Nur Atiqah Jessica, a contractor, pleaded not guilty before Magistrate Marilyn Kelvin to cheating Sylvrina S. Motiung of RM11,820 by dishonestly inducing her to hand over the money between Dec 15, 2024 and March 1, this year.

In another case, two people were charged with having 1,500ml of Mitragynine - a scheduled poison under the Poisons Act. Mohd Jamil Taib, 33, and Nur Arfidzuan Ajib, 20, allegedly had the Mitragynine, listed in the Third Schedule (Psychotropic Substances) of the Poisons Act 1952, at 3.20pm on July 12 this year, in a house at Kg Gudon, Manggatal. They were jointly charged under Section 30(3) of the Poison Act 1952, which provides for a fine of up to RM100,000, or up to five years, or both, on conviction. Inspector Yusdi Basri, prosecuting, applied for another mention date pending the chemist's report. He objected to bail for Jamil as he is holding a temporary resident identification card (MyKAS) and offered RM5,000 bail for Nur. Police investigate Telegram scam involving teen's nude photos
IPOH: Police are investigating two reports involving a 15-year-old girl who was tricked into sending nude photographs to an individual posing as a medical doctor on Telegram. Manjung district police chief, ACP Hasbullah Abd Rahman (pic), stated that preliminary investigations showed the girl had sent several nude images after being misled by the suspect. The girl claimed the suspect contacted her through Telegram, introducing himself as a doctor conducting remote health screenings. 'She was asked to provide personal and family details, along with nude photographs, allegedly for cervical and breast cancer screening. The victim was told only photos were needed, with no physical examination required. She later realised she had been deceived and lodged a police report fearing the images might be leaked,' said Hasbullah. The case is being investigated under Section 15(a) of the Sexual Offences Against Children Act 2017. Authorities urge anyone with information to contact Investigating Officer Inspector Nur Munawarah at 011-1624 0391 or the Manjung District Police Headquarters at 05-688 6222. Zayn Rayyan neglect case verdict to be announced tomorrow
KUALA LUMPUR: The fate of Zayn Rayyan Abdul Matin's parents, Zaim Ikhwan Zahari and Ismanira Abdul Manaf, will be determined tomorrow as the Petaling Jaya Sessions Court delivers its decision on whether they must defend themselves against neglect charges. Judge Dr Syahliza Warnoh will rule at 9 am on whether the prosecution has established a prima facie case. If the court finds sufficient evidence, the couple will be called to enter their defence. Otherwise, they will be acquitted. The prosecution closed its case on April 24 after presenting 28 witnesses over 20 trial days. Witnesses included the boy's caregiver, forensic experts, and child witnesses. The couple faces charges under Section 31(1)(a) of the Child Act 2001, which carries a maximum penalty of 20 years in prison or a RM50,000 fine. They are accused of neglecting their autistic son, leading to his death near their Damansara Damai apartment in December 2023. - Bernama

Decision On Zayn Rayyan Neglect Case To Be Known Tomorrow
CRIME & COURTS KUALA LUMPUR, July 20 (Bernama) -- The decision on whether Zayn Rayyan Abdul Matin's parents, Zaim Ikhwan Zahari and Ismanira Abdul Manaf, will be called to defend themselves or acquitted by the Petaling Jaya Sessions Court on charges of neglecting the six-year-old autistic child to the point of causing physical harm to him, will be known tomorrow. Judge Dr Syahliza Warnoh is scheduled to give the decision at the end of the prosecution case at 9 am. If the court decides that the prosecution has succeeded in proving a prima facie case against Ismanira and Zaim Ikhwan, then they will be called to defend themselves, while if not, the two accused will be released and acquitted of the charges. On April 24, the prosecution closed the case after calling 28 prosecution witnesses throughout the 20-day trial which began on February 4. Among the prosecution witnesses called to testify were the first person to find Zayn Rayyan's body, Faizul Najib Abd Munaim, Auni Afiqah Abas who was Zayn Rayyan's caregiver, forensic medical consultant Dr Rohayu Shahar Adnan, three investigating officers and two 10-year-old child witnesses. The prosecution was conducted by Deputy Public Prosecutor Raja Zaizul Faridah Raja Zaharudin, Aqharie Durranie Aziz and Nur Sabrina Zubairi, while lawyers Haresh Mahadevan, Ramzani Idris and Lavanesh Haresh represented both accused. Zaim Ikhwan and Ismanira, both aged 30, were charged with neglecting Zayn Rayyan in a manner likely to cause physical harm to the victim in the vicinity of Block R, Idaman Apartment, Damansara Damai up to the nearby river area between 12 noon on Dec 5 and 9.55 pm on Dec 6, 2023. They were charged under Section 31(1)(a) of the Child Act 2001 read with Section 34 of the Penal Code which carries a maximum sentence of 20 years imprisonment or a fine of RM50,000 or both, if convicted. Zayn Rayyan, 6, was reported missing on December 5, 2023 and his body was found the next day in a stream near his house.
