Govt hikes petrol price by Rs5.36, diesel by Rs11.37 per litre
The rate for high-speed diesel was also increased by Rs11.37 per litre, taking it to Rs284.35 per litre.
In a notification, the Finance Division stated that the new prices will take effect from July 16, 2025.
In the last fortnightly review, the government had increased the petrol price by Rs8.36 per litre to Rs266.79, and diesel by Rs10.39 per litre, to Rs272.98.

NA body asks ministries to get ISO certification
Commending the Establishment Division and Finance Division on attaining ISO 9001 certification, the National Assembly Standing Committee on Cabinet Secretariat has recommended that all the ministries should follow the suit and get them certified as per international certification standards. The recommendation was given in a meeting of the NA Standing Committee held on Tuesday with Malik Ibrar Ahmad, MNA in the Chair, said a press release. The Committee met for briefing on the working on Establishment Division and its attached/associated departments apart from pending legislative business.

Federal govt notifies grant of compensatory allowance
ISLAMABAD: The government on Friday notified grant of compensatory allowance for federal government employees. Finance Division issued an office memorandum which stated that federal government has granted Disparity Reduction Allowance (DRA-2025) at the rate of 30 percent of the running basic pay as on 30-06-2022 to those offices which are already in receipt of that allowance. DRA is accounted for the calculations of compensatory allowance to federal government employees who are serving on deputation basis as per terms and conditions prescribed in Finance Division's OMNoF.3(14)R-3/2009-477, dated 29-11-2023, i.e. the amount of DRA will be reduced from the amount of Compensatory Allowance. It is requested that offices which are in receipt of DRA and they have officers who are drawing Compensatory Allowance on 1st July, 2025, the amount of Compensatory Allowance of those officers may be reduced by the amount of DRA-2025 at the rate of 30 per cent w.e.f. 1st July, 2025. Ministries/Divisions are requested to circulate these instructions to departments/autonomous/semi-autonomous/corporate bodies etc under their administrative control, for compliance. The copy of this OM is being endorsed to Controller General of Accounts and AGPR for implementation of this decision,' the memorandum noted. Copyright Business Recorder, 2025

Passenger train fares jacked up by 2%
The Pakistan Railways has made a 2% increase in the fares of passenger trains in view of a hike in the price of High Speed Diesel (HSD). This increase in fares will take effect from today, July 18. An undated office memorandum seen by The Express Tribune directed the director IT to ensure the announcement of the new fares on the PR website. The railways has also increased the rate of its freight trains transporting coal by 3% and the trains transporting rock phosphates and fertilizers by 2%. These hikes will apply from July 21. The government on Tuesday raised the prices of petroleum products by up to Rs11 per litre for the second half of July in a regressive step that is likely to exacerbate the economic hardships of people. According to a notification issued by the Finance Division on July 15, petrol price went up by Rs5.36 - from Rs266.79 to Rs272.15 per litre, while the price of the HSD rose by Rs11.37 per litre - from Rs272.98 to Rs284.35 for the July 16-31 period. This hike in the HSD price increased the cost of the PR operation by Rs4 million [39,86,500] per day and around R199 million [119,500,000] per month. On an average, the PR consumes around 350,000 litres of HSD on a daily basis.
