'We already have a staff crunch. How are we supposed to handle 3,200 forms? We will share our concerns with the committee head, the Surat District Collector. We are also preparing for our upcoming loose diamond auction event which will be held in Surat city from July 11 to 13. How will we take care of so much work?' Khunt asked.

HC orders 220 flats' registry after builder in Noida offers to pay Rs25cr more
Noida: The Allahabad high court has asked Noida Authority to execute flat registries at Grand Omaxe and Forest Spa projects in Sector 93B, paving the way for 220 families to finally get their property documents. The order came after the developer agreed to deposit an additional Rs 25 crore with the Authority in two weeks, making 50 more flats eligible for registry. The company had earlier deposited Rs 93 crore under the state govt's rehabilitation policy for stalled projects, which allowed 170 flats to be cleared for registration. The projects — comprising 1,692 sanctioned flats in total — had 678 pending registries among them. The issue first surfaced in 2018, when 30 Grand Omaxe allottees approached the high court, alleging they were denied tripartite sub-lease deeds despite paying the full amount because of the developer's unpaid lease premium. You Can Also Check: Noida AQI | Weather in Noida | Bank Holidays in Noida | Public Holidays in Noida In an interim order on March 23, 2018, the court asked the Authority not to issue any further occupation or completion certificates for other projects until further orders. It clarified that if the developer deposited the full arrears with interest, the Authority could process applications for completion or occupation certificates of those additional projects. The case expanded when Forest Spa homebuyers — with their three towers and 176 flats — joined the litigation in 2021. Its AOA urged the court to hear their petition jointly with Grand Omaxe, saying both projects concerned the same developer and land parcel. A breakthrough came through UP govt's Dec 2023 order, which offered relief to stalled projects if developers paid 25% of recalculated dues. The developer's original dues of Rs 545 crore were revised to Rs 374 crore, considering a two-year 'zero period' during the Covid pandemic. After it paid the mandatory advance of 25% or Rs 93 crore, the developer unlocked permission to register 170 flats. During recent hearings, the developer insisted it was willing to pay the remaining dues so that flats in both Grand Omaxe and Forest Spa could be registered. On May 29, the court suggested an amicable settlement, following which the developer agreed to deposit another Rs 25 crore within a month. The Authority informed the court this additional amount would pave the way for 50 more registries. It told the court there would be "no impediment in granting occupancy certificates and other necessary permissions" for the two projects. The bench of Justices Manoj Kumar Gupta and Anish Kumar Gupta acknowledged the submission made by the Authority about the possibility of both projects being granted OCs within four weeks. The bench also ordered that any dispute regarding sub-lease entitlement must be resolved by the Authority CEO within a week. If homebuyers fail to complete formalities within two weeks of notification, the next person on the waiting list would get the opportunity, it clarified. "The list of homebuyers, along with the date of buyer-builder agreement or date of allotment provided by the developer, and the list submitted by the Forest Spa Association of Apartment Owners with names of transferees, successors, or joint owners, would be used for executing sub-leases," the court observed. The Authority must also file a status report by the next hearing, scheduled this month itself. This report will outline the progress of sub-leases and any remaining issues, ensuring that eligible homebuyers can secure legal ownership of their flats. Ghaziabad hospital told to pay retired railway employee s 17k for claim process delay
Ghaziabad: District Consumer Disputes Redressal Commission (DCDRC) has directed the Northern Railways chief medical superintendent (CMS) to pay over Rs 17,000 to a retired railway employee — as reimbursement and compensation for claim delay. While payment of Rs 12,398 has been ordered as treatment reimbursement for cataract surgery, that of Rs 5,000 has been directed as the compensation for delaying the payment of the claim. The commission also directed the payment to be made within 45 days of the order, failing which interest calculated at 6% would have to be paid. You Can Also Check: Noida AQI | Weather in Noida | Bank Holidays in Noida | Public Holidays in Noida Passing the order on June 23, the commission, presided over by Praveen Kumar Jain, said railway authorities should have taken necessary steps to initiate payment instead of rejecting the claim on the grounds of incomplete papers "when the claimant is a retired employee of the railways". Devilal Singh, who superannuated from the post of chief medical superintendent (CMS) in 2012, had filed an application before the DCDRC for direction to CMS, Delhi divisional office and assistant chief medical superintendent (ACMS) of Railway Hospital Ghaziabad. The complainant said during retirement, he was provided with a medical card covering him and his family members. He told the commission, "When I felt some problem with my right eye, I consulted the doctors at JP Hospital, Noida, and underwent a surgery on April 10, 2019, for which I paid Rs 35,890. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Giao dịch CFD với công nghệ và tốc độ tốt hơn IC Markets Đăng ký Undo Once again, I had some issues with my right eye and was advised by doctors at JP Hospital to undergo a cataract surgery, which was conducted on Oct 1, 2019. This time, I paid Rs 30,500 towards the bills raised by the hospital. When I applied for reimbursement of the treatment cost with ACMS (Railway Hospital Ghaziabad) with all relevant documents, it was rejected, which was not just a deficiency in services but also illegal. " The complainant later filed an RTI application and was informed by the railways that his first claim of Rs 35,890 was settled by the railway department by paying Rs 1,786, as was admissible under the policy of Central Govt Health Service (CGHS). The complainant contended that since he was an employee of the railway, his claims could not be dealt with under the CGHS policy and were governed by the railway board. The counsel for the opponents said that railway authorities follow the railway board policy of 2005, effective since Jan 2007, under which beneficiaries can obtain treatment at hospitals recognised by the railways. "The beneficiaries are free to obtain treatment at any hospital of their choice, but in that case, reimbursement is done according to CGHS rates as applicable," the counsel said. He told the commission the second claim was rejected for inadequacy of documents. Get the latest lifestyle updates on Times of India, along with Doctor's Day 2025 , messages and quotes!
