Thursday's briefing: Jude undergoes op as Lionesses prepare for Euros last eight
Parte médico de Bellingham.

Real Madrid and England midfielder Bellingham has undergone shoulder surgery.
It was reported in May that Bellingham would have an operation following this summer's Club World Cup and on Wednesday, Real confirmed the procedure had taken place to treat a recurring dislocation of his left shoulder.
The surgery is reportedly set to sideline him until October, but the Spanish club did not confirm any length of absence, saying only that Bellingham would now 'begin a period of rehabilitation prior to his return to recovery work'.
Bellingham is now set to miss the start of Real's LaLiga campaign and also England's World Cup qualifiers against Andorra and Serbia in September.
Lucy Bronze urged defending champions England to draw on the underdog mentality buried deep in their DNA when they kick off their Euro 2025 quarter-final with Sweden in Zurich.
'We said we're a 'new England', a new team,' said Bronze. 'And what was meant by that was, we had a lot of younger players and new players who have very different experiences of playing for England compared to the likes of myself, where we know that England used to have to dig deep all the time, always.
'Like, 2015 was the first time we beat Germany – that's insane to think of right now.
'But England in the past, it was you have to dig out performances and you are maybe the underdog, you aren't the favourite. Whereas this England team has developed and changed.'
"I hope common sense can prevail" 👀

Crystal Palace will mount a legal challenge to UEFA's decision to exclude them from next season's Europa League, with chairman Steve Parish announcing the club would appeal to CAS.
The FA Cup winners have been demoted to the Conference League owing to what Europe's governing body says is a conflict of interest regarding former director and co-owner John Textor, who also owns part of Ligue 1 side Lyon.
'We are still fighting,' Parish told the The Rest is Football podcast. 'There's an appeal process, so we go to CAS which is the court for arbitration and, you know, we're very hopeful. We think we've got great legal arguments.
'We don't think this is the right decision by any means. We know unequivocally that John didn't have decisive influence over the club.
'We know we proved that beyond all reasonable doubt because it's a fact.'
Italy win it right at the death! 😮
Cristiana Girelli heads home to send Italy through to the semi-final of the #WEuro2025 🇮🇹 pic.twitter.com/H36h4leDfp

Cristiana Girelli's 90th-minute winner sent Italy through to the semi-finals of Euro 2025 after a 2-1 victory over Norway.
Extra-time was looming after Girelli's second-half opener had been cancelled out by Norway's Ada Hegerberg, who had earlier missed a penalty.
But Italy's captain stood up when her side needed her to power home a header from Guro Reiten's cross to book their last-four spot, where they will meet either Sweden or England.
All eyes on tomorrow.

England v Italy live: Lionesses won't take the knee before Women's Euro 2025 semi-final after Jess Carter abuse
England are building up to tonight's Euro 2025 semi-final against Italy as the Lionesses look to book their place in another final after dramatically keeping their tournament defence alive. England survived a 'ridiculous' penalty shoot-out against Sweden in the quarter-finals after Sarina Wiegman 's team recovered from a nightmare start and battled from two goals down to force extra time. The Lionesses know an improvement in their performance will be required against a potentially dangerous Italy side, who are through to their first semi-final since 1997 and have nothing to lose against the holders. England are continuing to support Jess Carter after the defender revealed she has been receiving 'vile' and 'abhorrent' racist abuse since the start of the tournament. Wiegman confirmed that Carter is ready to play if required against Italy. England's players will not take the knee before tonight's semi-final and want stronger action from the FA over the abuse suffered by Carter, with some players pushing for a boycott of social media.

Martin and Panathinaikos boss Rui Vitoria have both named their squads for the two legs, with the return game in Athens pencilled in for the Wednesday next week, July 30. Rangers were given arguably the toughest draw when it took place last month. The other two teams also in the opposite side of the draw were SK Brann of Norway and Switzerland's Servette. Panathinaikos failed to qualify for the Europa League last season after they were knocked out by Ajax in the third qualifying round. They did, however, see past French side Rennes in the Conference League play-off, though, to guarantee European football for the season - before Fiorentina won 5-4 on aggregate to end their campaign in the round of 16. The prize for the winners of this tie will be a third qualifying round showdown with either Servette or Viktoria Plzen. It could be a new-look lineup for the first game at Ibrox too, with as many as SEVEN summer signings registered for the competition. SunSport has all the details ahead of the first leg in Glasgow. Danilo netted a brace against the League One outfit in the behind closed doors friendly at the weekend. But Ben Davies, Ridvan Yilmaz, Robin Propper and Rabbi Matondo have all been left OUT. Panathinaikos could be without Elton Fikay after the left-back suffered a knock in the lead up to the fixture. Three big decisions Sarina Wiegman has to make for England's Euro 2025 semifinal
England take on Italy tonight for a spot in the Euro 2025 final, as the Lionesses edge closer to defending their European Championship crown. The journey to the last-four has been very nervy, after they lost their opening game to France, finished second in their group, and staged a stunning comeback against Sweden in the quarter-finals. A shockingly bad first-half saw the Lionesses go into the break 2-0 down but a quick-fire double from Lucy Bronze and Michelle Agyemang levelled the game before Hannah Hampton's heroics helped them advance on penalties. Sarina Wiegman now has a number of difficult decisions to make before the semi-final in Geneva, including whether to drop several underperforming stars and switch up the tactics against an impressive Italy side. We take a look at what changes the Lionesses manager could make for England's huge clash tonight: Having named the same starting XI for the last three games, Wiegman is unlikely to make sweeping changes to her team, even after several disaster-classes against Sweden. The defence was error-prone with Jess Carter, Alex Greenwood and Keira Walsh enduring a torrid time, while Georgia Stanway, Ella Toone and Lauren James failed to make much of an impact. There are also question marks over the fitness of captain Leah Williamson after she injured her ankle in the last match, though the centre-back did return to training on Monday. 'Everyone is fit,' Wiegman said in her pre-match press conference. 'Leah really wants to play, she did everything to recover as good as possible, and she has. If she recovers well she can play.' If a change at the back is needed, Esme Morgan is more than capable of stepping up to the plate, while there is much clamour for Maya Le Tissier to get a run out. Wiegman prefers to use the term 'finishers' rather than 'substitutes' and those who have come off the bench this tournament have looked sharp, especially newcomer Michelle Agyemang. The 19-year-old scored the equaliser against Sweden and now has two goals in just three caps. She's raw but maybe that's what the Lionesses need right now. And of course there's Chloe Kelly, who came off the bench to score the winner in the Euro 2022 final and is still being used as an impact sub (sorry, finisher). Maybe it's time the forward is given a chance from the start. If the personnel won't change, perhaps the formation will. The 4-3-3 shape hasn't looked all that convincing, with the opposition knowing that if they can target and pressurise midfield anchor Walsh, they have a way through to goal. A switch to 3-5-2, as seen at the 2023 World Cup, may help remedy that, with an extra body at the back relieving the pressure on Walsh and the back-line. It should also allow quarter-final hero Lucy Bronze more opportunity to maraud forward and create chances for herself and others. The change would likely require sacrificing either Lauren Hemp, James or even Toone for left-wingback Niamh Charles, but it would also see England match up against Italy who notably play with a back-three formation. The penalty shootout between England and Sweden was exhaustingly nerve-wracking for supporters. For the neutral, it was utterly hilarious and not in a good way. 14 penalties taken, five found the back of the net. Some credit must be given to goalkeepers Hannah Hampton and Jennifer Falk, but it speaks to a larger trend at Euro 2025. More Trending Just 24 of the 41 spot-kicks at the tournament have been scored, a conversion rate of only 58.5 per cent. Safe to say, Wiegman needs to have scheduled some extra penalty drills in training, especially as Falk dived the right way for five of England's seven spot-kicks. And with the experienced James, Mead and Greenwood all having their efforts saved, a shake-up of the order may also be required. Alternatively, just win the game in 90 minutes and save everyone a lot of stress. Easier said than done of course… For more stories like this, check our sport page.
