Beau Lyons, of Ewart Street, Saltney Ferry, Flintshire, 'launched himself' at Shane Edwards at Mojo's Karaoke, Cabaret and Retro Bar in Newport city centre.
The assault was unprovoked and on an unsuspecting victim who was sitting down at the time after he'd been dancing with the defendant's girlfriend.
Lyons, 27, is originally from Newport but had moved to live in North Wales.
He, his partner Shaunnia Connolly and another woman had travelled to his home city for a night out on Friday, March 28.
(Image: Beau Lyons) Nuhu Gobir, prosecuting, revealed how Mr Edwards has no memory of the violence and the first thing he recalls is waking up in an ambulance covered in blood.
CCTV footage of the shocking assault was played at Newport Crown Court to Judge Eugene Egan.
The complainant was left with a 5cm cut from his left ear to the base of his skull.
In a victim impact statement read by Mr Gubir, he said: 'I have been crying a lot because of the state of my ear.
'I feel like I'm deformed. I'm always looking over my shoulder when I'm out now.
'People have been making comments about my ear.
'Somebody said I look like something out of Star Wars which has knocked my confidence right down.'
The court heard that security staff had 'escorted' Lyons out of Mojo's before he tried to make a run for it.
They tackled him and held him until the police arrived.
He glassed Mr Edwards to the side of his face before throwing him into a nearby table and continuing the assault before the bouncers stopped him.
Lyons and the women had been on a pub crawl before the attack happened at around 11pm.
The defendant pleaded guilty to wounding with intent and possession of an offensive weapon in public.
Lyons, a young father, has no previous convictions and the court heard his behaviour was 'very much out of character'.
His barrister Julia Cox said: 'There is clear evidence of genuine remorse in this case.

'The defendant is disgusted with his own behaviour.
'He's viewed the CCTV and it is a shame upon him.'
Judge Egan told Lyons: 'You are an educated man up to degree level.
'When you observed the CCTV, you were disgusted with yourself – and so you should be.'
The defendant was jailed for three years and told he would serve half of that sentence before being released on licence.
The time he has spent on remand following his arrest will count towards that term.
Lyons will have to pay a victim surcharge.

‘Rat in the camp' may have tipped off shooter who executed gangsters Ross Monaghan and Eddie Lyons Jr

Insiders said gang bosses are certain someone trusted tipped off the gunman 'INSIDER TIP' 'Rat in the camp' may have tipped off shooter who executed gangsters Ross Monaghan and Eddie Lyons Jr Click to share on X/Twitter (Opens in new window) Click to share on Facebook (Opens in new window) A LATE change of plans in the hours before Ross Monaghan and Eddie Lyons Jnr were killed has raised suspicions of a 'rat in the camp' who helped orchestrate their murders. A masked assassin shot dead the Lyons clan chiefs after they watched the Champions League Final in Monaghan's bar, Fuengirola on May 31. Sign up for Scottish Sun newsletter Sign up 2 The pair were gunned down after watching the Champions League Final in Fuengirola on May 31 2 The attack happened inside Monaghans Bar in the Costa Del Sol We previously told how there were fears among the Lyons crew a traitor had leaked inside info to the shooter. Insiders said gang bosses are certain someone trusted tipped off the gunman just hours before the Mafia-style hit at a pub packed with holidaymakers in Fuengirola, Spain. Sources revealed the hunt was on to 'find who betrayed them to the guys who killed them.' And now former detective Gerry Gallagher has given his take on the potential dynamics of the calculated assassination plot. He says: 'There are several possible scenarios there. 'Logic dictates that if your name is above a bar and there's a long-anticipated sporting event playing on the television, there's a very good chance that it will draw a crowd. 'The other scenario is possibly that one or both males had been placed under surveillance, and the perpetrator was aware of where they would be and that they would be in a vulnerable situation. 'There's another possibility that the person who carried out the murders had received inside information that they would be there and exploited that.' We told how Spanish police believe the killing was a targeted gangland hit linked to the decades-long conflict between the Daniels and Lyons mobs. According to Spanish police, the assassin escaped by running across train tracks and through a tunnel to avoid CCTV cameras. Execution of gangsters Ross Monaghan & Eddie Lyons Jnr in Spain WAS linked to Scots turf war, senior cops claim Investigators are now pursuing multiple lines of enquiry, including whether there was involvement of individuals connected to the Daniels crew. The alleged hitman accused of killing the pair won't face an extradition hearing until November - five months after his arrest. Michael Riley, 44, is charged with the murders of the underworld figures at Monaghan's Bar in Fuengirola, Costa del Sol, on May 31. Authorities in Spain want him sent there to face criminal proceedings. Riley, of Huyton, Liverpool, was arrested by Merseyside police on June 13 under an international arrest warrant issued by the Spanish authorities. His extradition hearing was due to take place on October 9 at Westminster Magistrates Court, but it will now be heard on November 20.

Gangland clan the Lyons mocked in footage filmed from behind bars

The video was posted just two days after the joint funeral of Lyons mob lieutenants, Eddie Lyons and Ross Monaghan, who were gunned down in the Spanish city of Fuengirola Footage has emerged of gangland family the Lyons being mocked by supporters of rival gangsters from behind bars. ‌ A video, which is believed to have been filmed within Edinburgh's Saughton Prison, was posted online on Sunday, July 6, showing six caged hoods with their faces masked. ‌ The 14-second-long clip was captioned "F*** the L mob haha keeman" and showed the unidentified crooks in it making hand gestures to the camera and shouting. ‌ Laughs and chants of "yes" could be heard, while the person believed to be filming the video shouted: "Haha. F*** the L mob! F*** that Lyons mob!". The video was posted just two days after the joint funeral of Lyons mob lieutenants, Eddie Lyons and Ross Monaghan, who were gunned down in the Spanish city of Fuengirola in May, after watching the Champions League final together. ‌ The account that posted the footage, which we have chosen not to identify, has posted a number of videos in support of the so-called A Team - the group claiming to work for the Daniel crime clan and Edinburgh-based associate Mark Richardson, who is currently behind bars himself. Jail bosses have refused to say whether the video is being investigated, but it's understood a probe is underway to identify those on the footage - and who filmed it. ‌ A Scottish Prison Service Spokesperson said: "Whilst we do not comment on individuals, we are aware of a video that has been posted to social media. ' Our staff work extremely hard to tackle the introduction of illicit articles, and we are continuously working to reduce their availability and supply across the prison estate.' The 44-year-old has been charged over the double assassination, which took place at Monaghan's Irish Bar in the Costa del Sol city of Fuengirola. ‌ The Spanish authorities are trying to extradite him to Spain so he can go on trial over the killings, which were carried out on the evening of Saturday, May 31, 2025. Riley, of Huyton, Liverpool, is remanded in custody at Wandsworth Prison and was due to appear at Westminster Magistrates Court on October 9 for his extradition hearing. ‌ But today the court heard that the hearing is now expected to take place at the same court on November 20, five weeks later than originally planned. Another hearing is due to take place in August. The Lyons crime gang has been at war with the rival Daniel mob for a quarter of a century, with the feud starting in the early 2000s when the Lyons gang were blamed after cocaine belonging to the Daniels was swiped from a safe house during a party. What followed was decades of tit-for-tat shootings, ambushes and knife attacks. Spanish police said Riley was a member of the Daniel gang, but Police Scotland have denied a link between the murders and their lengthy feud.

Gangland thugs plough SUV through living room window of Lanarkshire home

The frightening incident is believed to be connected to the ongoing gangland turf war. A terrifying video has emerged showing a masked gang ploughing an SUV through the living room window of a home in Lanarkshire. ‌ The frightening incident took place at the semi-detached earlier this month. It is believed to be connected to an ongoing gangland war. ‌ ‌ In the footage, a hooded thug dressed in black can be seen arriving at the home and smashing the windows and front door with a pickaxe. A second masked man appears and uses an axe to smash up a black Audi parked in the driveway. The two armed men can be heard laughing before they dump the axes. ‌ One man then climbs into a waiting black BMW. The car is reversed at speed into the living room window of the home, ripping the window from the frame. The clip ends as the camera pans around to show off the carnage. The video appears to be captioned with a warning to associates of the Lyons crime clan and Dubai 'Mr Big' Ross McGill. ‌ The message reads: "We don't set houses on fire with kids inside. "This is the first warning." ‌ It comes just two weeks after mourners who attended the funeral for murdered hoods Eddie Lyons Jnr and Ross Monaghan were warned they would be targeted. The gangsters were drinking in Monaghan's bar in the Costa del Sol after watching the Champions League Cup final when they were gunned down on May 31. They were laid to rest in a joint funeral at Bishopbriggs Crematorium on July 4. ‌ The sinister message appeared in an online post and blamed ex-Rangers capo McGill for the relentless gangland feud which has engulfed central Scotland since March. The organised crime war was sparked after an associate of caged Edinburgh drugs kingpin Mark Richardson ripped him off in a £500,000 coke deal. It's seen pals of Richardson and the Daniels crime clan targeted by firebombings and violent attacks - assisted by Lyons associates. Police Scotland have arrested 52 people in connection with the gang wars as part of the Operation Portaledge investigation into violent incidents in Edinburgh and Glasgow.
