Pakistan Hockey Threatening To Relocate Upcoming Asia Cup If Visas Aren't Granted To Players

News1831-05-2025
The Pakistan Hockey Federation (PHF) has announced plans to request the relocation of the upcoming Asia Cup from India if visas for its national team are not guaranteed.
The continental tournament is set to take place in India between late August and early September, with the winner securing a direct qualification spot for next year's World Cup in Europe.
A PHF spokesperson stated that the federation would consider participating in the tournament only if the Asian Hockey Federation and local organizers provide written assurance of visa issuance.
'Despite the strained relations between both countries, if visas are guaranteed, we will approach our government for clearance to play in India," he said.
'Whatever directions are given by our government, we will follow them, but Pakistan's policy has always been to keep sports and politics separate."
These comments come amidst heightened political tensions between the two nations, which nearly escalated into a full-scale conflict earlier this month.
The PHF also expressed concerns regarding player security, emphasizing that it is the host nation's responsibility to ensure the safety of all participating teams.

Chandigarh Cong says no to India-Pakistan cricket matches

Times News Network Chandigarh: Chandigarh Congress on Sunday demanded that the central government not allow India-Pakistan cricket matches during the Asia Cup tournament at a neutral venue. The Congress said that people were upset with the agreement to resume cricket ties with Pakistan. "On the one hand, Operation Sindoor , initiated to teach Pakistan a lesson for its acts of terror, was not called off. On the other hand, the cricket boards of both countries decided to foster friendly sporting relations with each other. In such circumstances, India cannot play cricket matches with Pakistan. A huge amount of money invested by Indian sponsors will go to the coffers of the bankrupt Pakistani Cricket Board, which could be used to perpetrate further terror attacks in India," Congress said. England vs Spain: UEFA Women's Euro 2025 prize money - How much prize money will winners take home

The UEFA Women's Euro 2025 final between England and Spain will take place in Basel, Switzerland's St. Jakob-Park on Sunday. (Photo by Miguel MEDINA / AFP)(AFP) The Lionesses lost 2-1 in Sydney in the 2023 Women's World Cup final, which is being replayed here. It also mimics the men's European Championship final from the previous year, in which Spain won 2-1. Sarina Wiegman's team is attempting to become just the second country in history to secure back-to-back Euros titles after making it to three consecutive major finals. They are viewed as the underdogs versus La Roja, who have grown to be a formidable force in the women's game. The winning team will also receive a sizable portion of a record-breaking amount of prize money this year. Also Read: US-owned Irish soccer club Drogheda barred from Conference League by UEFA ownership rules What we know about Women's Euro 2025 prize money The incredible €41 million prize money for this year's Women's Euros is five times greater than the €8 million awarded in 2017 and more than double the €16 million awarded in 2022. About 70% of the entire 2025 budget is allocated to the fixed €1.8 million participation fee for each team taking part in the event, which is three times the amount of money allocated in 2022. The final 30% goes toward rewards for performance, with teams getting €50,000 for a draw and €100,000 for a win in the group stages. As the knockout stages progress, the amounts rise incrementally, reaching €1.75 million for each finalist. The 2025 tournament's club benefits package broke the previous record, rising from €4.5 million in 2022 to €9 million in 2025, making it the biggest of its kind in women's football. How much will Euro 2025 winners take home? The final winners will have access to a maximum reward money of €5.1 million, more than twice the €2 million jackpot that was potentially awarded in 2022. If Spain wins the final on Sunday, they will receive this amount because they have won both of their elimination matches and all three of their group games. Given that they lost to France in their opening match, England would receive a little less.

India vs Pakistan: Sourav Ganguly is 'okay' with the clash in Asia cup 2025, says...

Sourav Ganguly. (PIC - X) Former India captain Sourav Ganguly on Sunday said he has no issues with India being placed in the same group as Pakistan in the upcoming Asia Cup, asserting that while terrorism must end, sport must continue. As per the schedule, arch-rivals India and Pakistan are clubbed in Group A and are set to face off at the Dubai International Stadium on September 14. 'I'm okay with the schedule. Sport must continue. What happened in Pahalgam should never happen, but we can't let that stop the game. Terrorism must end. India has taken a firm stand against it, it's in the past now. Sport must go on,' Ganguly told PTI. The T20 tournament will be held in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) from September 9 to 28. India will begin their campaign against UAE on September 10 and are expected to play all their matches in Dubai. India and Pakistan could also meet again in the Super Four stage on September 21. Group A comprises India, Pakistan, UAE and Oman, while Group B includes Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, Afghanistan and Hong Kong. The Asian Cricket Council (ACC) will allow 17-member squads for the 19-match tournament, with matches scheduled in Dubai and Abu Dhabi. While the BCCI is the official host, the tournament is being held in the UAE as India and Pakistan have agreed to play only at neutral venues till 2027 due to ongoing cross-border tensions. The two countries had come close to the brink of war following the Pahalgam attack, to which India responded with Operation Sindoor.
