Lightning's Jon Cooper Keeps Canada's 4 Nations Face-Off Coaching Staff Intact For 2026 Olympics
Canada and Cooper went on to win the event, defeating Team USA in the finals in overtime thanks to a goal by Connor McDavid. At the 4 Nations, Canada had a great blend of skill and grit, with each player buying into Cooper's philosophies.
Joining Cooper on his staff were Rick Tocchet, Bruce Cassidy, Pete DeBoer and Misha Donskov as assistant coaches, who will all return for the Milan-Cortina Olympics. Goaltending consultant David Alexander, director of performance analysis James Emery and video co-ordinator Elliott Mondou round out the staff.
"After a successful 4 Nations Face-Off, I am excited to welcome Bruce, Peter, Rick, Misha, David, James and Elliott back to Canada's coaching staff for 2026 Olympic Winter Games, as this is a highly skilled group of coaches that bring impressive resumés to our staff," Cooper said in a release.
"This group of coaches will provide consistency and a winning pedigree to our team, and I know our players will greatly benefit from this world-class coaching staff."
The previously announced management staff feature GM Doug Armstrong, assistant GMs Julien BriseBois, Jim Nill and Don Sweeney and director of player personnel Kyle Dubas.
The first six players named to Team Canada in June are Connor McDavid, Sidney Crosby, Nathan MacKinnon, Sam Reinhart, Cale Makar and Lightning forward Brayden Point. Anthony Cirelli and Brandon Hagel featured on Canada's rosters at the 4 Nations Face-Off and are expected to make the Olympic roster.

Blue Jays linked to trading for $2 million utility player
The Toronto Blue Jays are atop the AL East and will be buyers ahead of the July 31 Major League Baseball trade deadline. The Blue Jays have a couple of needs, as Toronto will look to add a starter and bullpen help, but have also been linked to adding a bat. Blue Jays analyst Matthew Spagnuolo of BlueJaysNation links Toronto to acquiring veteran utility player Amed Rosario from the Washington Nationals. 'Amed Rosario may not be the flashiest name on the market, but he brings valuable versatility and experience,' Spganuolo wrote. 'Once a highly regarded prospect and a key part of the Francisco Lindor trade between the Mets and Guardians in 2020, Rosario has since bounced around the league. Now, with the Nationals—his fifth team in three seasons—Rosario has found some stability… Rosario won't change the game on his own, but his ability to play multiple infield positions makes him a great bench option.'His production could provide insurance while players return from injury and contribute in key late-game scenarios,' Spagnuolo added. 'The Nationals could package Rosario in a deal — potentially with a reliever like Brendon Finnegan or right-hander Michael Soroka — to address Toronto's bullpen depth as well.' Rosario is earning $2 million this season and is a pending free agent, so the cost to acquire him wouldn't be too high. He would be a bench bat who can play all over the field and give Blue Jays' manager John Schneider some more options while constructing his lineup. Rosario is hitting .273 with 5 home runs and 17 RBIs. He can play second base, shortstop, and the outfield. Toronto is set to open a pivotal three-game series at home against the New York Yankees on July 21. More MLB:

Bomb-sniffing NYPD K-9s, handlers honored at French consulate for beefing up Paris Olympics security
It's nothing short of a grand prix. Four NYPD officers and their bomb-sniffing canine partners were honored for their service safeguarding the Paris Olympics at a ceremony at the French consulate in Manhattan Monday afternoon. Police Officers Rafael De La Cruz and Michael Fenimore and Detectives Nick Valez and Andrew Barron — and their hero dogs Davie, Gunner, Rico and Vito — received distinctive service awards at the Upper East Side delegation commemorating their service protecting last summer's international games. 'The challenges were enormous in Paris last summer to ensure the safety of 15,000 athletes, 45,000 volunteers, and overall, 11 million spectators,' Consul General Céderik Fouriscot said to the officers. 'We take the odor and tie it to a toy, like a ball, and it's just repetition. 'He was a perfectly healthy German Shepherd. Got blood cancer and was gone in three months. It's been brutal. He was my buddy for six years. He was the greatest dog. He was my life,' Fenimore said. 4 The NYPD officers and their dogs are specially trained to locate bombs. Share best practices and this is done on a daily basis,' Detective Nicolas Gouzien, the NYPD's liaison to Paris and Monaco said. 'This is a great inflection point in our relationship between NYPD and French law enforcement. This was an opportunity to showcase specialty capabilities that the NYPD has and the whole world was watching our canines protect the games in an incredibly complex threat environment,' Deputy Commissioner Rebecca Weiner said. 'It was a tremendous honor and opportunity for the NYPD.'
