First Egyptian Woman Appointed VP of African Squash Federation

Amna Eltarabolsy, President of the Egyptian Squash Federation and a former world-ranked champion, has been appointed Vice President of the African Squash Federation, becoming the first Egyptian woman in history to hold the position.
Eltarabolsy's career began as a professional athlete, reaching a global ranking of No. 41 before retiring in 2008. Today, she stands at the helm of Egyptian squash's administrative and media landscape, as the first female president of the national federation, but also as the presenter of Al-Abtal, Egypt's first television programme dedicated to squash and its champions.
Eltarabolsy currently serves as Secretary of Sports for Alexandria Governorate under the Mostaqbal Watan (Nation's Future) Party.
Her election to the African federation comes at a pivotal time. As squash prepares to make its Olympic debut at the Los Angeles 2028 Games, the continent is focused on elevating talent, infrastructure, and international competitiveness.

Sudan, two-time participants in CHAN (2011 and 2018), are drawn in a daunting group alongside defending champions Senegal, continental giants Nigeria, and Congo Brazzaville. Appiah, who guided Ghana at the 2014 World Cup and now leads Sudan's football revival amid the backdrop of a civil strife, will be hoping his local stars can rise to the challenge and exceed past achievements—most notably their third-place finish on home soil in 2011. The announcement of the squad came shortly after the conclusion of the Sudan Premier League and Super Cup. The national team is expected to assemble immediately and will travel to Zanzibar on July 30 for their final preparations before CHAN 2024 kicks off on August 2. Appiah's selection reflects a balance between experience and form. Al-Merriekh Khartoum, the country's other powerhouse, has also contributed a fair number of key players, including goalkeeper Ahmed Al-Fateh and midfielder Mohamed Al-Rasheed. Hay Al-Wadi Nyala and Al-Amal Atbara also have one representative each. The Ghanaian coach will be looking to instil tactical discipline and belief into his squad, with hopes of a deep tournament run. Given the strength of Group D opponents, Sudan will need to be at their best from the first whistle. Swimming: McIntosh romps to world 400m freestyle gold, Ledecky third - Omni sports
Canadian swimming sensation Summer McIntosh obliterated her rivals to win the world 400m women's freestyle gold on Sunday, with American great Katie Ledecky third. The 18-year-old McIntosh romped home in 3min 56.26sec, nearly two seconds clear of China's Li Bingjie, who was followed by Ledecky in bronze. It was the world record holder's first world title in the event as she pursues five individual golds in Singapore. On the opening night of the meet, McIntosh and Ledecky, 28, renewed their rivalry from the Paris Olympics last summer. They will also meet in the 800m freestyle, billed as the most eagerly anticipated race of the championships. McIntosh took the lead early on and never looked back to demolish the rest of the field, pulling increasingly clear as the race progressed. McIntosh came to Singapore in red-hot form. She smashed the 400m freestyle world record at the Canadian trials in 3:54.18 in June. The three-time Olympic gold medallist sliced more than a second off the previous world record of 3:55.38 set by Australian Ariarne Titmus at the 2023 world championships. Olympic champion Titmus is not in Singapore because she is taking a season off before she dives back in to prepare for the 2028 Los Angeles Games. McIntosh won gold in the 200m butterfly, 200m medley and 400m medley at the Paris Olympics. She took silver in the 400m free. The McIntosh family's passion for sport runs deep: their mother Jill competed in the 1984 Los Angeles Olympics and older sister Brooke is a top pairs figure skater.
