Senior Hamas Official Ghazi Hamad: October 7 Led to International Recognition of a Palestinian State and Proved Defeating Israel Is Not That Difficult; We Will Never Surrender Our Weapons

Ghazi Hamad, a member of Hamas's political bureau, said in an August 2, 2025 interview on Al-Jazeera Network (Qatar) that international recognition of a Palestinian state is an outcome of the October 7 attack. He said that Palestinian weapons are central to the Palestinian cause, and all Palestinians, not just Hamas, have been raised with this mindset. Surrendering Hamas's weapons, he said, would mean the end of the Palestinian cause, adding: 'Israel can dream we will surrender our weapons to it.' Hamad claimed that Palestinians are not doing anything illegal, are not terrorists, and are not using terrorist methods. He said that the countries now recognizing a Palestinian state had not dared to do so before October 7, but the attack forced the world to open its eyes to the Palestinian cause. He added that another outcome of October 7 is that the 'mask has fallen from Israel's face,' and that the world is now acting against Israel, including rallies in the U.S., Britain, France, and Germany that describe Israeli actions as genocide. Hamad stated that October 7 proved that defeating Israel is not as difficult as previously believed.

After global recognition: Iran's IRGC rejects two-state solution

Shafaq News – Tehran Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) on Saturday dismissed the two-state solution as a 'devilish conspiracy,' reaffirming its rejection of any proposal recognizing Israel's legitimacy. The concept envisions a sovereign Palestinian state established alongside Israel, based on pre-1967 borders with East Jerusalem as its capital—an idea backed by much of the international and Arabic communities. In its statement, the IRGC marked the anniversary of Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh's assassination in Tehran, blaming Israel and vowing that 'hidden capacities' within the Axis of Resistance (a coalition of Iran-backed armed groups) would ensure the eventual collapse of the 'Zionist regime.' The group also praised the October 7 Al-Aqsa Flood operation as a lasting model for armed resistance and quoted Hamas's pledge to 'never ever recognize Israel.' Global momentum behind a negotiated two-state plan has grown in recent days. Over 125 countries endorsed the 'New York Declaration,' a Saudi-French initiative calling for a phased roadmap to Palestinian statehood alongside Israeli security guarantees. It outlines a ceasefire, Israeli withdrawal from Gaza, and the transfer of governance to the Palestinian Authority. Support for the plan has come from major Western powers, including British Prime Minister Keir Starmer, French President Emmanuel Macron, and German Chancellor Olaf Scholz, who have all urged a diplomatic resolution, while emphasizing the importance of "safeguarding Israeli interests." Although Hamas maintains its opposition to Israel's existence, some Palestinian factions have hinted at a willingness to accept a state within the 1967 borders. The Palestinian Authority, led by Mahmoud Abbas, continues to push for a two-state framework rooted in UN resolutions. Israeli officials, however, have rejected the latest proposal outright, with Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and his coalition arguing that Palestinian statehood "threatens national security" and that any solution must exclude groups "unwilling to disarm or recognize Israel."

No State, No Surrender: Hamas rejected Witkoff's statement about disarmament

Shafaq News – Gaza Hamas declared on Saturday that it will not surrender its weapons unless an independent and fully sovereign Palestinian state with Jerusalem as its capital is established. 'The resistance and its weapons are a national and legal entitlement as long as the occupation continues, as recognized by international conventions and norms. They cannot be relinquished except through the full restoration of our national rights," Hamas stated. The group also dismissed US Special Envoy Steve Witkoff's recent comments suggesting Hamas was open to disarmament, calling them 'false and misleading.' Hamas's declaration came in direct response to the 'New York Declaration,' issued days earlier at a United Nations conference and backed by Saudi Arabia, Egypt, Qatar, France, and the Arab League. The declaration called on Hamas to hand its weapons to the Palestinian Authority as part of a regional framework for a ceasefire and eventual Palestinian statehood. Hamas rejected the demand outright, arguing that surrendering its weapons would strip Palestinians of their only means of resisting Israeli occupation. The group also launched a fierce attack on the United States and its envoy, describing Witkoff's recent visit to a Gaza aid distribution center as 'a pre-planned theatrical stunt aimed at misleading public opinion and whitewashing the occupation.' It accused the Trump administration of complicity in what it called 'the crime of starvation and genocide,' and denounced the Israeli-administered Gaza Humanitarian Foundation as 'an inhumane project created to complete the cycle of killing and annihilation.'
