Sara Cox joins Radio 2 presenting line-up for Eurovision 2025!
Sara and Richie sent voicenotes to Scott revealing that they will both be heading to Basel, Switzerland, to provide the Radio 2 commentary for both of the Eurovision Semi-Finals.
Sara said, in full Eurovision style: "You have put on such an amazing show, it gives me great pleasure to reveal that the Semi Final commentary team for Radio 2 will be us, yes, me Sara Cox and him."
Richie: "Richie Anderson! Scott, now you know I've loved coming to Eurovision with you over the past few years and doing the commentary last year was a dream come true, although when I was in that tight little booth on my own and I looked to my left and I saw you and Rylan, and looked to my right and saw the duo from Italy, I thought, you know what I need to bring a friend this year, so I am so excited that Sara is going to come along with me."
Sara makes her return to the Eurovision Song Contest commentary booth, co-hosting Radio 2 and BBC Sounds' coverage of the Semi-Finals on Tuesday 13 and Thursday 15 May, live from the arena in Basel. They'll be bringing listeners their commentary from St. Jakobshalle arena, as we find out which country's entries will be joining UK act, Remember Monday, in Saturday's Grand Final alongside the acts from France, Germany, Italy, Spain and the host country Switzerland.
In the first Semi Final, fifteen countries are taking part with the best ten qualifying for the Grand Final on the Saturday night. In the second Semi-Final, sixteen countries are taking part with the best ten qualifying for the Grand Final. In Thursday's Semi-Final, the UK's artist, Remember Monday, will showcase their entry for Eurovision, although as a member of the 'Big Five' countries, the UK automatically qualify for Saturday's Grand Final. Sara also presents her Teatime show live from the centre of Basel on Wednesday 14 May (4-7pm), bringing the lowdown on the first first Semi Final. Expect all the usual Teatime treats with a Swiss flavour!
Sara previously commentated on the Eurovision Song Contest alongside Scott Mills in Düsseldorf (2011) and Baku (2012) and once again returned to the competition in 2021 when the contest was held in Rotterdam. Richie is a life-long Eurovision fan and has been known to host a Eurovision themed party on the night of the Grand Final. He was in Turin for the competition in 2022, reported live from Liverpool in 2023, and joined the BBC's commentary team last year for the Semi Finals broadcast live from Malmö.
Scott and Rylan return as Radio 2 and BBC Sounds' presenters for this year's Grand Final which will be broadcast live on the network. They paired up to host the Grand Final for the first time for Eurovision 2023 in Liverpool and in Sweden in 2024, and will be back together again, broadcasting live from the centre of the action in Switzerland getting behind the UK act, Remember Monday, as well as cheering on all the other entries! Scott and Rylan will be hosting the Semi Finals on BBC TV and BBC iPlayer.

Ncuti Gatwa has opened up on his decision to quit Doctor Who after two years and two series, as he also opened up on his decision not to represent the UK at Eurovision. Doctor Who star Ncuti Gatwa revealed the real reason for his exit from the long-running BBC series. He admitted it was because "I'm getting old and my body was tired". It takes a lot out of you, physically, emotionally, mentally, and so it was time." When questioned about a potential return to the programme, he playfully hinted: "Never say never," meaning fans could see him grace the small screen in the role in the future. Ncuti took on the Doctor role after Tennant's Time Lord underwent bi-generation in 2023, following his character's return to the series as the 14th Doctor. Elsewhere, he had been tipped to represent the UK at the Eurovision Song Contest in May but withdrew, with rumours suggesting the move was linked to controversy over Israel's involvement in the competition. "It all panned out very interestingly. I pulled out of it a long time before it was announced," he revealed. "And it was announced when it was announced, I don't know why, but I was just very busy. "Just had a lot of work schedules, a lot of press around The Roses, around Doctor (Who)." When quizzed about the rumours regarding his exit, Ncuti, who didn't tune in to this year's contest, admitted: "I was just very busy." The actor graced the Sunday morning news programme to discuss the West End debut of Born With Teeth, an imaginative play that explores the dynamic between competing dramatists Christopher Marlowe and William Shakespeare. Taking on the role of Marlowe alongside his Sex Education co-star Edward Bluemel as Shakespeare, he will feature in the Royal Shakespeare Company's production at London's Wyndham's Theatre starting later this year in August. "It's a really great story between these two huge literary icons, and it's very exciting to imagine what could have happened in a room together," Ncuti remarked.

Ncuti Gatwa, 32, reveals he quit Doctor Who because he feels he is getting 'too old' and his 'body feels tired'

Ncuti became the first black actor to lead the BBC show and was hailed for bringing fresh energy to the Time Lord – but after two series he has called time on the role. It comes amid reports of behind-the-scenes tension and a Eurovision controversy that saw the actor withdraw from presenting the British votes. A spoiler warning was then written underneath, but many felt the headline spoiled the ending. Since then, the broadcaster has acknowledged the complaints and explained the reasoning behind the story. The statement read: 'Some people contacted us to complain that the headline gave away the ending, spoiling this Doctor Who episode for them. 'Others requested that the BBC be more conscious of spoilers going forward, particularly in the use of headlines. 'Ncuti Gatwa's departure from the series had been widely speculated and many fans will have been aware that this was a possibility. 'The headline on the news homepage that evening referred to Ncuti Gatwa's departure because this was a legitimate entertainment news story in its own right, and it is not unusual that we would carry this type of story once a programme has been broadcast and the details in the public domain.' It went on to reveal details of the regeneration was added in later on in the evening. The statement continued: 'While we cannot account for everyone's viewing habits, we initially held back from headlining the announcement of Ncuti Gatwa's regeneration into Billie Piper. 'This extra detail was added later in the evening and our approach was consistent across the BBC site. 'BBC journalists are of course entitled to use their judgement to decide which stories to cover and the manner in which they are reported. We also want our headlines to be as informative as possible. 'Although every story is different, we have discussed your concerns on this occasion with senior editors and we will be mindful of your views for future coverage.' When the episode aired, devout Whovians were not expecting the huge twist at the end when Ncuti's character regenerated into Rose amid his departure after just two series as woke storylines saw ratings for the much-loved show plunge. Billie first starred as the companion to the ninth Doctor in 2005, playing Rose Tyler alongside Christopher Eccleston's Time Lord. She went onto star alongside David Tennant as the Tenth Doctor in the second series.
