ITC expects consumption uptick on rains, rate cuts
Consumption spending is expected to rise steadily as a good monsoon powers a continued rural recovery, the maker of Bingo chips and Gold Flake cigarettes said; alongside, lower inflation and the recent income tax cut are expected to boost disposable incomes in towns and cities. The company expects India's macro-economic variables to remain stable in the year ahead.
"The cumulative impact of pick-up in government capex in the second half of FY25 and front-loading of capex outlay in FY26, along with interest rate cuts and liquidity support from RBI, would also be supportive of growth," ITC said in a filing.

India's second-largest consumer goods maker reported a 289% jump in March quarter profit, thanks to an exceptional gain from the demerger of its hotels business. Profit touched ₹19,561.57 crore, up from ₹5,020 crore a year earlier. Excluding profit from exceptional items, profit stood at ₹4,875 crore, up 0.77%. ITC's hotels demerger took effect on 1 January this year.
A Bloomberg survey of 22 analysts had estimated ITC to report standalone March revenue of ₹16,979 crore, while 18 analysts estimated a net profit of ₹4,942 crore.
'Adjusted profit after tax came in line with our but 2.5% below consensus estimates," Abneesh Roy, executive director, Nuvama Institutional Equities. Roy said revenue and Ebitda were largely in line with Nuvama's estimates. Ebitda is short for earnings before interest, tax, depreciation, depreciation and amortization.
Standalone revenue from operations in the fourth quarter grew 9.4% to ₹18,494.06 crore, up from ₹16,907.18 crore in the same quarter of FY24. Expenses grew 12.7% to ₹12,872.66 crore.
On 25 April, HUL had said that this is 'a good moment" for the consumer packaged goods industry, as India's macros turn favourable. 'Monsoons have been good, projections have been decent, reservoirs are full, and agri output is strong," chief executive officer and managing director Rohit Jawa said at a post-earnings meet.

For the full year FY25, ITC recorded overall profit after tax (including profit from discontinued operations)of ₹35,196 crore, up 72.3% year-on-year. Standalone revenue from operations grew 10.31% to ₹74,236.07 crore. Earnings per share for the year stood at ₹16.07, against the previous year's ₹15.98.
The ITC board recommended a dividend of ₹7.85 per share for FY25. Together with the interim dividend of ₹6.50 paid on 7March, the total dividend for the year totals to ₹14.35 per share.
During the quarter, ITC's FMCG business reported a 3.6% increase in revenue to ₹5,494.63 crore, while profit decreased 28%.
ITC reported severe price pressures in edible oil, wheat, maida, potato, cocoa and packaging inputs—especially in the second half of the year. These pressures were partially mitigated through focused cost management, portfolio premiumization, supply chain agility, digital interventions and calibrated pricing actions, ITC said.
ITC said atta, spices, snacks, frozen snacks, dairy, premium personal sash, homecare and agarbatti business led growth during the quarter. It also reported heightened competitive intensity in certain categories such as noodles, snacks, biscuits and popular soaps.

ITC's 'Classmate' notebook business faced stiff competition from smaller brands, which cashed in on the drop in paper prices.
'The FMCG segment delivered a resilient performance amidst weak demand conditions and significant increase in competitive intensity from regional-local players. Costs of several major inputs such as edible oil, wheat, maida, potato and cocoa witnessed sharp escalation, especially in the second half of the financial year, weighing on margins…The business sustained competitive levels of trade and marketing investments during the year towards supporting growth and market standing," the company said.
Last month, rival HUL reported a 2% increase in revenue and volumes in the March quarter. Its management pointed to stressed demand in urban markets on account of high inflation that outpaced wage growth, leading consumers to prioritize essentials over discretionary items.
ITC, which sells Sunfeast cookies and Aashirvaadstaples, introduced over100 new FMCG products during the year. Its cigarettes business reported a 6% jump in quarterly revenues as volumes rose.
'Cigarette volumes increased 5% year-on-year, slightly ahead of our estimate of 4%," said Nuvama's Roy. Sharp cost escalation in leaf tobacco partly mitigated through improved mix and focused cost management initiatives, during the quarter.
In the fourth quarter, segment revenuefor its agriculture business was up18% year-on-year to ₹3,649.16 crore.
The paperboards, paper and packaging segment remains impacted due to low-priced Chinese and Indonesian supplies in global markets including India, soft domestic demand conditions and unprecedented surge in wood prices, the company said. The segment reported revenue growth of 5.5% to ₹2,187.62 crore.
Rising domestic wood prices and lower selling prices are squeezing margins. ITC is addressing this through plantation initiatives, product optimization and cost control.
'Representations continue to be made at appropriate forums for suitable measures to safeguard domestic industry," ITC said.
The company will continue to monitor urban demand recovery, inflation trajectory and private capex going forward. It continues to remain concerned about the impact of reciprocal trade tariffs and geopolitical disruptions.

Home Business Rs 200000000000: This company makes big announcement, plans major investment in…, the company is… Rs 200000000000: This company makes big announcement, plans major investment in…, the company is… A key pillar of this strategy is ITC's foray into the online food services space through a fast-scaling food-tech platform. ITC Limited, the company involved in sectors as wide-ranging as cigarettes, hotels, and beyond, has a phenomenal medium-term investment plan. The company will be investing Rs 20,000 crore to expand its manufacturing presence in various categories. Sanjiv Puri, the company's chairman, announced the company's exclusive investment during the Annual General Meeting. Sanjiv Puri stated that, as part of its growth strategy, the company has recently set up eight new manufacturing facilities in recent years. The units focused on FMCG, sustainable packaging, and value-added agri-products for export. Furthermore, he stated the focus of the company would be its 'Bharat First' strategy of building its business in India first before expanding internationally. He said, even as the company strengthens its presence in India, there are new brand launches that reinforce the company's plan to build more value into the business. While speaking at the Annual General Meeting, Sanjiv Puri, the company's chairman, said that 'Global turbulence has exposed the fragility of traditional supply chains.' 'Encouraged by the promise of the Indian economy, your company has invested in eight world-class manufacturing facilities in the recent past, with an outlay of nearly Rs 4,500 crore,' Puri informed shareholders at the company's Annual General Meeting held virtually. 'As we continue to scale new horizons, ITC plans to invest Rs 20,000 crore across businesses in the medium term,' Puri said, without providing further details. He had earlier announced this investment plan during the 2024 AGM speech. The investment could span in areas such as FMCG, sustainable packaging and export-oriented value-added agricultural products. As we continue to scale new horizons. While he did not provide a specific timeline for the proposed capex, Puri said the investment will be directed toward areas aligned with the company's 'ITC Next' strategy, which seeks to build a future-ready portfolio through both organic and inorganic expansion. He said the company has built 40 state-of-the-art manufacturing assets, enriching ITC's robust ecosystem of 250 dedicated factories and 7,500 MSMEs. 'Across your company's businesses, over 90 per cent of value-addition takes place in the country, enlarging ITC's contribution to the economy,' he noted. A key pillar of this strategy is ITC's foray into the online food services space through a fast-scaling food-tech platform. 'A new vector of growth envisioned in the ITC Next strategy is your company's Food-Tech business, which leverages your company's strengths in foods, hotels and digital technologies to tap into the fast-growing online food services segment,' Puri said. The business has already scaled up to 60 cloud kitchens across five cities under four brands — ITC Master Chef Creations, Aashirvaad Soul Creations, Sunfeast Baked Creations, and Sansho by ITC Master Chef. 'This business has registered a CAGR of 108% in the 3 years since inception, setting new benchmarks in culinary innovation and tech-enabled operations, gaining increasing consumer franchise,' he said, adding that the platform is now being progressively introduced across the country. On ITC's global outlook, Puri reiterated that its global ambitions are anchored in a strong domestic foundation. 'It is our firm belief that Indian brands must adorn the global stage and towards that, establish an enduring legacy in Bharat first, before making an impact overseas,' he said. ITC's FMCG portfolio currently represents an annual consumer spend of over Rs 34,000 crore and reaches more than 260 million households across India, with a growing presence in over 70 international markets. 'The growing consumer patronage and trust over the years for your company's products emboldens our aspiration to expand our FMCG portfolio with the overarching ambition to serve domestic and global consumers with these world-class home-grown brands of impeccable quality,' Puri said. The company launched over 100 new products last year across categories such as health and nutrition, hygiene, naturals, convenience and on-the-go, while continuing to build on mega brands and pursue value-accretive acquisitions like 24 Mantra Organic, Prasuma, Yoga Bar and Mother Sparsh. Responding to shareholder queries, Puri said the company had introduced over 300 new products in the past three years, highlighting innovation as a continuing priority to meet dynamic consumer preferences. On the performance of the paperboards and packaging business, Puri acknowledged that it remains a 'cyclical industry' currently facing headwinds due to 'dumping of cheap imports and a surge in wood prices'. He added that the industry has sought 'safeguard measures' from authorities to address structural challenges. India's $50 billion IPO wave to challenge market valuations: ICICI Pru's Gautam Sinha Roy
Agencies We note that the market rally in the last three years has been very broad-based, with most sectors participating. Going forward, we believe that we will have to be more selective. India's primary market is gearing up for a massive fundraising spree, with over $50 billion worth of IPOs expected to hit Dalal Street over the next 12–18 wave of equity supply, driven by both private equity exits and fresh fundraising by Indian corporates, is likely to test the market's appetite and to Gautam Sinha Roy, Fund Manager at ICICI Prudential Mutual Fund, while the surge in IPOs signals confidence in India's economic story, it also raises questions about valuation sustainability and the market's ability to absorb this scale of issuance without disrupting ongoing bullish trends. Roy believes that investor selectivity and earnings delivery will be key as this flood of new paper hits the market. Edited Excerpts – Q) The second half of 2025 started on a volatile note. How are you looking at the markets? One of the reasons could be FIIs selling, which continues in July. A) Markets have seen some volatility in the last year due to a transient domestic slowdown and more importantly global uncertainties (tariffs, geopolitical conflicts).Yet the medium-to-long term outlook remains positive due to stable macro conditions, economic recovery from the transient slowdown; augmented by strong retail U.S. data has sparked expectations of US Federal Reserve cutting the interest rate in early 2026. Foreign Institutional Investors (FIIs) selling indicates caution and a shift to other emerging markets. Significant equity supply from promoters and private equity firms ($20bn+ FYTD, after $60bn in FY25) has reigned the market in a tight band. Further upside shall be limited by increasing valuations amidst continued supply of stock from promoters and private equity. Q) IPOs have picked up recently, but EY report highlighted that Indian IPO activity in the first half of 2025 recorded 108 deals raising US$4.6b, demonstrating market resilience despite a 30% decline in transactions. A) IPOs and other secondary market offerings continue to be strong, having raised over ~$20 bn so far in FY26, with a strong pipeline of companies across diverse sectors such as financials, tech and renewables seeking to raise over ~$50 bn through the coming retail inflows are helping absorb this supply which has led to heightened activity in both the primary and secondary markets. We expect this phenomenon to continue, restricting strong upsides to market levels. Q) What is the initial sense you are picking up from the June quarter results, which have started to come out? A) Overall, the Q1-FY26 earnings season has shown positive traction, with an over 10% year-over-year growth in aggregate earnings so far, meeting two largest private banks and the oil & gas major have delivered healthy double-digit earnings growth, whereas large IT service companies' earnings continue to be muted as expected. Several sectors such as Cement, Metals, Hospitality, Retail, Hospitals and Speciality Chemicals are also expected to deliver good earnings growth. Q) Is the current equity market rally largely liquidity-driven, or are there sufficient earnings fundamentals to back the optimism? A) It's a combination of both. The current equity rally is supported by strong domestic liquidity, with retail inflows at record highs. The governments spend on infrastructure, social support and tax incentives are supporting growth. The earnings trajectory, after seeing a dip last year, is showing some strength again. The RBI's pro-growth stance should drive credit led growth later this year. India Inc's balance sheet continues to be healthy. Continued earnings recovery in H2-FY26 will be necessary for the markets to remain buoyant. Q) How is the corporate bond market shaping up here in India? A) The Indian corporate bond market has seen strong growth, reaching record annual issuances of ₹9.5 trillion and growing at 13% CAGR over two years. This was driven by a 100-bps rate cut which was transmitted faster than in most borrowing was for working capital, the market is expected to remain active due to rising private capital expenditures, strong interest in REITs, InvITs and asset monetization, demand for lower-rated papers and the RBI's accommodative stance. Q) Where are the pockets of opportunities coming from? A) We note that the market rally in the last three years has been very broad-based, with most sectors participating. Going forward, we believe that we will have to be more of opportunity are emerging in select sectors and themes despite broader market concerns. Large financials offer good value with improving growth prospects. Discretionary remains a key overweight, with expectations of a consumption revival in H2-FY26 driven by monetary easing, a favourable base and possible tax cuts. Healthcare is another area of opportunity, with strong growth visibility across hospitals and pharma companies. Within Industrials, specific plays like aviation and electronics manufacturing offer structural long-term growth, driven by rising affluence, localization and policy support. Q) How should one play the small & midcap space? A) Small and midcaps have outperformed, but valuations continue to be demanding, making a selective, fundamentals-driven approach essential. The focus should be on earnings visibility, cash flows, management quality while avoiding overhyped IPOs that lack fundamental of the small & midcap companies are prone to be driven by narratives alone. We evaluate companies more on a bottom-up approach, to assess their business strengths and prefer companies with strong fundamentals, healthy balance sheets and leadership in emerging and scalable spaces, available at fair the mid/small cap segment, we currently find opportunities in select financiers, consumer durables, affordable housing financiers, mid-sized renewable power producers, healthcare, hospitality, mid-sized internet and IT companies.
